To insist dd go school everyday between now and GCSE exams since school has no official study leave period?

I expect that teachers will be focused on revision and exam practise etc. My thinking is that there's still much to be done and the exams are a way off

Dd is adamant a high percentage of her cohort are now "WFH" at least 1/2 days a week.

For context, she is very high achieving (predicted 8 grade 9s) has always had 100% attendance and punctuality.

She's convinced that we're being too strict by making her go. Any MNers with recent experience??

My DD is in Y11 also high achiever - there is not the sniff of a hint of them not being expected in every day completely as usual. Either your DD's school is very unusual or she is having you on.

They are definitely all in school until mid May, she’s having you on!

If they’re meant to be there she should go. They’ll be doing exam practice and revision with them surely - there’s still a while to go until the exams

Attendance is still monitored.

At my DD school last summer they could not go prom if their attendance dropped.

DD left last summer. They were in until about 10th June or after the final 'core' exam, can't remember if it was science or English.

There’s an awful lot of coursework due in around this time of year OP, are you sure she hasn’t fallen behind with this and feels she would be more productive at home catching up? If not she is having you on.

Kids are expected in school as usual and lack of attendance will be followed up as usual.

I'm personally still teaching the syllabus so any pupil bunking off would be missing out on new content.

DS in year 11, it's business as usual for attending so she is surely trying it on!

Call the school and get clarification. My Ds had study leave around mocks I think.

My DS did his GCSEs last year. He had to go into school every day including every Saturday in year 11, in 2-3 days during half terms and early starts leading up to exams. No such thing as study leave in his school. Told us no holidays until summertime. One of the top boys comps in London.

I think you need to check - I left school more than 20 years ago - we had some study leave around this time and then was on study leave from may onwards.

I suspect she's talking rubbish. I would not have finished the syllabus for my subject by now and even subjects that have will be doing useful exam practice and revision. Most schools abandoned study leave years ago as research proved that for most children it didn't work and they were much more productive in school.

My ds still has to be in every day as normal. Plus extra revision for 45mins every day after school. You have to have 98% attendance plus attend at least 30 sessions of the extra revision in order to be able to attend prom.
Can you check with the school what is expected?

I agree. Our DS did his last year. They were in school every day right up until the exams started. Then they had specific revision ie if you had amaths exam on pm you were in maths study am, unless uou had another exam. Exam in the morning , study period the afternoon before. There were a couple of session they did not have to attend but lots did to revise.
What have the school said?

I teach year 11, with the exception of a couple of very disruptive kids who are on part time timetables they are all expected to be in. Most of them are, I’d be upset if parents were keeping them off at this stage. Once the exams start fine. I’ve not yet covered all the curriculum content.

They don't have study leave anymore. They should all be in school.

I think a lot of schools have belatedly realised that for many pupils, study leave = sitting around on their arses at home doing nothing.

Same here. She's having you on. Why not email the school and check? But I'd be confident I know the answer.

Did ours last year. They were absolutely in school and lessons every day until study leave started shortly before the first exam. There were some revision sessions during the Easter holidays. Mine was a high achiever too and highly motivated but it wouldn’t have occurred to her not to attend. I think some subjects were revising towards the end but not in March.

DS sat his GCSE’s last year. They do have study leave but not until exams started. He got 8’s and 9’s and no way would he have achieved that without all the superb revision his teachers were doing about now. I think your DC is having you on personally.

Plus, there are just so much more distractions for kids now. When I did study leave in 1991 there were only 4 tv channels and no phones/ internet so you were so bored you studied !
