To have a shower while a contractor works at our home?

Husband also at home, me fully dressed into the bathroom, lock the door, shower, coming fully dressed out of the bathroom again. DH thinks this would be very weird and make the contractor feel uncomfortable.

When I was a teenager I saw something like this on a video... 😃

I think for the people saying they've had workmen in for weeks/months at a time so just cracked in is a little different to a workman who is only in for a day or two. Op didn't say what work he was in to do but I know if I've had workmen in for a couple of days it's different to a longer project. I had someone in last week doing some joinery and he did keep popping through with questions, had I been in the shower he'd of either been waiting on me (possibly I take longer showers than average) or he'd have to knock on the bathroom door which I wouldn't love.

I've had some workmen start jobs early in the morning where I've opened the door in my dressing gown and still had to get myself ready but I would feel differently hanging about at midday not ready for the day with someone else there, similar sort of thing?

Surely, you would have just said "I'm having a shower, do you have any questions that need addressing in the next 30 mins?".

You were making yourself very available. I'm sure they could have asked their questions in one go, or at least less frequently.

I was making myself very available, I've had a few workmen make decisions I've then had to get them to undo if I've not been around. Maybe you've been luckier than I have with trades people though! I also live in an old house where no job seems as straight forward as it appears.

I never have but that’s because I wouldn’t feel comfortable. I dry myself in the bathroom but get dressed in the bedroom so would feel weird walking past him in my robe. I also always think they will have a question as soon as I go in the shower. But if your husband is there to answer anything that comes up then I don’t think it’s a problem.

See, I don't get why it's uncomfortable walking past a tradesman in a robe either. Unless your robe is tiny, surely it covers you up?

I guess that's a different issue then.
IF your tradespeople didn't have so many questions would you feel comfortable having a shower while they were working in the next room?

Is there another toilet the contractor could use if they need? If not, I'd probably wait unless I could guarantee being in and out in under five minutes.

I would always make sure to be ready for the day, including showering, before any strangers came into my house, so I can see where your DH is coming from.

Exactly the same here.why not shower first thing.like any normal person before workmen arrive.

janietreemore · 11/03/2026 07:46

Eh? Contractors are used to fact that customers live in their homes and use them to eat, chat, wee, wash etc.

A suitable compromise would be to tell the contractor you are going to shower but you will be doing so in a swimming costume. This way you get your shower but he's also aware you won't be nude.

Thats a good idea.
OP could first describe to the workmen the cut and colour of her swimsuit, say how it feels squeezing into it and how the water feels cascading over the taut spaghetti straps into the pert bustier . Then go into the bathroom and call 'I am putting it now' through the door.
That will stop them thinking about her being naked.

Dunnocantthinkofone · 11/03/2026 08:45

Your DHs logic is completely mental
If the workman is capable of imagining you undressed behind the bathroom door,I’m fairly certain his imagination will also extend to mentally undressing you
Not that he will!
