Vinted buyers that never actually buy!

I’m selling a decent backpack on Vinted. I’ve accepted five offers on it this evening and not one of the buyers has come back to actually buy it! What’s the point in even sending an offer if you don’t want to buy it?!

AIBU to message them all and tell them I’ve had other offers and if they don’t buy soon, they won’t be able to?

I had an item reserved first a buyer for 5 days last week, didn't buy, timewaster

But it's not reserved though as anyone can come along and buy it at any point? So not wasting any of your time?

I agree you need to be strategic but I do feel bad for the buyers who sell their new items extremely cheaply.

There is a certain amount of exploitation on
Vinted.

Maybe exploitation is not the right word, but I suspect there are sellers who can’t wait for a better price and just accept low offers to get some much needed cash.

The buyers aren’t selling anything. Unless you mean people buying things and reselling them?

Satsuma55 · 09/03/2026 08:39

areyoulisteningyet · 09/03/2026 08:32

My item is up for £100.

Someone may come along today and buy it for £100...
be careful though, those people whose offers you accepted may sue for breach of contract.

So? The site doesn't work differently because of 2 extra 0's

AltitudeCheck · 08/03/2026 19:54

I’ve accepted five offers on it this evening

Surely you are in breach of this hypothetical contract (x5) then?! 😂

....I imagine that four of them will be bringing a class action against the OP, who has admitted that their offers and her acceptance of those offers amount to a contract - which she knew for certain, having accepted the first one, she would not be able to fulfil.

I mean, I know it's Vinted, but it's very difficult to see how the conventions of the platform can be thought to supersede established law - as someone has already pointed out. Oh, hang on, it was the OP.

coolcahuna · 09/03/2026 08:47

I get this all the time, lots of offers is a sign it will sell soon so sit tight. Don't message any of them.

Doggymummar · 09/03/2026 08:50

I imagine they will wait for pay day

Forestgreenblue · 09/03/2026 08:51

I’m both a Vinted buyer and seller. If I’m after a particular item I will send offers to several sellers of the same item, but will then choose between based on cost and which one looks better. I wouldn’t take it personally though if a buyer doesn’t go through with a sale!

Worst is when you sell and item and you’re instantly harassed by a buyer asking when can post, need it by a certain day etc etc - I completely get that but I’m not Amazon!!! I’m a normal mum clearing stuff out!!!

Dutchhouse14 · 09/03/2026 09:53

I dont think yabu OP if someone made an offer which i accepted Id expect them to follow up.
But I admit Im completely new to vinted, Ive only very recently starting selling on there.
Not wanting to derail the thread but has anyone got any advice about pricing? Vinted seems to recommend very low prices even for good quality clothing. Ive taken their recomendation and things have been snapped up very quickly, sometimes within minutes. So Im starting to think vinted recomendations are wrong. Ie a Boden Dress cost about £100 new still in good condition , vinted says similar items sell for £6 and recommends that as the selling price. I think it is really worth the effort! But put it on for £7 and it sells within minutes.
Also has good quality skirt on for £5 and people offer £4. I mean its £1!! Just buy it. I go back and say £4.50 and they buy it. Skirt cost about £60 new and is in excellent condition, theyve got an absolute bargain.
Im sure a charity shop would have priced it higher.
On flip side DD bought a cheap cotton vest fashion top for £7 in allegedly good condition but when it arrived it had holes in it .
Also the length of time people take to collect things from ipost lockers-vinted says i need to post within 3 days but buyers dont collect for about10 days?!
Rant over, but any advice on pricing greatly received. Do people ignore vinted recomended prices and still sell item?

Ohyeahitsme · 09/03/2026 09:56

To answer some of your questions:

Liking an item will mean you get shown more of them by vinted, it helps the algorithm. So whilst an item may not be perfect, or you'd prefer to pay less, liking it gets more of them shown to you.

On vinted you can make multiple offer. Offers do not expire nor can you retract them. I've had 2 offers waiting for an answer for several months now. I no longer want the item, but can withdraw the offer. It would be awful if I was now automatically charged.

You accepted offers this evening, people are probably having dinner, doing bedtime routine etc. Not everyone is constantly on their phone or has notifications turned on.

I make many offers at once, because I don't want to have to keep refunding an item or having hierarchy of items to offer on next should one get refused. I generally buy the first one accepted.

I’m quite surprised by the number of posters saying they hate getting offers after favourite-ing an item. As a seller, that’s my standard practice! I go for fast turnover so if someone shows interest I almost always send an offer and often add a message with the day/time I’m heading to the parcel shop. I’ve always assumed this is helpful 🤷🏻‍♀️

I never had offers, it was usually just “if you buy now I can post today”. I was a bit shocked the first time I had a message as I thought liking items was anonymous, and I soon got fed up of it.

I just don’t really understand how the rules of the platform can go against long established principles of English law.

You’re taking this way too seriously,

Probably easier to sell on Facebay. Or just have a little patience.

Yeah I do that too, obviously it’s worked!

I've done it before, put multiple offers on different items and see what happens. They
might have bought a similar item from a different offer.

Verv · 09/03/2026 11:50

areyoulisteningyet · 08/03/2026 19:51

why like it if you don’t actually want to buy it?

Its the equivalent of putting something on a watchlist or bookmarking.

Edited

I had something like that this morning. They sent a message saying ‘I’m glad you like the shoes’. I only gave them a like last night. Give me a flipping chance to decide without prodding me! I definitely don’t mind offers of a discount. That’s different altogether.

Absolutely no issue with getting offers, it's the messages that are annoying/pushy/seem like desperation/ring alarm bells. The only time I'd appreciate one is if it's along the lines of 'I won't be able to post until the weekend', which might be relevant if I need something quickly (and would mean I might not buy!)

To be honest I think when you’ve got a lot listed it’s quite obvious you’re selling stuff to make money?

OP posts:
IDontHateRainbows · 09/03/2026 13:22

As a 'doing it to make money' seller, I find vinted has become insufferable with constant lowballers, non binding offers etc so I've gone back to Ebay for 90% of my sales ( only put the hard to shift stuff on vinted, at discount) and probably so have loads of other sellers, cba with the hassle there are better markets than the wild west that is vinted!

Notinmylifethyme · 09/03/2026 13:32

PolkaDotPorridge · 08/03/2026 19:50

I don’t recommend it. I deliberately hid my likes because sellers would message to ask if I want it. If I want it, I’ll buy it. If I make an offer and you then message me, I lose interest immediately.

Oooh. How do you do that?

I 'like" items to place mark, for my benefit. But the ensuing messages annoy me.

And this is why you didn’t need to worry about it! You’ve sold the item. Everyone’s happy. Those people who made might be a bit disappointed but I’m sure they’ll get over it - it’s not worth even the brain space of thinking “get stuffed”.
