Vinted buyers that never actually buy!

I’m selling a decent backpack on Vinted. I’ve accepted five offers on it this evening and not one of the buyers has come back to actually buy it! What’s the point in even sending an offer if you don’t want to buy it?!

AIBU to message them all and tell them I’ve had other offers and if they don’t buy soon, they won’t be able to?

OP posts:
PissedOffNeighbour22 · 08/03/2026 20:57

I’m regularly getting offers that aren’t then followed up for a week or two. They’re only for a few quid (today’s was £2.40) which seems daft to me. Why offer if you either can’t afford it or don’t want to actually buy it?
and don’t get me started on people who ask to reserve items that are a couple of quid 😕

Abd80 · 08/03/2026 21:02

This is how Vinted works. If you make an offer and it’s accepted you’re not obliged to buy.

How funny. I have something on Vinted and this is happening to me today for the first time. (Accepting offers but they don't pay)

I wouldn't bother messaging them though! I just think "hmmmmm" and move on.

I "heart" / "like" stuff because it helps remind me it's there for when I have the money or it's pay day. In case it's still for sale. Sometimes it gives me inspiration on payday and I can remember what I "liked" previously and go and find similar (if it's sold)

But then I'm quite poor at the mo due to redundancy and I don't have an endless amount of cash available and have to pick and choose my buying carefully.

Edited

I heart stuff sometimes to save it so I can look again later, or because I want to make the algorithm send me more stuff like it.

I don’t really like it when I then get pressurising messages from sellers saying “oh I can post tonight, I’ve got more stuff like this, please take a look” etc

Technically under contract law an offer and then acceptance of that offer forms a contract, so really it should be a commitment

Except Vinted is super clear that buyers can absolutely change their mind even after making an offer.

Have you read the T&Cs?

Evidently not as apparently this thread is full of people who like to mess sellers around on Vinted!

Come on OP, it’s just how Vinted works it’s no big deal…
people send offers, test out the waters seeing what they can get for what price. In the same way that you are by accepting 5 offers to see who coughs up first!
it’s not personal or wasting time, it’s just a selling platform 🤷🏻‍♀️

nomas · 08/03/2026 21:07

areyoulisteningyet · 08/03/2026 19:47

Offer + acceptance = contract though, consideration need not be adequate.

Vinted need to change how they do it, when you make an offer a holding charge is applied to your debit card with a final price (as displayed when you see how much it’ll cost in total) to be applied to your card when the offer is accepted. Way too many people are messing sellers around!

You’re not being messed around unless the same buyer does it to you repeatedly. I get it’s annoying, it happened to me today.

But you need to stop counting your chickens until
they've hatched and not see offers as a promise to buy.

nomas · 08/03/2026 21:08

The thing that annoys me is all the buyers questioning my pricing.

They act like I’m forcing them to buy.

No one is "messing sellers around " 😂
You are in the exact same position you were 5 seconds before you accepted their offer. Maybe they're shopping around, or maybe they haven't seen their notifications.
Chill the fuck out.

Vgbeat · 08/03/2026 21:15

By this rule though surely you have broken the law by accepting 5 offers if your belief a contract has been formed by making an offer and your acceptance. I presume tou do not have 5 different backpacks

tutugogo · 08/03/2026 21:16

This evening? Perhaps they are having dinner. I wouldn’t check back for 2-3 hours

Lastofthesummerwines · 08/03/2026 21:17

I feel like you're one of those salesmen OP you get in the shops where you haven't even shut the door and they are jumping on you asking if they can help you 🤣

Chill a bit !

I had one of these sellers, she did my absolute fucking head in. I bought the item and I literally got over 7 messages telling me the location of the item and could I go collect it coz it's at the shop (it arrived 20 mins ago) I was at work on a late and then on an early the next day and she was literally hounding me with messages.

Vinted sellers are weird!

BinNightTonight · 08/03/2026 21:19

I dont have my notifications on the vinted app (not a conscious decision, I just havent been bothered to change it) perhaps they havent checked back yet. If someone else buys it then it's their loss!

goz · 08/03/2026 19:45

There’s no commitment monetarily at offer stage, there’s no acceptance of a contract either since the buyer can’t even see the postage prices available for the item until they hit “buy now” which only happens after the offer is accepted.
And most importantly Vinted does not only operate in England.

That's not true. On Vinted you can press Buy Now and see the postage options and prices before an offer has been accepted and without any commitment to buy.

Anonomoso · 08/03/2026 21:24

How can you accept 5 offers from 5 different people when you've only got one backpack for sale and yet state your second comment as above.

Surley if that's the case and it forms a contract you need to find 4 more identical backpacks or you're in for bother.

It’s normal part of the Vinted terms, since you have such an issue with them you don’t have to use it.

It’s not a contract for that offer, there’s nothing to say those terms can’t be changed between you viewing a listing, making an offer and the seller accepting.

Reasons I favourite things: so that Vinted learns the kind of things to recommend, because I want to be reminded to go back & think about it later, because it's something I want to buy (but often then find cheaper and end up with several favourited), because I'm considering making up a bundle with a seller, because very often the seller offers a lower price when you favourite something. I often change my mind or find the item cheaper and unfavourite it minutes, hours, days or weeks later. I hate it when sellers send me messages to see if I'm actually going to buy (unless offering a lower price) and will often unfavourite/discount that buyer if they send a message, because it makes me suspicious they're desperate because they're selling a fake/something dodgy. And even if not, I don't need to be chased, if I want to buy something I will!

The first time I submitted an offer I checked Vinted rules to see if that meant a commitment. It doesn't, so now I often submit a few offers for the same item from different sellers. Whoever responds first/is cheapest gets the purchase. I hate it if any of the sellers message me to chase up.

So in my opinion don't message any of them, don't waste head space on it, just deal with things when you get a final purchase confirmed.

TwoTuesday · 08/03/2026 21:31

It is annoying, but par for the course. Not as annoying as people asking for extra measurements, "pic on pls" or asking stupid questions.
If you're really cross you can block them. Or list the thing on eBay where offers are binding?

Cparrot · 08/03/2026 21:32

It’s not the selling platform for you. Go to EBay. I always liking items.
When you accept an offer no hold is made on buyers card? Because you haven’t bought anything!
I think everyone should actually read the terms and conditions etc, as people obviously don’t!
I don’t worry or treat as sold until it actually sells!

ThatCosyDreamer · 08/03/2026 21:32

This has to be a wind up. Get a grip.

I didn't say it was a contract. I was replying to the comment that you can't see the postage prices until an offer has been accepted. You can.

youbizarrehorse · 08/03/2026 21:53

What sort of backpack is it? I might stick in an offer😃

dailydaffs · 08/03/2026 22:02

I'd maybe go back to Ebay, OP, Vinted doesn't sound like it's for you. I am always liking things to add them to my favourites so I can maybe go back and buy them another time and people do this to me too. Ditto with offers, it's just the way this particular platform works.

Whilst I agree with some of what you say and I
also favourite items, and I would never make an offer unless I was serious about buying.

I don’t think it’s suspicious of sellers to accept your offer and then check if you still intend to buy. If you are going around offering to buy things and not following through repeatedly, I would see that as nuisance behaviour and I would block you.

Offers shouldn’t be binding but they are also not a tool for you to use to be a nuisance.
