To be appalled at CONVICTED violent criminal Cheryl Cole hosting X-Factor

I am appalled that Cheryl Cole (nee Tweedy) a woman who bashed a toilet attendant and was convicted of this is to host/judge on the popular TV show "X-Factor.". My two young girls watch this. What kind of example are we setting for our children? Should we give Garry Glitter a chance to come and host a pop show aimed at a family audience? I don't think so. So why is this allowed to happen? I'm shocked. When I was young, TV presenters where cheerful charismatic people with wholesome lifestyles. My girls are exposed to people like Paris Hilton who is a famous slut and famous for nothing more than sleeping with many different men. My girls have people like Paris Hilton and Cheryl Cole as TV role models. I don't think I'm being unreasonable by saying I think it's time we stopped glorifying these kinds of people.

Read about the new X-Factor judge here and decide whether this person is an appropriate role model for our daughters.

i'd be more worried about the example you're setting by letting your daughters watch X-factor

TheFallenMadonna · 17/06/2008 15:34

I liked the "popular TV show X-Factor"

Made me think of "popular beat combo"

jessiesmummy · 17/06/2008 15:35

It was so long ago and she was much younger then. It was completely appalling and sheameful at the time but shes been punished and should be allowed to get on with career

Elk · 17/06/2008 15:43

Two questions:
Who is cheryl Cole?
and
The X-factor is still going?!

ScottishMummy · 17/06/2008 15:45

1 dont care
2 dont care

Elk · 17/06/2008 15:53

SM. Thanks what I was thinking too.

fryalot · 17/06/2008 15:55

ooh, SM, you forgot

  1. I don't care
ScottishMummy · 17/06/2008 15:55

LOL i see many more shrugs and i dont care

TinkerbellesMum · 17/06/2008 16:00

Batters, I agree, that doesn't read as the post of a worried mum. She'll write an article as though she wasn't the OP and quote people here - like bum cream only a set up!

Has anyone told the powers that be about this thread?

poppy34 · 17/06/2008 16:03

just have tinkerbellesmum... agree with various posters that why use telly people as role models and can always turn off/over.

or revert to the 70s type mentality of not watching ITV as it was full of rubbish

ScottishMummy · 17/06/2008 16:05

really do Journo's use subterfuge to generate a story. hope she correctly quotes me then

i really meant this one

oh my heart breaks that the malnourished nylon-heided popstrel has troubles.so do the rest of us, its called real life credit crisis etc

except we are not loaded and paid obscene amounts of money for doing SFA

poor wee cheryl sick of media intrusion, well go away somewhere quiet (not the ivy or London), lie low, dont belly ache to your publicist about your life

simple

poppy34 · 17/06/2008 16:08

lucyellensmum · 17/06/2008 16:14

OH MY GOOD GOD! I am more upset about another round of cheapo reality TV being hoisted upon us on a Saturday night. Don't know who cheryl cole is, don't care, don't care about the X factor, and i dont care about simon cowel.

Am i bovvered though? Do i look bothered ? I AIN'T BOVVERED

poppy34 · 17/06/2008 16:15

but scottishmummy - what would ok do for a story if it couldnt shove cheryl in every second week to talk about her heartache?

Be reasonable ....

ScottishMummy · 17/06/2008 16:17

you are of course correct poppy!she needs to butt out and make room for queen Kerry

poppy34 · 17/06/2008 16:20

thats a good point.. or jordan's holidaysnaps?

[says she who is not sitting on her sofa with latest ok with the rooney wedding photos in it )

TsarChasm · 17/06/2008 16:25

I was shocked to read that Auntie Valerie Singleton and Peter Purvis were at it like knives during the 70's. I was exposed to that y'know!

Even if I'd been told I wouldn't have had any more clue what they were on about. A mystery, like sticky backed plastic, to my 9 year old brain.

Tortington · 17/06/2008 16:25

i disagree. I can't believe that MN has come to this. An innocent poster has a very important question. This needs thought and a considered answer, shame on you.

bundle · 17/06/2008 16:25

are you sure it was Singleton?

Tortington · 17/06/2008 16:26
Grin
poppy34 · 17/06/2008 16:26

are you thinking on your answer then custardo?

poppy34 · 17/06/2008 16:26

or singleton and shep?

ScottishMummy · 17/06/2008 16:28

i always thought John and shep were bit too close, bit too lickey ifyswim
