I’ve never known anyone track their periods

I had thyroid cancer 6 years ago. Had half of it removed. Then I had the Covid jab and had a severe hemorrhagic bleed as a side effect. I ended up in hospital and on tablets to stol the bleeding afterwards.

I have ended up in early peri menopause as a combined effort from both. It’s bloody awful but mid month, I get severe ovulation pain and I know it’s that mainly from tracking my symptoms on my Garmin watch, I know my pain is from my body attempting ovulation, and end of the month I get a vague 12-24 hour period. I barely bleed anymore. I mainly use pantyliners now as there is no need for anything else

DP said it’s ‘weird’ that I am tracking my symptoms with my body and Garmin calendar. Does anyone else do this or am I indeed a bit weird?

I track mine every month.

Startrekkeruniverse · 07/03/2026 21:20

Your DP is weird.

Imaginingdragonsagain · 07/03/2026 21:20

I’ve tracked mine for the last few years.

DestinedToBeOutlived · 07/03/2026 21:21

It's weird that he thinks it's weird.

I know loads of people who track their periods. Totally normal.

Wouldn't he monitor his health if he was having any issues?

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 07/03/2026 21:21

I track both mine and DP’s.

Fluffywabbits · 07/03/2026 21:21

I also track every month OP

Honeyandwine · 07/03/2026 21:21

I track mine on clue.

Rowgtfc72 · 07/03/2026 21:21

Got the period tracker app on my phone, useful as also in perimenopause. Back in the day before mobiles i used to circle the date on a calendar with a red pen.

ThisAutumnTown · 07/03/2026 21:21

I’ve been tracking my periods for about 15 years and I know that a lot of my friends do the same.
Your DP sounds a bit thick.

MoonlightMedicine · 07/03/2026 21:21

I’ve always tracked my cycle! I’m 48 so it’s been a lot of years of tracking. Most women I know well enough to talk to about these things also track in some way.

Not at all weird.

Ineedanewsofa · 07/03/2026 21:21

I’ve tracked regularly for at least the last 15 years - was very helpful getting/avoiding getting pregnant and has been vital as evidence to stop the Drs fobbing me off over my gynae issues

Madarch · 07/03/2026 21:22

Not paying attention to what your body is doing would be weird

SkyWalrus · 07/03/2026 21:22

If women didn’t track, how would they manage fertility or period symptoms? No periods here anymore but tracked them for over thirty years. Seems completely normal behaviour.

I'm a crone now, but I tracked mine from the very beginning, to give myself an idea of when to expect them. Surely every woman does this?

popcornandpotatoes · 07/03/2026 21:22

I track and don't have anywhere close to the health issues you have had. Your dp is weird

GoldenCupsatHarvestTime · 07/03/2026 21:22

Loads of people do it… hence why there are period tracker apps with built in symptom trackers. How would your husband know what is normal for something he doesn’t experience?

I don’t track because I don’t have periods (mini pill) but most of my friends do.

ConvolutedCat · 07/03/2026 21:22

DP is an idiot

Dolphinnoises · 07/03/2026 21:23

I used to track mine (now stopped) but I don’t think I ever mentioned the fact to anyone at all. I imagine most people are the same

parietal · 07/03/2026 21:24

Of course people track. I’ve even seen it in the plot of a book (by a male author) and in a film too.

mindutopia · 07/03/2026 21:24

I used to work in digital health and development of health apps. Menstrual tracking, besides steps and heart rate, is one of the most commonly tracked aspects of health. I’m pretty sure nearly all women track theirs. We get asked constantly for our last menstrual cycle and I’m always checking my app so I can tell it to some doctor or nurse. I don’t track symptoms though as don’t really have any (no cramps, mood changes). I now get my period about every 80 days and it’s been helpful to see the pattern in the change over the past few years.

GoldenCupsatHarvestTime · 07/03/2026 21:24

Also the first ever recorded calendar - the Ishango notched bone - is 20,000 years old and is believed to be a period tracker.

Blueuggboots · 07/03/2026 21:25

I’ve tracked mine for years. Your husband is weird!!

CheeseWisely · 07/03/2026 21:25

I’ve tracked for about 10 years, and that’s without any related health issues. At one point it was just to figure out in advance when I’d likely be on (because it’s a pain in the arse when it coincides with a holiday), then because we were TTC, now because I’m approaching peri-menopause. Your DP is the weird one. If it wasn’t a normal thing why would there be myriad tracking apps to choose from?

MovedlikeHarlowinMonteCarlo · 07/03/2026 21:25

Is your DP male or female?

Koalaslippers · 07/03/2026 21:25

I've always tracked, started by putting a dot on my calendar now use my fitness app.
