I’ve never known anyone track their periods

I had thyroid cancer 6 years ago. Had half of it removed. Then I had the Covid jab and had a severe hemorrhagic bleed as a side effect. I ended up in hospital and on tablets to stol the bleeding afterwards.

I have ended up in early peri menopause as a combined effort from both. It’s bloody awful but mid month, I get severe ovulation pain and I know it’s that mainly from tracking my symptoms on my Garmin watch, I know my pain is from my body attempting ovulation, and end of the month I get a vague 12-24 hour period. I barely bleed anymore. I mainly use pantyliners now as there is no need for anything else

DP said it’s ‘weird’ that I am tracking my symptoms with my body and Garmin calendar. Does anyone else do this or am I indeed a bit weird?

Tell the twerp in your life to mind his own business.
All the women I know track their cycle. For me it was so I could avoid doing certain activities when I knew I would be below par.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/03/2026 21:38

Not weird. Smart. Your body. Having data will help you show your GP/Specialist potential issues. I keep notes for my mum (cancer, Crohn's) and my kids. It's proactive. In difficult situations it's hard to recall things when asked by med professionals.

Oh good, a man has arrived to tell a woman she is "weird" for tracking her own health 🙄

Anyway, OP, slightly off-topic but - have you considered a Mirena coil? It totally stopped my periods and all associated pain.

I can’t have the Mirena coil due to previous depression in my teens. Hormonal medication is not recommended for me at all - in fact I tried HRT at the beginning of my symptoms but it didn’t agree. I tried the copper coil years ago but that didn’t agree either. My only other option would be hysterectomy but I’m too scared to do that - feels too severe of an operation tbh

Can you imagine if men had periods. Not only would they be tracking, they'd be boasting about flow! 😄

But the Mirena is localised progestin. Very different from taking HRT.

I've tracked them for the 23 years I've been having them. I even know that I started my first one on 28.11.02. Now who's weird? 😂

First, I made records in a paper diary, then on my brick phone, before finally moving on to logging them in the Fitbit app several years ago, and I am still doing that today.

I don't feel right if I don't do it. How else would I know if something was off?

Ridiculous comments from your partner. I'm assuming it's a man.

Got the period tracker app on my phone, useful as also in perimenopause. Back in the day before mobiles i used to circle the date on a calendar with a red pen.

Mine was a red tick on the calendar 😂 I track it now because I think I'm in peri and they're basically all over the shop😅

Absolute wankers aren’t they!!! Honestly - if I had my time again I wish I’d gone for full on celibacy. Can you imagine just ordering a takeaway and jumping in the bath on a Saturday night instead of listening to their bollocks?!

What is weird is him trying to shame/ridicule you for trying to understand your body? How immature to say that even if you thought that. I track mine and its vastly improved my life. He thinks its ridiculous because of the ignorance around women's health which we are all suffering from. So he needs to educate himself.

Cyclebabble · 07/03/2026 21:43

Yes I track closely and have done for most of my adult life. He sounds a bit weird, has he not had much contact with women generally?

I can track mine to just after my 12th birthday in 1995. And at the time the Bodyform advert was all over the adverts. My Mum ran around the house singing the bodyform theme tune the day I started. I mean - is there anything more mentally damaging than that?!

A huge percentage of women are on the pill and have been since they were teenagers. There is no need to track if you are because your period always arrives the same number of days after the last pill in the pack, or not at all if you ring packs together.

That's not a cycle then, is it. Of course if you're on the pill you don't need to track.

Back in the olden days when we used to have a physical diary I used to track mine and mark it in there.

I imagine if his dick spouted blood 5-7 days every month he’d want a vague idea of when to expect it too 🤷🏻‍♀️

He’s divorced!!! Was with his ex for almost 20 years and I believe she had a number of gynae issues. Why this is a new ‘weird’ thing is beyond me!!! His ex wife was a bit weird too though tbh - maybe she wasn’t as vocal about her cycle

I’ve always tracked, ever since I started aged 9.5 years old! Used to circle my calendar, now I use Flo.

OneTipsyDreamer · 07/03/2026 21:46

Everyone I know tracks their period. Your husband is weird

Jk987 · 07/03/2026 21:48

Are you his first girlfriend?

Keepingthingsinteresting · 07/03/2026 21:48

I think all women track to some extent (how else do you know you aren’t pregnant and not to wear the light coloured clothes), tech has just made it electronic- I still use the good old kitchen calendar though!

thisisajoke22 · 07/03/2026 21:49

I've tracked my period and when I'm ovulating for over 10 years. Don't fancy getting pregnant by accident. I think its weird to not track your period. All of my friends track theirs too

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 07/03/2026 21:51

Perhaps it was 90s sex ed, but we were told to track- by putting a little star in our (paper) diaries on day 1 of period and off that you could work out your cycle.

when you are pregnant you are expected to know the date your last period started, if it’s 2-3 months on from that, how would you know the exact date unless you made a note of it?

How do you think when women say “my period is 3 days late so I’m doing a pregnancy test” know they are 3 days late unless they track?! This is what a chunk of the population does monthly for 30-45 years.

Hope you’ve put him straight and told him all the women on mn think it’s an idiotic thing for him to say.

For reference the women who have mentioned Garmin for period tracking - isn’t it amazing!!!! Complete game changer and I actually love the reminders it sends

You don’t need a Garmin watch, there are loads of free period tracking apps available.

Tell your DP he is an absolute bellend for not understanding why women may want to know when their next period may be.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 07/03/2026 21:52

All women do it. Ask your DP how he thinks women avoided pregnancy in the ‘olden’ days.
