I’ve never known anyone track their periods

I had thyroid cancer 6 years ago. Had half of it removed. Then I had the Covid jab and had a severe hemorrhagic bleed as a side effect. I ended up in hospital and on tablets to stol the bleeding afterwards.

I have ended up in early peri menopause as a combined effort from both. It’s bloody awful but mid month, I get severe ovulation pain and I know it’s that mainly from tracking my symptoms on my Garmin watch, I know my pain is from my body attempting ovulation, and end of the month I get a vague 12-24 hour period. I barely bleed anymore. I mainly use pantyliners now as there is no need for anything else

DP said it’s ‘weird’ that I am tracking my symptoms with my body and Garmin calendar. Does anyone else do this or am I indeed a bit weird?

I’ve tracked my period for many years using the same app.

Pricesandvices · 08/03/2026 09:00

Of course women track them. I popped mine on a little calendar 30 years ago.
My teen DD has an app.

Superhansrantowindsor · 08/03/2026 09:01

I have been tracking mine for 38 years. Still going ……

Mimicking · 08/03/2026 09:05

Why would your DP even have an opinion on this!? That is weird!

I track mine (when I remember). I only started tracking when I hit my 40s for various reasons.

Nannyfannybanny · 08/03/2026 09:08

No, but I'm 75 went through the menopause at 42. I had a mental note of the start date of my last period, before then. I had gynae problems, and knew when I ovulated ms pain,if I wanted to get pregnant.. I have a calendar on the wall for various appointments and a paper book diary.

Octavia64 · 08/03/2026 09:08

I do it.

Coconutter24 · 08/03/2026 09:08

Have you asked him how many women he’s spoke to about their periods or asked him if he’s asked them if they track? He probably hasn’t spoken to anyone about any of that (why would he?) so how would he know if women track or not. I think a high percentage of women track

RS1987 · 08/03/2026 09:09

I’ve tracked my periods for the last 15+ years. I don’t know of any women who don’t xx

ainsleysanob · 08/03/2026 09:11

I’ve tracked mine since I was about 21 and mine are every 29 days on the dot.

I’m not usually disparaging of men but why the fuck has he even got an opinion on it?

I either count back from the pill I am on (and might have done that before if I knew the question was coming) but I know the last few times I've been asked I've simply answered, "I don't know, many months" because I've either run packs of pills together, been breastfeeding or pregnant. The doctor has always found that an unremarkable response.

I don't think I've been scathing btw but I do think it's interesting how adamant some people are about everyone tracking. I'm fortunate that my periods are such a non-event I just do not worry about them in any way.

Being on the pill does take away the need to track because even when you do bleed on the pill it's not actually a period, so doesn't provide the health data actual periods do anyway.

HappyToSmile · 08/03/2026 09:20

Your DP knows so much about women and their cycles and tracking them....not!!!
I don't use an app, but used to mark them on a calendar. My 18 year old tracks hers!

HanG77 · 08/03/2026 10:44

I don’t track mine using an app or anything but I know when I am due so I can work around it, such as planning nothing social around the first few days due to pain, moods and migraine attacks. If men suffered what we suffered each month they’d have a giant wall chart and a whole podcast about it.

IamnotaStepfordHousewife · 08/03/2026 11:02

I track mine and most people I know track theirs as well

MsGreying · 08/03/2026 11:25

How do you know you're late if you don't know when you're due on?

LastNightMyPJsSavedMyLife · 08/03/2026 11:31

Well if you thought you were the only one Op I think you are just as daft as him.

Bumply · 08/03/2026 13:01

Post menopausal now.

used a tracking app when I still had periods.

Back in the 70s when my periods started I tracked then with a P written in my diary. Pretty sure that was standard with all my friends.-

LadyLolaRuben · 08/03/2026 13:02

He's a man.

What does he know and why does he have an opinion?

Elsvieta · 08/03/2026 20:54

I do - only in a notebook though - ever since I've been perimenopausal and cycles have gone nuts. Seems sane to me, just keeping tabs on what's happening. I reckon if other symptoms get worse and I need to ask the doctor for HRT I could show my little list will all the cycle lengths: 22, 57, 34 etc etc

Nannyfannybanny · 09/03/2026 08:15

I've just asked my 2 dds,one has coil, the other implant, neither have ever tracked..gd doesn't either.
