Finally learnt by not blindly following the USA into wars in foreign lands. Stay strong KS, we are with you.

Really not…

Most people in the UK are,

Not many want to join Trump's war.

A war in which the US apparently didn't plan for:

  • Who takes over;
  • Interceptor shortages from sustained drone retaliation;
  • How to defend US bases in the region;
  • Threats to ships in the Strait of Hormuz; and
  • How to evacuate Americans with airspace closed.

judging by the comments on here lots of posters are to blinded by their irrational hatred of Trump to realise that what happened was wholly necessary and our spineless government will be on the weong side of history with this one!

Bollocks was it necessary! Iran on Friday was weaker than it’s been in decades. Its proxies have been all but wiped out. It is a bankrupt nation with ever decreasing influence.

Yes it was a hideous regime! It has wreaked havoc and cost hundreds of thousands of lives over the past few decades but it was not in a position to launch an existential threat to either Israel or the US.

This war is totally illegal and is incredibly dangerous. The unintended consequences of this could be catastrophic. Not to mention cause huge migration of people no both from Iran and the rest of the Middle East.

Nobody is sorry to see the Iran Supreme Leader go. No one. The regime was evil beyond anything. But that does not make it ok for the US and Israel to do this without consultation. Iran was at the negotiating table for gods sake! The surrounding Middle Eastern US Allies were not in favour of this and are now bearing the brunt of Irans retaliation.

The US does not have a good track record of regime change and appropriately handling the situation in the weeks, months and years after. Look at Iraq, Libya and Afghanistan! Trump has already confirmed that the people he had intended to take over were also killed in the Strikes. There is no plan from here and that makes this situation incredibly volatile.

TLDR (genuinely didn’t read it)

I see you’re a Putin apologist.

I see you’d rather die - literally - than read facts that contradict your favoured propaganda.

You didn’t need to tell me you didn’t read it, you called me a “Putin apologist”.

I wish warmongers like you could go on the front line while the rest of us stay out if it.

I mean isn't he educated ir something?

He's a bully. He didn't get his own way so is bad mouthing Starmer on the world stage. And he's also an arsehole. I am glad the UK was not involved.

Yes and India and the EU are on the verge of running out of oil. Plus China are struggling. This will be economically catastrophic by April.

It will also push more and more countries into Russia’s arms, isolating the West even further.

  • Decision re the Gold standard which may have helped cause the great depression
  • Black and Tans

If Churchills political career had ended in the 30s we would think he was a disaster. However, because he was right about Hitler, not a coward and a good wartime leader (I understand Indians would have a very different take on that) he is remembered well.
I think he probably was one of the best politicians at the time to lead the UK through WW2. (There's a parallel universe out there where the UK capitulated to the Nazis). But he was really bad at other things. It puts the winter fuel allowance debacle in perspective.

Wasn't one of the causes of the Great Depression the implementation of punitive tariffs by Republicans?

Yeah, about that...

I’m even more of a Trump fan after the decisive action he’s taken. I’m even less of a Keir Starmer fan after his disgraceful behaviour. He had the French send a ship to defend our base whilst he was still dithering!! Yes, we’ve got one on the way now, but why the hesitation?

wtf 🤦‍♀️

You are going to need a fucking MASSIVE piece of evidence for that….

I literally provided a quote. My original source was my Granny, who remembered it happening and never forgot about it.
Here's the details:
Key Aspects of UK Policy Toward Jewish Refugees (1933–1939):

  • Stringent Visa Requirements: In April 1938, after the annexation of Austria, Britain introduced a strict visa system to curtail the influx of refugees.
  • "Asset to the UK" Test: Secret memos indicated that Britain wanted to accept Jews only if they were "eminent in science, technology, art, music etc.," rather than those likely to need support or employment.
  • Refusals at the Border: There are recorded instances, such as in March 1939, where Jews fleeing occupied territories by air who lacked the correct papers were immediately put on the next plane back to Nazi-controlled territory.
  • "Enemy Alien" Classification: With the declaration of war on September 1, 1939, all visas for refugees from Nazi-controlled areas were invalidated. German and Austrian Jews, many of whom were refugees, were automatically classified as "enemy aliens".
  • Internal Opposition: The UK government feared that high unemployment meant the country could not absorb refugees. This was exacerbated by antisemitism and pressure from the right-wing press

Services families on Cyprus aren’t at risk, they’ve been moved. Troops expect to be at risk, it’s an occupational hazard. The reality is that we don’t know what security measures are in place and nor should we, it would defeat the objective entirely if it was public knowledge.

Hmm - what we do know is that the UK possesses bugger all in the way of anti missile and anti drone capabilities.

But that is the fault of both Labour and the Tories and at least Labour have recently prioritised it as a defence spend.

There was an interesting comment some time ago by Bill Maher, who was not a tRump fan, but was invited to dinner with him and decided to go.

He said that he spoke and acted like a normal person.

My take away from that is his weird way of speaking is a persona.

maudelovesharold · 03/03/2026 22:52

Can someone enlighten me - I’ve obviously missed something? I thought one of the main pillars of Starmer’s lack of co-operation with the USA was his refusal to let US aircraft use Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford, as had been requested by the USA. After watching the news tonight if sounds like they are now being permitted to use the base on Diego Garcia, at least. What about Fairford? Has Starmer rolled over after all?

Adoptedbykitten · 03/03/2026 22:52

I like starmer and wanted him to win the election. I like that hes steady and ‘boring’( irl I believe he’s actually got a good sense of humour) I like his ordinary background and the fact that he has got to where he is on his own steam. He’s the best of what’s on offer for sure imo .

Yep, both bases (DG and Fairford)

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cqj9g11p1ezo

Keir Starmer looks to camera and stands in front of UK flags as he speaks

UK will allow US to use bases to strike Iranian missile sites, says Starmer

The prime minister says it remains the case that the UK will "not join offensive action now".

On Saturday Starmer was refusing to allow the US to use UK bases for their attack on Iran.

On Sunday, after the base in Cyprus was attacked by Iran Starmer changed his position. Now the US can use two of the UK bases but only for defensive purposes. UK military will also engage to defend our own bases and those of our Allies in the Middle East. In other words the RAF will actively be shooting down drones and missiles launches by Iran. We are not joining the US in actively attacking Iran.

Thanks @notimagain and @Ihavelostthegame I’m obviously not concentrating!

Can’t help thinking this is splitting hairs. I wish our ‘lack of co-operation’ was as unequivocal as Spain’s.
