AIBU to brag about my wonderful husband?

So today is my 40th birthday. Told my husband as we have a 2 year old i dont expect him to push the boat out like i did for his 40th (we were childless with a lot more disposable cash lol). I told him I would be happy with a card and a nice meal.

Well I have to say he has definitely gone above and beyond.

I woke up to a coffee in bed and a lazy start while he got up with our little boy and took him to nursery.

When I finally got up I was greeted with a lovely bouquet of roses, a bottle of wine, some of my favourite coffee pods, a.new dress with shoes to match (to wear tonight) and 2 beautifully written cards.

Now he's cleaning the kitchen while I relax on the sofa! He's a good egg! swoooon

LTB he’s clearly guilty of something. Must be having an affair 😂😂

joking before anyone jumps in!!

DuchessDandelion · 03/03/2026 13:59

I love hearing about the good guys :)
Happy birthday!

DingDongDenny · 03/03/2026 14:06

Happy Birthday OP, glad to hear you have a good one. My DH has never been good at presents or celebrations, but that's just not his thing.

But I've been receiving treatment for cancer over the last few months and he had been an absolute angel and couldn't have done more for me.

It's when they show they care, even if it might be done in different and sometimes unexpected ways

Ponoka7 · 03/03/2026 14:07

He's done well, especially if he's matched your energy on his 40th. It's a shame that men getting up with the children and taking them to Nursery is seen as above and beyond, though.

BauhausOfEliott · 03/03/2026 14:37

Happy birthday, OP! Sounds like you've got a lovely day ahead.

Yeah I'm a bit confused about that part as well!

Cleaning the kitchen, getting kid out to nursery and a coffee - standard in my household

BUT if he doesn't normally do those things then it's nice for OP to enjoy it on her bday.

ImpatientlyWaitingForSummer · 03/03/2026 14:45

Aw how lovely! Happy birthday, sounds like you’re having a wonderful day 🥰 it’s my 40th in a couple of months and you’ve made me excited, my partner is pretty good with birthdays too so I’m looking forward to seeing what he has in store! Enjoy the rest of your day!

WeepingAngelInTheTardis · 03/03/2026 14:45

It makes a change to hearing about shit dhs not bothering for their wifes birthdays, this is nice to see. Have a lovely day.

FortyFacedFuckers · 03/03/2026 14:46

Happy birthday!!

LocalHobo · 03/03/2026 14:47

Wonderful! Can I ask if the dress and matching shoes are what you would have chosen? I'm getting Minnie Mouse vibes from "matching" shoes🤔

Easterbunnygettingawrapping · 03/03/2026 14:50

My exh ruined my 40th. He was an exh before I was 41.
I remarried on my 44th... Always a good day guaranteed now.. He is also a good egg!!.
Happy Birthday op!!

Doteycat · 03/03/2026 14:50

Lovely.
A low bar though.
I get coffee every morning. Flowers for no reason. Cant remember the last time i cleaned the kitchen.
Seriously. Dont be fooled that this is swoonable.
Its basic.

AdoraBell · 03/03/2026 14:53

Happy birthday 🥳

beasmithwentworth · 03/03/2026 14:56

@Doteycat I don’t think what OPs DH did was basic. A new dress and shoes and all the other nice touches involve an effort that some would never make! (I’m not saying that it should be this way).

Sounds lovely OP happy birthday and have a great night.

I get coffee everyday and flowers for no reason too (although I can definitely remember the last time I cleaned the kitchen!) but it’s still extra nice on your birthday to basically have a “relax, do nothing and here are some lovely gifts” vibe!

Goldbar31 · 03/03/2026 14:59

Happy birthday!

sweetpickle2 · 03/03/2026 15:03

Agree this would be considered a low bar/every day behaviour in my house but glad you're having a nice birthday OP!

Statsquestion1 · 03/03/2026 15:07

My only advice going forward is to not give him a get out clause…so you have a 2 year old!! That’s not a reason to not celebrate a birthday. He has the same amount of time as you do!! Communicate your expectations!

happy birthday 🥳

ExtraOnions · 03/03/2026 15:09

Man behaves like a normal human, and we all celebrate.

Ok.
I guess i have a different experience.
Its basic to me and my dds.
Is it nice ? Of course.
Is it swoonable? If its that rare to be swoonable then nope, not ok

Talk about pissing on someone chips

OP didn't say he did nothing any other time but specifically did with their birthday in mind today

Lmao we split the get ups equally. As its my birthday he gave me the extra lie in.
