AIBU to brag about my wonderful husband?

CharlieUniformNovemberTango2023 · 03/03/2026 13:29

So today is my 40th birthday. Told my husband as we have a 2 year old i dont expect him to push the boat out like i did for his 40th (we were childless with a lot more disposable cash lol). I told him I would be happy with a card and a nice meal.

Well I have to say he has definitely gone above and beyond.

I woke up to a coffee in bed and a lazy start while he got up with our little boy and took him to nursery.

When I finally got up I was greeted with a lovely bouquet of roses, a bottle of wine, some of my favourite coffee pods, a.new dress with shoes to match (to wear tonight) and 2 beautifully written cards.

Now he's cleaning the kitchen while I relax on the sofa! He's a good egg! swoooon

Talk about pissing on someone chips

OP didn't say he did nothing any other time but specifically did with their birthday in mind today

Ah stop.
Telling someone raise the bar is not pissimg on her chips. How vulgar.
But i have no intention of sitting here and pretending to another woman that i think her dh is fab for doing basic shit.
Thats just so patronising and enable this omg he did something normas isnt he amazing.
Id say it to anyone. Nice. But raise your bar.

I knew this was going to be about a man doing a perfectly normal thing before I opened the thread 😂

LocalHobo · 03/03/2026 14:47

Wonderful! Can I ask if the dress and matching shoes are what you would have chosen? I'm getting Minnie Mouse vibes from "matching" shoes🤔

Lmao they are perfect. I suspect his sister helped with them though 🤣

Lovely.
A low bar though.
I get coffee every morning. Flowers for no reason. Cant remember the last time i cleaned the kitchen.
Seriously. Dont be fooled that this is swoonable.
Its basic.

Time to brag and demean the OP. But no time to wish her Happy Birthday.

Happy Birthday OP. Hope you are having a lovely day. x

CharlieUniformNovemberTango2023 · 03/03/2026 15:23

FYI ladies.... he always helps with the house work and our son. He always makes the brews. But today because its my birthday and he's made an effort despite being short on money shows he cares amd feels extra special. Ive no need to raise my bar. He's perfect for me.

Lmao we split the get ups equally. As its my birthday he gave me the extra lie in.

I was wondering if it might be this kind of set up! My partner and I have always alternated get ups with our two year old and still do it with our 8 month old and my god I know how precious that second lie in is especially when the two year old is going through the 5am wake up phase! 🤣

PS ignore the miserable responses on this thread! Why people have the inclination to post unnecessarily miserable comments I don’t know!!

WallaceinAnderland · 03/03/2026 15:24

'helps' lol

Doteycat · 03/03/2026 15:45

The post is ' aibu to brag'.
So my reply is yes. I think its a low bar.
If its good enough for you, fine. Have at it.
However if my dd said this and expected me to be impressed, id be stumped.
So yes. Its unreasonable to brag about it.

The very fact you say he ‘helps’ with the housework and your son says it all.

Raise your expectations.

Ignore the chip pissers OP.

Some MNetters despise threads giving men any kind of appreciation or praise.

Happy birthday and have a wonderful night 💐

No need to be bitter. Who pissed on your chips?

Goditsmemargaret · 03/03/2026 16:11

Good for you OP, how nice to see someone so happy in their life and marriage.

I had a similar start on our anniversary. I arrived into the kitchen and saw an absolutely gorgeous breakfast laid out, roses, a card, a love letter, a thoughtful gift and a printout of a restaurant booking.

I loved it and I love him and I think you are absolutely right to celebrate the happy moments.

LAX12 · 03/03/2026 16:14

You know what’s truly vulgar? Being unable to handle seeing another person happy without wanting to make them miserable.

It reeks of insecurity, and I strongly suspect you’re deeply unhappy.

I bet you’d combust with bitterness if you heard what my DP did for my last milestone birthday.

I don’t get flowers because they’re naff.
I don’t get coffee made in a morning because my husband is on his way to work at 5am.
I can’t remember the last time I paid for a holiday or a meal out or anything to do with my car because he does that but I did clean the kitchen last night.

See, your basic, is different to mine. Try not to piss on other people’s chips eh?

I dont do any of that stuff either. Whats your point.
Op says AIBU.
And i reckon she is.
What part of that is difficult to understand?

mumofoneAloneandwell · 03/03/2026 16:19

YABU! (JEALOUS)

Have a great birthday, op x

This made me absolutely laugh out loud.
I guarantee i wouldnt.
And i guarantee i dont have to wait for a birthday milestone or not for something decent from my dh.
Im sorry if you do and are impressed by it.
Again, raise your bar.

This gets worse.

What’s bad about a man seeking advice from his sister to make sure he gets his wife clothes that are right for her? If he doesn’t have an eye for clothes, it makes perfect sense to make the extra effort and get a second opinion. I helped my friend’s fiancé choose one of her birthday presents. He’s absolutely lovely and incredibly generous and he knows what her favourite shops are, but he’d be the first to admit that he doesn’t have a clue about women’s clothes and how different shapes and cuts of clothes work on different people.

Haha, you’re making yourself look so ridiculous. The sheer desperation of your attempts to look superior is genuinely hilarious. You’re one step away from ‘My dad’s bigger than your dad’. You cannot seriously be a grown woman 🤣
