Media pushing Starmer to war

Indigosky37 · 03/03/2026 05:32

Daily mails headline is “Keir Starmer accused of hand wringing and pearl clutching” and Kemi Badenoch saying he’s “scared”. Then a comment section full of “he’s a coward” “ he’s a chicken” “incompetent idiot” “an embarrassment”.

So are the media pushing Kier Starmer to take us to war then? Is that what they want, because if he did the headlines would be about how we don’t want a war. The man can’t win. But pushing for war and making out Kier to be weak for not doing it is worrying.

Last time a Labour PM took us into a spurious US folly in the Middle East he was called a war criminal and a million people marched against him.

And the US admitted yesterday that they only joined because Israel attacked first.

Starmer is spot in in this case. He’ll be torn to shreds because he always is, but he’s right.

Quine0nline · 03/03/2026 07:45

His stance is right, but it's disappointing that he is not doing in a firm, determined and bold way. Grey man. Makes John major look like bright beige.

He called it illegal. What else do you want him to do?!

Media doesn’t need to push Starmer to do anything. The guy has done about 78,000 u turns in less than two years already. He’s about as strong as a wet paper bag. He’ll give way even if you just look at him with a strong glare. What a pathetic excuse for a leader we have.

Okay so you believe the war is right and justified and your happy to send UK troops?

He will probably u turn in a week, like he does everything else

tutugogo · 03/03/2026 07:49

The irony is, if he had taken the opposite approach they would have criticised him for taking us to war! I for one think hes handling it well

PandoraSocks · 03/03/2026 07:51

Not so long ago the likes of the Mail and parts of MN were calling him a warmonger because he said the UK might provide peacekeepers in Ukraine. There were cries of "let him send his DC first!".

Now they are all screaming for him to involve the UK in an illegal war.

Araminta1003 · 03/03/2026 07:52

Thankfully Starmer is a lawyer and will follow international law and self defence. He is doing a good job here so far. Law and international relations are his strengths. Domestic politics seem to be his weakness and all the infighting/squabbles. This is the type of situation to ignore the noise and following international law and military and intelligence advice so it plays to his strengths.

This situation isn’t just about the US. There is also China to consider.

Yeah because when there is war raging, what you need is a lawyer. Thats why all the great statesmen of the past were lawyers and they train lawyers in military academies.

Dontgetfooledagain · 03/03/2026 07:59

There are always wars raging. One of the nice things about lawyers is that they dont try to drag us into each one - or (by and large) cause them which those brave military types and gung ho politicians do like to do.

When was this country last led by a Prime Minister who was a military veteran? What codswallop.

The Daily Mail supported the Nazi regime before WWII. It is no less far right now, and thrives on chaos and clicks. Don’t be manipulated by them.

The PM is quite right to stay rational and tread the fine line he is on, following the law and maintaining a stance in the best interests of the country. Those of you getting overexcited about going to war - go and join the military, or ask your children to. Then we’ll see how your stance changes.

Who cares how he's coming across?! He's not a celebrity for heaven's sake. Thankfully he's a sensible PM rightly refusing to drag us into an illegal war will drag on for months – or at least until the November primaries in the US, so Trump can cancel them using the excuse 'we're at war' and retain control of Congress and the Senate for the rest of his term to implement his fascist policies.

Because that's what's really underpinning this conflict.

Allowing the US to use our military bases in a far cry from boots on the ground OP. Supporting one of our longest standing allies against a mutual enemy who would very much like to see our downfall (and is something the Iranians have been begging for) is something I’m in favour of myself. But nevermind if Russia attacks us I’m sure there will be plenty other allies to have our back.

Overtheatlantic · 03/03/2026 08:11

The daily mail is NOT the media. Get your information from reputable sources. The guardian, the Financial Times, the bbc, anywhere but the dm.

SundayBells · 03/03/2026 08:12

Starmer doesn't go to war - Daily Mail headline = COWARD.

Starmer does go to war - Daily Mail headline = ANOTHER LABOUR LEADER PLUNGES COUNTRY INTO FOREIGN WAR. BRITISH SOLDIERS KILLED WHILST UK HOTELS FILLED WITH THE REAL INVASION THREATENING OUR NATION.

But Trump truly doesn't give a shit about allies – he wants to ruin NATO for his own self-serving ends. He's furious NATO is stopping him from seizing Greenland.

Imagine if Farage was PM. He'd be telling Trump to rest his troops and fire power and let ours do it for him. He's so far up Trump's arse it is frightening.

More incompetent than Liz Truss? Or Boris Johnson? Nah.

Liz Truss at least resigned quickly.Boris was pretty useless to.

Yep. But at least he's not a lawyer 🙄

IsawwhatIsaw · 03/03/2026 08:22

Further back in the 1960s Harold Wilson supported the US publicly, but refused to send troops to support them in Vietnam.
he was correct as is Starmer.

Yeh it’s not the media.

Do you think Starmer's current stance is the right approach?

Velentia · 03/03/2026 08:32

As PM Starmer should have explained to us what he was doing and why. To not support Trump is a major decision in itself. Israel being the leader of this attack is another factor that links in with our home politics. Another reason for explanation.
Will we be sending information that we have harvested from intelligence sources including GCHQ.
By not addressing the nation and putting his governments opinion to us in a concise way he is looking like a weather vane, a ditherer. This is a time to be resolute.

PoachedSmoke · 03/03/2026 08:34

I wouldn't worry OP. The man is so useless even if he does make a decision he'll change his mind the following day 😂
