What’s the most unusual name a child in your kids class at school has had?
Almost every other child I know is called Harry, Theo, Leo, Olivia….would love to hear some unusual examples of names!

Ideally they'd have a sibling called Herb.

This is a racist urban legend. There's never been a documented L-a in either the UK or the US. Next you'll he saying he knew and Orangello and Lemongello. Be more creative next time you lie.

There was a Tiberius in my child's class a few years ago

There is a Lanesra is my DD’s class - read it backwards - apparently they didn’t know what it spelled backwards till after they had given the name.

None of us are British-English born, but when I was thinking about the name, suddenly just popped into my mind and I knew that will be it (I knew 2 really nice guys with that name). So now we have Ian. It's actually and old Scottish name, meaning 'Lord is gracious.' Though I didn't know about the meaning before.

Iain as we usually spell it in Scotland isn’t unusual is it?

I have three family members called Iain/Ian

I think it is for newborn babies. It's the name of my godawful ex, so I'm pleased someone has reclaimed it for a cute baby boy.

My son has an Axl, Blaize, Hudson, Santi, Dotty, Avery, Margot and a Nannie in his class

Hudson and Margot are top 50 names! Axel (spelt like this) has been in the top 100

I've heard this story a few times. Usually the version is the dad suggested it because he's an Arsenal fan and the mum didn't realise until baby was registered.

True, popular Scottish names for young boys atm round me are more eg variations of Finlay/Findlay and Rory/Ruaridh - can’t think of a young Iain. But I know so many it is strange to think of it as unusual.

Yeah but apparently in this case neither parent realised. It’s a pretty name though.

Must be multiple Lanesra's out there. I'm surprised it hasn't showed up on the popular baby names list yet.

I have since learned that but in rural Lincolnshire it was odd at the time lol

Find my Past has quite a few births with Lanesra as a first or middle name. Nearly all in or around London, but just one in Islington, and one in Camden.

And there have been a handful of Ladasha, spelled like that, in the US over the years, but no La-a.

BeBreezyPlum · 03/03/2026 14:30

Westfacing · 02/03/2026 07:38

Are you in the UK?

No but I live in a part of the world with strong ties to traditional communities across Europe. The name 'Horse-Brass' is very popular because it is a famous British traditional artefact from Roman times at Hadrian's path.

Mine is cute, but naughty like hell! I sometimes said I wish that you would be as obedient as you are cute. He just turned 4 and is a full house :-)

I chose the name cause I absolutely love it and it suits him well. As well where I come from this is actually a very rare and special name. And I needed a name that will be pronounceable in 3 countries (mine, my husband's and UK... so... :-) )
