What’s the most unusual name a child in your kids class at school has had?
Almost every other child I know is called Harry, Theo, Leo, Olivia….would love to hear some unusual examples of names!

At our sons last school there was a Wolfgang, it suited him so much. There was also a little girl called Siren, as in Greek mythology, not a police siren.

Rosario, Antigone, Beulah, Gloria, Meredith, Delores

Jarlath, Cornelius, Ignatius, Aloysuis, Enzo, Geno, Horatio, Jolyon

My son and daughters names are in the above.

Seren isn't that unusual, it's very common in Wales. I think it's a lovely name.

Haha of course, I meant for where I live (currently not Wales although I have lived there in the past). It is lovely.

Boy - Cassius

Girl - Pippa

Both nice kids and I like both names.

There's an Orlando. I asked his dad "Shakespeare?" and he frowned and said "no, Bloom."

There's a girl called Tulane, which i think is both unusual and beautiful.

I don't know that many names from ds' 6th form classes, but there is a boy called Aubrey, which is a bit unusual.

I'm a teacher and have loads of students with unusual names. My favourite is Ysandre!

I think the oddest names in my children's school is probably my own children's names. They were born in Ireland and I named them lovely, not uncommon, irish names...then moved to London where people look at us like we have three heads if they have to spell their names.

Lifeomars · 01/03/2026 20:18

I'm on countdown to becoming a great auntie to a baby boy and the parents to be are not discussing name choices so it will be an exciting surprise, personally I love Fox but whatever they chose I am sure it will suit him. Only a few weeks to go!

Poor child! She’ll be ‘Nosy’ Parker for years….

I haven't heard that expression used since I was a child/around 20 years ago!

Revavalley · 01/03/2026 20:28

When I was a dental nurse two children from different families Velvet and Cole loved both of them. That was 30yrs ago. But neighbour nephew is Jet and it suits him as he runs like a greyhound.

Shall we just start taking the piss out of non English names now? These threads always descend into casual racism with a nice touch of classism. It does show how thick a lot of posters are, when they claim Hebrew names are made up. Or don't understand why the Black African-Americans rejected George, Charlotte etc and created their own versions.

Is anyone doing that? In DGS sclass all the kids are white British And yes there is Harry Oliver and Archie. Not sure I hear anything unusual from the names he talks about. Maybe Beatrice I suppose

Timespentwithcatsisneverwasted · 01/03/2026 20:31

Nevaeh, Chardonnay, Tallulah, Bo

I really like all the unusual names - we know a Ziggy, Orlando, Raven and quite a few Remys (boys and girls). Also some lovely Irish names for both sexes, bit tricky to spell but sound lovely. Years ago I also knew someone who had a girl called Pebble.
