Oh god what if we run out of dates !!!

they’re literally in every recipe now !

We are safe! Date season in GCC is summer so they have time to finish this off before harvest
(on a serious note, lots come from elsewhere so still safe. I think costco has US ones even)

Insidesains · 28/02/2026 16:19

Are you prone to more general anxiety @Olympeagal ?

In the UK we are very privileged to be in an extremely safe place.

Perhaps stop selfishly thinking about your own stupid inconsequential needs and spare a thought to think about the Iranian civilians, and other across the region who are having their world turned upside down.

At my grand old age of 50-something i've lived through a lot of global shenanigans and one thing i've learned is my worrying about it achieves the square root of bugger all.
I understand your concern OP as your DH is in Asia & may find getting home tricky, but honestly the best thing you can do for you is turn off the radio/tv and just carry on as normal. In the words of the prophet, this too shall pass.

Ok maybe i am panicking for no reason.
But Iran have just bombed a tourist hotel in Dubai and its these actions that i think will drsg the UK into this conflict. Kier Starmer has annoumced he will help allies in the Midfle East.
I want to pretend its not happening...but it is and seems to be escalating hourly.

You need to be very careful with your comments. Reports suggest that the hotel was hit with debris, so please stop and think before you go any further.

BlimeyOReillyO · 28/02/2026 16:20

Toilet rolls, tinned foods, vesta packet meals, cup a soups.

Pretend it’s another Covid outbreak?

Have you used your stockpiled supplies from Covid yet?

You said he's in Asia. You didn't say he wasn't in a safe place before.

Rainydaycat · 28/02/2026 16:22

I’m stockpiling balaclavas 🤔

People like this, who start threads like this… are never ever “careful with their comments”. Or indeed the detail.

I love "global shenanigans"😂. I wish newsreaders would use that: And now to the global shenanigans. In West Africa there has been...

Bollox. You said he’s in Asia.

Now story changing

GreatOliveTiger · 28/02/2026 16:23

I've still got a few weird tins in my brexit box if anyone is desperate for tinned potatoes, carrots and chickpeas.

LadyRoughDiamond · 28/02/2026 16:24

I don’t feel the need to stockpile anything, but I’m assuming that certain areas of the stock market will suffer. It will no doubt bounce back long term, but those with short term investments may need to protect their funds. If you have a share portfolio or are nearing retirement age and have a personal pension, it might be worth having a financial advisor take a look at where your investments are.

You said your partner is in Asia, not the Middle East though? Is the country he’s in connected to what’s happening in Iran/Israel? I think he’ll be safer where he is now than if he was in Iran/Israel.

AmberFawn · 28/02/2026 16:24

Jesus, your partner is thousands of miles away in Asia OP. Didn’t an Iranian elementary school just get bombed and lots of children die? You need a serious reality check.

MagpiePi · 28/02/2026 16:24

Either we’ll all be fine or else we won’t. Worrying about something you have no control over is pointless.

The last time I looked on a map, ‘Asia’ covers a huge area and is a long way from the Middle East. Your husband being in Dubai 3 weeks ago is totally irrelevant.

Nitgel · 28/02/2026 16:25

Panic buy loo rolls.

Zippidydoodah · 28/02/2026 16:25

Petrol stations are always busy on Saturdays.

About 44 million km2. Googled out of curiosity

Figmentofmyimagination · 28/02/2026 16:26

When I transited home yesterday (phew) via Dubai on Emirates, every other advert on the inflight entertainment system was for a Trump luxury hotel. Seems he has one in nearly every state - Dubai, Quatar, UAE, Bahrain etc. Certainly wouldn’t want to be staying in one of those atm.

Translatethedog · 28/02/2026 16:26

I have lots of soup due to being ‘not quite myself’ a while ago and food shopping while delirious.

janietreemore · 28/02/2026 16:26

I'm worried too OP, about us as well as people already suffering in the Middle East. Petrol prices will rocket very soon so filling up was sensible.
