Upside down pie horror show

Chockenchara · 26/02/2026 19:41

I just watched a social media video in which an old guy cooked a Frey Bentos pie. When he served it he took it out the oven and turned the tin upside down on the plate, so the pie came out pasty side down.

I mean, regardless of the general merits of a Frey Bentos pie, who serves a pie upside down.

I was aghast.

Actually, they taste nice!

I’m not questioning the pie itself. It’s common ground, surely, that FB pies are divine.

I’m talking about serving them upside down.

verging on the deranged OP. Love a FB pie but not upside down.

I think this is the worst thing I've ever read on here.

I’m sorry, I have noticed a couple of typos, including “Frey” but it’s too late to edit. I blame the raw emotion I feel about the situation.

Have you got any support for this IRL OP?

I understand. It's a heck of a shock to the system.

One guy at uni got a Frey Bentos voucher with a lovely letter from them because he'd written them a letter declaring his adoration for their magnificent pies and how they had kept him alive throughout his time at university. We weren't close at all but I think the entire course got to read that letter, he was so proud of it. I assume he'd be spitting at the idea of eating one upside-down though, that's not right.

Gasbox · 26/02/2026 20:02

Don't want to upset you further OP but I like my pies upside down <ducks for cover> I can explain why if you want?

I remember this too! It used to be advertised as how you cook and serve them. It's not like the old guy made it up.

Tempodrom · 26/02/2026 20:10

They’re meant to be served upside down. Like suet puddings - you eat the bottom first. I hadn’t seen one for years until we got one every week in our Boris food parcels during covid (isolating)

Unforgettablefire · 26/02/2026 20:10

I like mine upside too. Smash the top in and if there’s gray I like the lid to be soaked in it so it’s soft.
I thought it was just me 😀

Ifeelsickagain · 26/02/2026 20:12

I despair about the state of the nation.

ilovepixie · 26/02/2026 20:15

I had an M&S steak pudding for dinner and it was upside down!

Hatty65 · 26/02/2026 20:17

I'm old too. You have to serve them upside down. Use a can opener on the top, put in oven to cook then dump them upside down on your plate to get them out.

DH and DS love them.

Delphiniumandlupins · 26/02/2026 20:22

No. Just no. If you're too posh to eat it out of the tin, put the pastry to one side and tip out the filling before putting pastry back on top. In its rightful position.

Amodernhistory · 26/02/2026 20:25

That is how they are served 🤷‍♀️

Angry Meryl Streep GIF

This man is a stain on this good nation.

You spoon the pie out onto the plate, and then spoon the filling and tuck it underneath the pastry

His wife should ltb

IDontHateRainbows · 27/02/2026 08:58

Is this not the concept on which a steak and kidney pudding is based?

A pudding, yes.
A pie, no.

CustardySergeant · 27/02/2026 10:29

Did he have an Australian accent? Everything's upside-down in Australia. 😉

Ifeelsickagain · 27/02/2026 11:21

This has put me right off my Findus crispy pancakes

UncannyFanny · 27/02/2026 11:35

I don’t like soggy bottoms so I usually serve the pie upside down

MrsMoastyToasty · 27/02/2026 11:40

The only thing that should be served upside down is pineapple upside down pudding.

The meat pie should be served straight from the tin to save on washing up.
