To not be able to find a good horror movie

Please recommend some good horror movies! I'm not interested in anything with subtitles at this moment in time.

I am scrolling through Netflix and similar and, I have seen all of the interesting ones like The Haunting of Bly Manor etc.

Oh yes - a Jordan Peele trilogy would be a tremendous horror session. (Though I don’t quite think of Nope 😍as horror - because I didn’t want to run away from the cinema.) Get Out is fabulous. Ashamed to say I’ve never yet plucked up the courage for Us. Because I don’t actually do horror.

StormyLandCloud · 25/02/2026 19:04

The I spit on your grave movies are good and pretty jumpy, and drag me to hell

The visit, knock at the cabin, cabin in the woods, Saw films. What sort do you like? Abigail has just come to Netflix and I love that one. It’s humorous, serious and gory.

Take away will be here imminently and was wanting to watch a film myself, so Abigail it is! Thank you!

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 25/02/2026 19:12

Do you want blood/gore or more jump ones?

Agree with Midsommar - it’s in English so no subtitles.
What kind of horror do you like? Midsommar is more psychological horror than gore.

Midnight Mass. Horror with a storyline and decent acting.

On MN a few months back, someone mentioned a film.on bbc iplayer called Ghost Stories with Paul Whitehouse. I think it may have gone now, but it really scared me, particularly the warehouse part of the story.

NotAWurstToIt · 25/02/2026 19:26

30 Days of Night was one I liked and The Others also, although more spooky than horror

Ok - I’m not sure I’m actually recommending this, because it honestly traumatised me for months afterwards, but I guess that’s a mark of its achievement. The performances are frankly a bit too spot on.

Feel sick even typing the words:

Bones and All

There. Don’t blame me if you’re never the same person again after seeing it.

The Descent is brilliant

Yes. Best horror film ever

Youreatragedystartingtohappen · 25/02/2026 19:29

The Descent gets my vote, the strangers and Eden Lake. The last one isn’t a typical horror but it was genuinely unsettling.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 25/02/2026 19:29

Jane Doe is excellent … very very creepy

it Follows is terrifying

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 25/02/2026 19:30

Jordan Peele films are awesome and some of the best ones to come from the horror genre in a long time

old favourite like Halloween and Texas Chainsaw

Borderlands

The first Smile is the great combination of fucking scary and very depressing 😄

SwankyPants · 25/02/2026 19:32

I loved the Hell House films.
Grave Encounters
Gonjiam Haunted Asylum

Just came on to add the Descent. Really good scary film!

The Loved Ones (Australian)

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 25/02/2026 19:43

Martyrs is bloody good. Leaves you a bit unsettled after it. Also bring her back which is a newish film and Lowlifes and Companion. I bloody love horror films. Have enjoyed all the Jordan Peele films and all the 28 days/weeks/years. But also love a low budget too.

Yes. Forgot this one. This is one I’ve watched and don’t really want to watch again. Like Eden lake.

The Descent is brilliant

The Descent terrified me! I thought it was going to be some sort of psychological horror!
