To ask DH not to strain my teabag with his bare hands?

TeaSqueezingpos · 24/02/2026 22:26

DH has been making me cups of tea for about 10 years. Funnily enough I’ve never stopped to watch him make it because.. well then I might aswell make it myself. This man make me about 2 cups of tea a day.

Hes making my evening tea today, and I catch him squeezing the teabag out, into my tea.. with his bare hands. Confused I ask “did you just use your bare hands to squeeze my teabag out?”

“well yeah?”

WHAT. What kind of psychopath have I been living with? He said that’s how he’s always done it. I’ve asked him to never do that again because.. ew! It’s somehow worse than someone touching my food with their bare hands 🤣

please tell me I’m not being unreasonable😩

YABU. I’d be more concerned he’d burn his hand!

He said he doesn’t do it with the spoon on the side of the mug because it doesn’t get all of the tea out, he likes to really squeeze it out 😩😭

I’ve told him everytime I get him a glass of water I’m going to let the tap run off my hand as it enters his glass.

It's how I do it. Give it 5 mins, Grab the edge of the bag, dunk it up and down a couple of times and gently squeeze from the edge with thumb and forefinger. Into compost caddy.

Morepositivemum · 24/02/2026 22:39

I do the same as WrigglyDonCat
It’s learned behaviour from dh! I’d only do it for my own though and never in company, spoon for everyone else’s!!!

MyThreeWords · 24/02/2026 22:41

I think the near-boiling water will have sterilised his fingers. He could probably do a quick bit of open heart surgery right after he's made your tea.

SayWibble · 24/02/2026 22:41

Does he open beer bottles with his teeth too?

GreyCarpet · 24/02/2026 22:41

I do that too.

I use a spoon for guests but otherwise, its fingers.

TeaSqueezingpos · 24/02/2026 22:42

This is utter madness. Touching a wet teabag into the drink should be illegal.

do you guys juice oranges with your fists too?! Animalistic behaviour 😆😆😆

I'm a straight man but how macho. Squeezing a hot bag with his bare hands kinda sounds like a Julian Clarey line

That's how i do it, and that's how i make my husband's tea...

Pollymollydolly · 24/02/2026 22:43

Has he ever made you a sandwich?! He’ll have touched the bread and filling with his bare hands…
it’s an odd way to make tea imo but no, it wouldn’t bother me if my Dh did this, he’s clean and would have clean hands

Ginflinger · 24/02/2026 22:43

Had exactly the same realisation recently. Together for 20 years. 😱

fashionqueen0123 · 24/02/2026 22:43

I saw someone doing this for the first time a few weeks ago I couldn’t believe it!
Just use a spoon!!

Namechange6578 · 24/02/2026 22:44

My DH does it too 😂 I just wonder how it doesn't burn his fingers!!
He cooks dinner often and I don't say no if he offers to make me a sandwich for lunch, so I don't see the difference?

TeaSqueezingpos · 24/02/2026 22:45

There’s something about a wet food item being touched that’s so much worse than regular food? Like you wouldn’t eat a sarnie where they’ve spread the peanut butter with their fingers surely?! 😆

Umm, yeah, sometimes squeeze oranges or lemons in my hands for juice. Only for.cooking though. Probably wouldn't just to drink but I have never used fresh oranges for drinking.

Denim4ever · 24/02/2026 22:46

I don't squeeze at all. Dunk, lift, bin

No I do know what you mean, if I saw that it'd blow my mind 😆 buttering my toast with his fingers 😬

This is somehow more concerning. You’re throwing away a teabag filled with the most refined and exquisite tea..

Well it's 'cos I like it well stewed, so have wandered off with the mug so can't be bothered going for a spoon.

I am in this camp too, something about the tannins, I think it’s much tastier when you don’t squeeze. Let it steep a bit tho, milk, lift, bin.

I'm starting to picture a romantic scene a bit like the arrival of the alpha Milk Tray man in the old adverts.
Instead of abseiling in with a box of chocolates, he squeezes hot teabags in his bare hands, punches oranges into liquid form, and cracks walnuts in his teeth, to make breakfast for his woman.

MasterBeth · 24/02/2026 23:00

Euphemism alert!!
