not here, but in germany you would be fined apparently!!

morningpaper · 16/06/2008 14:13

lol yes

on a Sunday I would leave it until about 11

Thomcat · 16/06/2008 14:14

Better than 7.30am which is when my normally quite nice neighbour did his. It needed doing very badly and I could hearthe mower cutting through twigs and allsorts. Was so peed off with him tbh.

Apparently there is a rule about this sort of thing before 8am????????

cheesesarnie · 16/06/2008 14:15

if you were living near me then id be very angry especially on a sunday.was there a reason it couldnt be done later?

Anna8888 · 16/06/2008 14:18

9am sounds early to me.

Having said that, my downstairs neighbour had a go at me this morning because she says our children make so much noise in the evening that hers cannot sleep.

We live in an apartment block where noises carry very badly (we were party to all the night time arguments of our divorcing upstairs neighbours and, now that they have gone, to late night music of new neighbours).

Our children are not particularly noisy, but they don't go to bed at 8.30 pm like the children beneath us. That is the crux of the matter.

LullyMummaOfOne · 16/06/2008 14:18

Very wrong, Sunday is a day of rest and alot of peoples day off so a little later in day would have been more respectable. Unless you live in a village where your nearest neighbour lives a mile away then i agree with Morningpaper, 11am is a good time.

9 am on a Sunday - very wrong imo. For many people it's the only opportunity for a lie-in.

wrong, far too early

my children aren't allowed out in the garden too early either on a Sunday as I don't think my neighbours want to hear them whinging on at 8am

x posts there

my neighbours let their grandchildren out at 7.30am the other day!

fryalot · 16/06/2008 14:24

I think it depends on what the demographic of your neighbours is.

If there are fairly young professional types who are likely to be trying to grab a lie in on a Sunday then YABU, but if everyone has a young family (or are farmers like here) then YANBU at all - they'll all be awake anyway.

kslatts · 16/06/2008 14:27

I don't think 9am is too early. I would rather my neighbour did it at 9am on a Sunday than later on in the afternoon when we are relaxing in our garden.

cheesesarnie · 16/06/2008 14:27

have your neighbours complained?

Love2bake · 16/06/2008 14:36

I wouldn't do it before 10am, same rule for my noisy children in the garden.

wotulookinat · 16/06/2008 14:38

I don't care what time I mow my lawn. I also don't care that when I do it, I leave bits of grass all over next door's car and driveway. The last 30cm of the grass is theirs anyway but I just cut it when I do mine. And my neighbour happily smokes cigars in his garden all day and the smoke comes in my back door. He's not considerate so neither will I be!

Bucharest · 16/06/2008 14:38

YANBU- blimeyheck, 9am is almost lunchtime when you've got small children!

GooseyLoosey · 16/06/2008 14:42

Yep, I think 9.00am is too early too. Pre-children I would not have appreciated being treated to the sound of someone else's lawn mower when I was trying to sleep.

foofi · 16/06/2008 14:43

I wanted to mow my lawn around 9 yesterday, but wouldn't dare as my neighbours would definitely start a war, so I waited until almost 11am. On Saturday I think any time after 8.30 is reasonable though.

We currently have builders next door- and this morning they started at 6.45. I know it's not Sunday today, but they were here at that time on Saturday as well.....

Playingthewaitinggame · 16/06/2008 16:35

Our neighbour hoovers upstairs between 6.30am-7.30am at the weekends, I would love it if she waited till 9am!! I don't even have kids yet (I'm working on it) and I dont see how it can bother people at 9am! If people want a lie in and the noise wakes them up they can shut their window and go back to sleep. I think noise outside on any day from 9am onwards is fair game, even if your neighbours went to bed at 1am they would still have got 8 hours sleep!

misdee · 16/06/2008 16:37

not wrong. dh is up at 7am to take meds and i can sleep through my chidlrens racket i can sleep through a lawnmower.

LadyOfWaffle · 16/06/2008 16:43

Wow 9am isn't early! But I probably wouldn't do it before 8am. I love the sound of lawn mowers though...
