To stop nurse from giving me an Iv flush?

I don’t know maybe I was. I don’t gel with her anyway she’s a band 4 with no sense of personal space. This morning she woke me up with her face in mine it really made me jump. Them proceeded to
hrlp me sit up o am not a complete invalid and she had me in a hold right next to her bust. I literally shouted that police song Don’t Stamd so close to me. She’s been on am hour and now she’s been in 9 times. Jesus I have to
jsve a shower and it’s her I’ve asked for some omelet as well.

Sou picc line needed flushing she went off and drew something up and tried to flush I syopprd her straight away and said she wasn’t qualified to flush long lines and I don’t know what was in it. She said she’s qualified on her own country for years. I’m a nurse, the band five came in flushed it and said the four can flush as she’s qualified at home. Am o wrong then? They are all lovely and trying their best but I just thought I don’t know what I are putting on me and it needs to be done sterile.

i will have a think about the personal space thing as it’s a difficult one she could be horrible to me

Somewhat incomprehensible but yes YABU. Sorry you are not well, it must be horrible.

EachandEveryone · 22/02/2026 09:46

Yeah I’m riddled with cancer and have a massive infection. I think it’s playing with my mind! I honestly thought two people had to check.

OP posts:
Muchtoomuchtodo · 22/02/2026 09:46

How do you know what band she is?

sorry you’re not well but it sounds as if you’re being very rude to the staff who are trying to care for you

Keroppi · 22/02/2026 09:52

If you're a nurse yourself trust your instincts tbh you don't need to be rude but you're allowed to stick up for yourself and question your care, ask for some personal space or ask if you can try getting up yourself to prevent muscle wastage & if you're having trouble she can step in.

Just ask her about what she's doing and hygiene practices etc obviously you'll come across possibly as annoying but so what, people get mistreated in hospitals all the time, plus you may then have your mind at ease if she answers protocol qs correctly and is efficient and clean.

EachandEveryone · 22/02/2026 10:15

She comes into my room all the time I think she’s lonely or something. Just as she left she said I’ll be back in five minutes and o said please don’t I want to sleep I’ve been up
all night emptying my bag hourly.)another job they have time for ) and she replied but I like you! Hopefully she will
get an admission to keep
her busy..

whoever said how do you know what’s band they are is that a serious question?

OP posts:
caljohn · 22/02/2026 10:17

I would not know what band a nurse was. I am in hospital daily at the moment visiting for hours at a time. Why do you think everyone would know?

EachandEveryone · 22/02/2026 10:18

Uniforms? Conversation?

OP posts:
sittingonabeach · 22/02/2026 10:18

I wouldn’t know a nurse banding either and what the implications of that banding means.

plentyofsunshine · 22/02/2026 10:19

yes it's a serious question - how do you know what band she is?

I don’t know one uniform from another. And without overhearing nurses discussing their band? It’s not the kind of thing I would ask.

I wouldn’t either.

But OP clearly doesn’t have confidence in her, so I hope there is an alternative she feels more comfortable with.

sittingonabeach · 22/02/2026 10:21

@EachandEveryone you are coming from knowledge. If in hospital a long time I might ask how long they have been nursing out of general interest but I wouldn’t know what that meant they were qualified to do

Gloriia · 22/02/2026 10:22

If she isn't a qualified nurse in this country I wouldn't have thought she should be doing anything to long lines tbh but many hcas do extended roles so perhaps she is. Ask the ward manager.

Well obviously the OP knows and has asked. People in the same profession usually do. Weird how that's so hard to understand on here and people are using it to kick a seriously unwell person who's feeling vulnerable in hospital.

I've been in hospital many a time and patient info sets out what uniforms mean what.

MissMoneyFairy · 22/02/2026 10:24

It's easy to ask what band a nurse is, she may be a b4 waiting for uk registration. I'd speak to the ward manager and express your concerns, is she using the right technique. As band 5 and 6 we had to undergo picc training before we could use them.

Uniforms? Conversation?

I’ve had a few appointments recently and I wouldn’t know what a green uniform means, a white uniform with a green stripe, a blue uniform (seen a few different blues) or a white uniform with a blue stripe, a purple uniform, a white uniform with a yellow stripe etc . And I’ve not once heard staff talking about what band they are nor would I understand the implications if I did. So yes, it is a real, honest question.

MissMoneyFairy · 22/02/2026 10:26

Sorry to hear you're unwell, I hope you are comfortable. Are you in isolation, surely the staff shouldn't come into your room unnecessarily

category12 · 22/02/2026 10:26

... another job they have time for ) and she replied but I like you!

It sounds like she was joking.

She's not checking on you for the fun of it, she's trying to do her job and you need the checks.

You're tires and sick and it feels like a lot, but they're trying to help you.

Why?

MissMoneyFairy · 22/02/2026 10:29

2 don't need to check everything, they need to check the solution but not the procedure. It needs to be sterile, it will be on their intranet system.

BudgetBuster · 22/02/2026 10:30

Well then that's the answer. There's no need to be arsey.

Tbh you sound a little rude toward her. She woke you for a medical necessity... she was trying to help you up. You can just say "I don't need help, thanks". No idea what the shower or omelette have to do with anything...?

Re the qualification part. If she's not qualified or you would prefer 2 nurses then just tell the nurse in charge this.

MissMoneyFairy · 22/02/2026 10:33

Why did it need flushing, if your on medication the staff nurses should be flushing before and after each dose anyway and checking and disconnecting any infusions,

Toddlerteaplease · 22/02/2026 10:34

Im a nurse and absolutely no way can a band 4 flush a PICC. Some band five’s can’t either u til they’ve done the training. She might be qualified in her own country. But you aren’t in hoer country. Speak to NIC.

Tbf I'd be arsey as well if I was full.of cancer and I'm hospital with an infection and strangers started asking stupid fucking questions.

I'd hazard a guess everyone on this thread would be.

Cringing for some on this thread like.
