Are you now more likely to vote for REFORM (the party)

NC for this and apologies if Q already asked. My quick search yielded no result.

Reform plan to undo the reversal of 2 child cap benefit. Are you now likely (or more likely) to vote for them? There have been endless threads about the welfare bill.

Hell, no. I’ll never vote for them.

No. I've got a brain and a conscience

Why do people say things like this? Do they think implying others have no conscience and are stupid will make them consider the error of their ways?
It's lazy, self-serving and shows a certain lack of ability to learn from the mistakes of Brexit.
Anyway, i digress from the thread's competitive Farage hate. Oooh, who can call him the rudest name??

WonkyConk · 18/02/2026 18:55

I’d rather eat wasps.

I agree with this so, so much.

People won’t admit to agreeing with him or voting for him for the same reasons that nobody will admit to voting for Brexit. They don’t want to hear a barrage on insults about how stupid some people think they are. And that’s how he’ll get in; because rather than have a sensible conversation about his plans for the NHS etc, where they’d stand a reasonable chance of changing someone’s mind, they’ll just resort to insults. It happened with Brexit and some of you were left looking around you like you couldn’t understand how it had happened, because everyone you knew had said they would be voting Remain. It’s happening again.

Not wasps specifically, but one of Labours initial net zero policies was to use the tax system to push people towards incorporating insects into their diets . So you jest, but you might very well end up doing that in the unlikely event that Labour get a 2nd term.

Catterbat · 18/02/2026 19:06

Fuck no.

Re: 2 child benefit cap. Why are so many opposed to lifting it? Is it the assumption that people are producing endless children just to get more benefits? What about people who find themselves on benefits through no fault of their own (ie redundancy, fleeing dv, illness, other million variables) and can’t afford to feed the 3 or 4 kids they could afford when they had them, are we supposed to just leave those children in poverty? Genuine question.

Selenassunsetsangria · 18/02/2026 16:23

When Labour got in, people went to such places as Dubai. If Reform get in where will people go?

I don't have the answer hence the question. Wondering what the outcome would be.

Well there is always the option of North Korea and its socialist utopia?

Dont forget; reform want to take over your womb as well; indirectly. By giving tax breaks to those who have children, they are enforcing higher taxes on those who remain childfree (by choice or design).

No kids? Higher taxes.

Policies of Handmaid's tale

Exactly. Here’s a tiny tax break on your way to Gilead - no thanks.

I’m voting Reform. I’m basically a one issue voter, with the one issue being reversing the children’s education and vocational training tax that Labour implemented . All the parties outside Labour, Greens and the SNP have said they’ll reverse it but Reform is the best way to make my vote count in my area. Outside of that, Reforms outlook is very pro growth and they’re making all right noises on sensible taxation. Quite excited about it to be honest.

Private School VAT, not education tax as state education is free.

Are you happy with their proposal for a 50% target for children going into trades?

Or do you expect private education to be exempt?

It’s probably the people paying for it who have the problem. I’d imagine most people wouldn’t care if they were giving free gold bars away, if the tax burden wasn’t the highest since world war 2 and everything else was running smoothly.

No we shouldn’t, but is it too much to ask for people to consider if they have the means to manage 3, 4 plus children in the event of death, divorce/relationship breakdown, illness - all not new phenomena prior to planning large families.
I’d argue no one needs to have four children but that’s another thread.

Exactly.

The impact of poverty on educational outcomes is well documented, if we can help pull more children out of poverty and break that cycle then hopefully we will see better long term outcomes.

There again if reform get their hands on the education system then we are stuffed as they have made their views on supporting vulnerable pupils very clear.

It’s not private school VAT, private schools have paid VAT for over 25 years. It’s VAT on children aged between 5 and 18 paying for education or vocational training (obviously the fee payers, usually the family), I’d like all children’s Education to be tax exempt in line with the rest of Europe and the majority of the world. Here is a link explaining how the children’s education and vocational training tax works https://www.gov.uk/guidance/vat-on-education-and-vocational-training-notice-70130

Do you have a link regarding 50% children going in trades target?

Education and vocational training (VAT Notice 701/30)

Find out how VAT applies to education, research, vocational training, examination services and goods and services connected with these activities.

No. I have no party I can vote for. They are either right wing grifters or don’t know what a woman is (not a man) so I’m politically homeless. I have been a Lib Dem voter all my life (except the last 6/7 years) and I’m heartbroken that I can’t vote now.

No, not exploring alternative sources of food..using tax (surprise surprise) to change behaviour in line with ideology. It was dropped though, but it could come back. They do love a tax.

As you say, it only applies to fee payers. It appears to be a brexit benefit.

Braverman announced it in her speech yesterday

Yusuf was asked about his experience with state schools at the same conference but Farage didn't let him answer and attacked the female journalist instead

LunaDeBallona · 18/02/2026 18:50

Do you like tens of thousands of white girls being raped and no (mainly Labour) council will do a thing about it because of ‘racist’??
Don’t forget to put that on your list.

I think the most prolific sexual abuse in my lifetime was carried out by a white man named Jimmy Saville, who was protected by many other wealthy white men. Lets not forget the white Catholic priests either.
Do you really believe Reform care about girls? What policies do they propose to protect girls? Reform have recently took over the council I work for as a social worker. All they are interested in is cutting the spending. I'm yet to see them implement or even suggest anything to protect children or vulnerable adults.

Do you have a link for this target please?
