Get the bottom sheets on beds completely taught?

Look folks, just pack an extra bag of stuff just for hotel bedrooms, like I do.....

A rechargeable tiny touch lamp. If I wake in the night I just touch the top and I can see my way to the bathroom, I bring it with me ha ha so I don't wake anyone up either, and I don't accidentally do the Blackpool illuminations with the switch combo in the room. OK that's one.

An eye mask, or two. That'll sort out the chink of light between the curtains and the flight deck of all the other nighttime lowlights that shine even when you switch everything you can think of off!

A decent size extension cord.

A decent size mug. A few cappuccino sachets - I can't stand the UHT milk for tea or coffee, so that keeps me going. A packet of decent bikkies.

A little sliver of blu tak for anchoring the phone stand to the locker top. I hate that they move by themselves especially if I have it plugged in to charge while scrolling. Netflix by my bed too lol.

That's a flavour of my must bring items to any hotel. I haven't got as far as bringing my own duvet or top or bottom sheet yet, but give it time. 😂

Fewer fruit teas and more coffee and normal tea with plenty of milk.

But my main thing is it’s such a shame they so often have ditched a bath tub! I usually only shower at home but I miss the fact I could have a nice long bubble bath and read a book to relax especially after a long drive. Especially as there’s often not a huge amount to do in the evenings in some hotels after eating.

OMG, what a moany thread!

You do realise its a HOTEL, somewhere to sleep, not your home, you arent living there!

No matter what a hotel provided it wouldnt be enough.

Aw, bless, you don't really understand how this sort of thread works do you ?

Light-hearted, bit of a moan, but sharing.

Hotels are in the service industry so if many people agree they fall short in some aspects they might look to themselves.

If a hotel manager, heaven forbid, even a CEO, sees these posts they might have a think, but in the meantime the rest of us can have a laugh and get things off our chests.

Bottom sheets just don't pay attention.
They mess about,
They don't listen,
They don't do their homework.

They just can't be taught.

😆😆😆

Provide twin beds in accessible rooms. No idea why they think you want to share a bed with your carer

🤣

@benten54too bright to sleep in, but not bright enough when you’re awake. Tiny little side lights but not a nice bright overhead light.

@ThinkingAbout2026 a glass door to a bathroom? Really? As in see-through? Thankfully I’ve never come across one of those, and hope to keep it that way.

Re lack of power outlets by the bed - DH has a CPAP machine and we have to take an extension lead with us every time we go away, and have often ended up with the lead trailing across the floor from the other side of the room, which isn't great.

To think the hotel were out of order with valentines stay/room? | Mumsnet

I had a night away booked with my boyfriend on Saturday (the first time we had stayed overnight with each other). It was a modern hotel with a glass...

I agree, I said up thread, I'm a CPAP user and this is a real issue. Why is a usb needed at the head of the bed but not a regular 3 pin socket?

Just leave the duvet on top of the bed instead of tucking it under the mattress meaning the sheet comes untucked too when you remove it. And the sheet is always a flat sheet that's bit too small to tuck under properly.

Oh I didn't think many people were annoyed by that - DH thinks me untucking the duvet etc is hilarious. Nice to hear I'm not alone! I need to be able to stick my feet out!

The best hotel I stayed in for work, after two nights realised what i was doing and started leaving the duvet untucked. I was super impressed. Never happened anywhere else.

I can’t believe anyone would be able to sleep without the duvet being untucked. It’s way too restricting.

@RampantIvy I saw that thread last night and I was horrified. Until yesterday I didn’t know such a ridiculous invention existed. I had to check the calendar to see if it was April 1st.

I must have missed your post. It's a PITA isn't it.

Ginmonkeyagain · 18/02/2026 08:14

I thought this thread this morning as I undertook a scavenger hunt around my hotel room looking for the hair drier. I found it on the top shelf of the wardrobe underneath the spare pillows and laundry bag.

Glass bathroom doors very common in Europe.

They also seem to like saloon bar doors - a gap of about 12 inches above and below the door.

Bizarre.

Yes! Whyyy???

No matter what a hotel provided it wouldnt be enough.

I travel for work. Sometimes Sunday night to Friday morning. It IS my home. Badly made beds, too hot room, plug sockets in inaccessible places, mouses breath hairdryers, shit coffee, 3 hangers, curtains that don’t block light, noise, random flashing lights, tvs that only have Eurosport 3 that works, warm bathroom water as the only drinkable option, damp towels, watered down toiletries, no sockets near mirrors and all the other things mentioned here make life living away from home just that little bit more miserable.
Hotel design isn’t hard but sometimes it feels like they have given standard human usage no thought at all.

ThinkingAbout2026 · 17/02/2026 07:11

Sooo true! I am an epileptic and have to sleep with an eye mask in some hotels, always a flashing smoke alarm.

Also have proper doors for the bathrooms (not those weird semi glass sliding doors). I don't want to hear my partner having a shit.

When premier inn did that thing where they refunded you if you didn't sleep well, I got our money back for the bright blue light blasting from the thermostat all night!

At least tuck it away in the wardrobe or something, why does it have to be attached to the wall right next to the bed?!

Aposterhasnoname · 18/02/2026 13:03

Put decent lighting in, every hotel I've ever been in is always ridiculously dark, until you want to go to sleep of course, then every single electrical item in the place from the aircon unit to the trouser press has a digital display or stand by light so bright its visible from space

I agree. Why do hotels only use 40w light bulbs and don't have central light?
