Get the bottom sheets on beds completely taught?

Have a simple way to switch off lights.

Omg this. It’s often like the crystal maze.

ReadingCrimeFiction · 17/02/2026 15:30

Lots of signs asking me to "help them protect the environment by reusing towels"... but no way to dry those freaking towels in order to be able to reuse them. Drives me absolutely round the bend. X 100 when staying somewhere with the whole family.

Manymoresometimes · 17/02/2026 15:36

OMG, what a moany thread!

You do realise its a HOTEL, somewhere to sleep, not your home, you arent living there!

No matter what a hotel provided it wouldnt be enough.

Brefugee · 17/02/2026 15:40

when you get sent to a place for 2 weeks for work and have to live in a hotel, some of these things make a massive difference to your stay.

MrsMoastyToasty · 17/02/2026 15:44

Provide a proper bed for children to sleep on in family rooms (Premier Inn, I'm looking at you). DS was nearly 6ft tall at 15 years old. There was no chance he could sleep on the couch type thing that they provide. I am paying for a bed I expect a bed!

You still spend hours in there. Why shouldn’t it be comfy and thought given to make the stay good. I agree with the suggestions. Shows what is lacking in many hotels.

2 chairs in a room for 2 people and a headboard that doesn’t bang against the wall.

Sounds like an exciting stay!

bumphousebump · 17/02/2026 15:51

Cushions and throws that look suspiciously like they have never been washed and you have to pile up in a corner every night!

Light switches that are obvious so when you turn up at midnight knackered from travelling - or come in from a night out - you stand a chance of turning the lights on - and not the whole main light.

GretaGip · 17/02/2026 15:53

I'm really surprised no one has mentioned a door chain or swing bolt.

I really don't feel safe in a room without as a mastercard or master key can be used to access even if you've turned the finger bolt inside.

I had one occasion when another guest accidentally gained access using their key, as in they were room 326, I was 226 and they were in the wrong floor.

But lots of the issues are prohibitive to sleep! (noise, light, difficult to control temperature, heavy bedding etc)
And things like a normal kettle, decent lightning or a full length mirror are not outrageously extravagant to have in a room you've paid to stay in....

Winederlust · 17/02/2026 18:09

I don't understand the 'nowhere to dry your towels' comments... there's usually a heated towel rail in the bathroom and numerous hooks or a towel shelf by the shower in almost all places I've stayed?

JackGrealishsCalves · 17/02/2026 18:15

Loving this thread and have experienced almost all of them in one hotel or another.
Mine is putting the shower gel/shampoo bottles (the ones attached to the shower wall) right underneath the shower head.
I have to do gymnastics to use it if I'm not washing my hair and don't want to get my hair wet.
Put them on the back wall!

Cyclistmumgrandma · 17/02/2026 18:21

Fit a shower that you can reach the controls for without standing under it. They have a habit of fitting the rain shower things that are fixed above your head. I'm fed up of getting drenched in freezing cold water while I wait for the warm water to come through.
I also habit having to remake the bed every time after untucking the duvet to get into bed and pulling out the bottom sheet at the same time.

Provide anything to dry a damp towel on. Have plugs in useful places eg. near the mirror. I have taken to packing an extension lead!

Me too!

Have a room temperature in between freezing and boiling.

We stayed in a hotel last night managed to turn radiator in room off and open windows. Couldn't figure out bathroom radiator and no windows my moisturiser melted overnight!

jmh740 · 17/02/2026 18:26

Provide a large glass for orange/fruit juice!

Imlyingandthatsthetruth · 17/02/2026 18:26

Ah, MN classic.

OP: "tell me about annoying things in hotels"

Posters [lots of funny/true tales of annoying things in hotels]

The inevitable poster: "OMG, what a moany thread!"

Every. Bloody. Time.

AlcoholicAntibiotic · 17/02/2026 18:27

Have those stupid pod coffee makers - just provide a kettle. They never make enough coffee even if you can get them to work and never have enough black coffee pods.

Rainfall showers. Just why? You can’t wash properly.

RampantIvy · 17/02/2026 18:28

tilypu · 16/02/2026 22:43

I have to admit, I struggle to teach my bottom sheets anything.

😁
They just don't listen do they.

SoSadandTired7 · 17/02/2026 18:32

A dark room! Especially now we have a toddler, all those annoying lights that stay on are doubly annoying as they prevent my child from sleeping!

I now travel with tape everywhere so I can hide the various lights.

StarlightLady · 17/02/2026 18:45

Bloody fixed pipe showers where you have to do a handstand to wash your bum and your fanny!

Bunnycat101 · 17/02/2026 18:46

A lack of plug sockets by the bed. I’ve had a few hotel stays this year for work where they have removed plugs altogether and just have a usb slot. That was annoying as didn’t fit my charger and now chargers are moving to USB C, it’s even less helpful.

Bunnycat101 · 17/02/2026 18:51

Other annoyance is the fixed bottle of shower gel and shampoo in stupid locations that seem to be hard to reach if you’re showering or having a bath. And taps that are hard tp reach. I had a bath in one hotel where it was impossible to add more water if you were in the bath as the taps were really high.

FlorbelaEspanca · 17/02/2026 19:42

Provide soap rather than shower gel - or at least, if I take my own, provide somewhere to put the soap while having a shower where the water won't erode it.

Make drinkable coffee: I drink only tea in hotels unless I am very sure of my ground - or, I should rather say, grounds.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 17/02/2026 19:54

Bottom sheets just don't pay attention.
They mess about,
They don't listen,
They don't do their homework.

They just can't be taught.
