So what’s happening with the epstein files?

Newsenmum · 16/02/2026 20:41

What’s actually going to happen? These files are everywhere. They are all over social media. My algorithm is horrifying. More and more every day.

But what’s actually being done? I don’t see any action, protest, nothing.

I read that it was purposefully to put it all out there so horrifying that people are too overwhelmed to act.

Is this it then?

ultracynic · 16/02/2026 20:46

Dunno. I’m still waiting for the other men to get named and shamed. So far, other than an allegedly murdered Epstein, the only folk being talked about are Brits. Nothing to see across the pond, m’lud.

Overtheatlantic · 16/02/2026 20:52

Rich white men will protect rich white men. Epstein is dead, Maxwell is in prison, Virginia Guiffre is dead, the arsehole formerly known as Prince Andrew has been demoted but will probably end up in Saudi living a very nice life. I would be surprised if anything else happens. I don’t even know if trump and his criminals will be weakened by this.

Needmorelego · 16/02/2026 20:54

Lots of names.
But as far as I can tell nothing seems to prove anything was illegal - ie no proof of girls underage except for with Epstein himself, nothing that proves women were being trafficked, nothing that says the names on the list paid money for sex.
It's just impossible to prove what was actually happening.

Ablondiebutagoody · 16/02/2026 21:01

Nothing will be done to any of the rich and powerful men involved.

FOJN · 16/02/2026 21:06

Maxwell has said she will give evidence to exonerate Trump if she receives a pardon so expect that to happen. Victims who have revealed the names of their abusers have been threatened with legal action by men who can destroy them so there won't be any court cases. Expect to see a lot more people "conveniently" dying prematurely in mysterious circumstances.

Agree. It's also not illegal to pay for sex so even if there was evidence that money was exchanged, there's no legal problem there either.

The illegal bit is the trafficking and the people that led that are dead (Epstein) or in prison (Maxwell).

One of the biggest challenges they would have is that it would be very difficult to prove 'beyond reasonable doubt' that a crime was committed. Guiffre is a good example here - whilst she states she was mentally under the control of Epstein, she was physically free to walk away (which she did on 2 separate occasions, she voluntarily went back the first time). Throughout her time with Epstein, she had money, her own flat and her own car, she lived with her boyfriend and regularly saw and spoke to her family. She voluntarily went back to his house every day, got on his private jets voluntarily, travelled the world voluntarily and groomed other women voluntarily. (By 'voluntarily' I mean without physical force or threat). She walked away from Epstein with zero complications when she met her husband. Epstein/Maxwell made no attempt to stop her. (All of this is in her own book). Even though we assume she was groomed and I believe her, there is no actual evidence that would hold up in a court of law. How do you prove 'beyond reasonable doubt' that the sex she was having was against her will?

MeghansToes · 16/02/2026 23:54

The rich and powerful have always ruled as elites. It has always been this way. Only in relatively recent history have we thought that civilisation and democracy in first world countries means something. It doesn’t. The elite are going to get away with whatever they like until the whole system is broken down, which won’t be as too many people fear disruption to their lives on the scale it needs to happen.

Really? Do you read newspapers?

It is absolutely illegal to pay for sex in the US.

Interesting! Hadn't realised that. It's not illegal in the UK, I just assumed it wasn't in the US too.

HeddaGarbled · 17/02/2026 00:25

Three randoms from 3 news sources today found in about 5 minutes. There’s several of these every day, plus of course the on-going protests from the US politicians.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/czx47k34yqxo

Guardian: Six Sarah Ferguson-linked companies to close after Epstein revelations

NYT: Tom Pritzker, Citing Epstein Connection, Steps Down as Hyatt’s Executive Chairman

I understand it’s galling that only Brits seem to be suffering any real consequences as yet, but it’s a bit daft to say that nothing is happening.

Hillary Clinton in BBC interview

Hillary Clinton accuses Trump administration of Epstein files cover-up in BBC interview

"Get the files out. They are slow-walking it," the former US secretary of state says. The White House says it has done "more for the victims than Democrats ever did".

Sparklybutold · 17/02/2026 00:30

Nothing will happen. Zilch. Nada. The abuse will continue elsewhere. Powerful men will always come out on top.

No I use bbc news app.

Surely something needs to?

MyTrivia · 17/02/2026 07:17

I’m very upset by it all. I used to hope this stuff was conspiracy but some of the things in those files are truly sickening and JE’s vile behaviour was the tip of an ice berg.

Newsenmum · 17/02/2026 07:19

There must be something we can do.

OP posts:
Newsenmum · 17/02/2026 07:19

Can we at least find the root cause of why people do this. It’s so unbearable.

Cosmication · 17/02/2026 07:23

There's a lot of fake news circulating on social media apparently. I've heard several references here to the idea that they abused or murdered babies and children but I haven't read anything to suggest that that's actually true? Not saying that trafficking, grooming and paying for sex isn't bad enough.

MyTrivia · 17/02/2026 07:25

I’ve said this before but it seems that David Icke was right about some of these things. Namely that there are influential people who kill innocent others as a sacrifice so that they have a prosperous year. Hoi polloi is encouraged to be secular so that this stuff seems far fetched. Even if it’s nonsensical (which it is) that is what they believe. Someone was saying on another thread that Icke is a holocaust denier so he must be wrong about everything but sadly it doesn’t work like that.

I have a family friend who was semi-famous and she partied with P Diddy once. She always said the illuminati rumours were real and I tried to push it to the back of my mind.

As for what we can do about it. I just don’t know.

PurpleAxe · 17/02/2026 07:26

Rich, powerful men abuse women and children.

Nothing ever changes, and nothing will be done.

Because the rich powerful men are the rich and powerful ones who could do something

They might make a few sacrifices to satisfy the mob.

But otherwise, everything will just roll on.

Some of it is true. I used to wish it was fake news.

They do it because they can. That's it. They believe their money and connections give them licence to do whatsoever they choose with no consequences. And so it proves.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 17/02/2026 07:36

There are states in the US that run brothels. It’s not illegal to pay for sex. In the UK it’s illegal to live off immoral earnings (pimp) and it’s illegal to solicit for sex.
