Sorry, but £5 for a mediocre sized bag in my local co-op. AIBU?

Cost of chocolate has sky rocketed over the last year or so. It’s shit, but it is what it is.

GasPanic · 16/02/2026 18:44

Mr Cadburys Parrot needs more cash for housing costs, fuel payments and birdseed.

Olderandwiserpossibly · 16/02/2026 18:47

Apparently the cost of cocoa has now fallen but not in time to affect the price of Easter eggs.
The prediction is chocolate should be cheaper by next Christmas. But I wouldn't hold my breathe because prices rarely go down ime. Only up.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 16/02/2026 18:50

£2 for a bag that had 23 in it.

Nourishinghandcream · 16/02/2026 18:51

We tend to go through a "moderate😀" amount of mini-eggs but buy them online in 3kg bags (usually from Monmore Confectionary).
Agree that the price of coco has gone up but the eggs always increase in price at this time of year and then go down later, we buy our Spring/Easter supply before Christmas and generally pay around £22-24 a bag.

Wheech · 16/02/2026 18:53

The price of palm oil must be going up again.

B1anche · 16/02/2026 18:57

They're not exactly a necessity, are they? Just don't buy them if they're out of your price range.

bohnerific69 · 16/02/2026 19:01

What size bag? In Morrisons the 256g bag is £5.30. It’d be interesting to see how the prices compare cause co-op is usually a lot more.

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 16/02/2026 19:04

And they don’t taste anything like they used to

That's not the point. The point is that they shouldn't be this expensive. It's just the supermarkets taking the piss. And they wonder why there is a shoplifting epedemic. I'm not saying it's right to steal, of course, but sometimes it is understandable.

I have so much respect and admiration for this approach to mini eggs

BeingATwatItsABingThing · 16/02/2026 19:07

Mini Eggs are astronomically expensive for what they are. They are a once luxury at Easter now which is not a bad thing for my waistline.

Nourishinghandcream · 16/02/2026 19:11

"They're not exactly a necessity, are they?"

Wash your mouth out you strange, weird person...........😖
Since when did chocolate (and crispy coated mini-eggs at that) stop being a necessity?????😲

As I said up thread, 3kg bags is the only way to ensure a reasonable supply is safely to hand at all times.👍

fafafafafafafafafafarbetter · 16/02/2026 19:31

M&S Speckled Eggs are £1.75 a bag and the chocolate is far nicer than the Cadburys mini eggs.

Is that for Cadbury mini eggs or the off brand catering ones? If it's Cadbury's do you have a link to them please? Thanks

MammaTo · 16/02/2026 19:39

I don’t think we have the budget to maintain my addiction between now and Easter.

MakeYourOwnSunshine · 16/02/2026 19:42

I found a bag in the cupboard from last year. They're yours for £4.50! 😁

50NotFat · 16/02/2026 19:46

I prefer coop own brand. £1 a bag!

ChimpanzeeThatMonkeyNews · 16/02/2026 19:47

The Co-op is very expensive. Get thee to B&M!

They were £18 for a 1kg bag in Waitrose 🫸🏻 No thanks!

Wisperley · 16/02/2026 20:04

They're not as nice as they used to be.

I had some the other day, and they didn't taste like I remembered. For a start, the shell wasn't crispy, and for £1.80 for a little bag, I won't be having them again.

madaboutpurple · 16/02/2026 20:16

Lidl do their own bag,and probably Aldi as well. I agree with another post that M&S mini choc eggs are tasty.

Christ. God forbid anyone wanting a small pleasure in life for a reasonable price 😭
