Sorry, but £5 for a mediocre sized bag in my local co-op. AIBU?

Please accept my sincere apologies 😳

Thou hast repented but as a forfeit, you are denied chocolate mini eggs for a period of 12-months.
You are therefore banished to the baking isle and must buy cooking chocolate instead (and good luck with that!).😁

Don’t start me on a box of malteasers £6.90 reduced to a fiver. Say what now

halfpasteleven · 16/02/2026 21:40

I’d love some maltesers now….

"Some"? Typical wealthy mumsnetter

@B1anche

Will you stop this total nonsense and apologise for what you’ve said! Gosh what horror, of course they are absolutely essential!

I buy mine in 1kg bags. Soon to be larger bags thanks to the wonderful tip above

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/02/2026 22:33

13 Malteasers in a bag that cost £1.80

Daylight robbery. The cost of Malteasers is one of my pet peeves. They’re about 10% chocolate so why so expensive? At least mini eggs are a solid chunk of chocolate.

Please all forgive me. Is it too late to have my post removed? I've been cutting down on sugary snacks lately in an attempt to lose a few pounds, so feel particularly grumpy. I acknowledge my error and promise to never utter such inflammatory words again.

ParisianLady · 16/02/2026 22:45

@B1anche

Your humble apology is accepted, I’m glad you have seen the error of your ways.

Let your post remain as a reminder to others that slip into such sinful behaviour!

I too am on a no sugar phase. I buy the 1kg bags and have hidden them so I can indulge one day, and the kids will never know where I hide them 😄

Bertiebiscuit · 16/02/2026 22:46

Yes, i think Cadburys have gone to the dogs, I grew up on their chocolate and used to love their milk chocolate but can't say i really like it any more.

ImPamDoove · 16/02/2026 22:49

They are more than 2/3 sugar. I can’t help but feel they should be expensive or at least have better labelling.

PagesAndTea · 16/02/2026 22:52

I haven’t bought any because the price of the them is ridiculous. I did almost buy the M&S version the other day, I see someone says they are good so will get some. I am far more partial to a caramel egg - 85p seems reasonable, except when you’re on three a day 😭

FaintingGoats · 16/02/2026 22:55

They’ll be coming for the creme eggs next.

out of interest, does anyone remember when you could collect 5 crème egg wrappers and send away for a poster of Ronan Keating?

TheUsualChaos · 16/02/2026 23:01

Paid £16 in Tesco's for 1kg bag, I hide it away until the Easter holidays and then when it's gone it's gone. Use to make Easter nests etc as well. Figure that although it feels insane at the time spending that on mini eggs, it still works out cheaper than buying multiple small packs. I'm not tempted to buy them as I know I've got the big one stashed away!

TheActualQueen · 16/02/2026 23:11

Cadburys chocolate is disgusting these days !

spiderlight · 16/02/2026 23:20

They're weird this year. Not as chocolatey and they have a sort of coconut aftertaste.

coronafiona · 16/02/2026 23:21

Last year they were 80gram bags and this year they are 74 grams too. And the price has gone up!! It’s a total liberty!

TheYearofMagicalThinking · 16/02/2026 19:06

That's not the point. The point is that they shouldn't be this expensive. It's just the supermarkets taking the piss. And they wonder why there is a shoplifting epedemic. I'm not saying it's right to steal, of course, but sometimes it is understandable.

No it's not 'understandable' chocolate is not a necessity.

In what world is this?!

Chocolate cheers everyone up. Don’t be such a fun sucker.

Ronan Keating!😁 l don’t remember this😁

smallsilvercloud · 17/02/2026 09:24

It’s disappointing at £5 I won’t be buying them, might give the m&s ones a try.

Anxietyspiral · 17/02/2026 09:24

All the 'Big Chocolate' classics have been going downhill for years now. Shrinkflation, palm oil, eye watering prices, and weird recipe changes have made them unpalatable.

Aldi sea salt chocolate is delicious.

Ponoka7 · 17/02/2026 09:25

We should never have had cheap chocolate or coffee. Unfortunately the rise in prices, as usual, isn't benefitting the workers, or the regions we get our chocolate from. The children who harvest for the production of mini eggs don't even get 75p a day.

CinnamonBuns67 · 17/02/2026 09:59

I'm more upset that I've spent the money on them for them to have an absolute rank texture this year. They do cost alot for what it is though, I paid it because they are my favorite easter treat but I won't be buying them anymore because they're not very nice now.
