Was reading another thread and soneone made this point.

Is it because Hamas is funded by Iran and is the de facto government of Gaza?

Thanks for sharing.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the people who have given a wide range of reasons why some conflicts/problems/causes gain more interest than others.

I think it divides into two camps.

  1. people who are concerned about what has happened in Gaza but are dont hate israel just for being israel
  2. people who hate israel and see it as some uniquely evil entity

With the first, most would also express cocnern over iran but might not take the same action given the uk govt is against the regime too. Plus recognising that israel is a democracy and does care what the world thinks.

The second group see nothing but palestine, nothing else matters. And they will jump through any hoop to find a way to support this murderous evil iranian regime as they are the only ones to 'stand up" to israel. Even to the point of denying the extent.of the massacres and taking the regimes ridiuclous explanation that it was all mossad and cia.

Their actions are equally abhorrent. Yes, I find the mass killing of innocent civilians abhorrent, no matter who is doing the killing, who the victims are, or what the "justification" is.

Except there is a world of difference between civilians killed during a war - even if more could have been done to minimise or avoid those deaths - and a government gunning down its own unarmed civilians in the streets of its towns and cities to hold on to power.

Israel are not trying to avoid civilian deaths though. They have sought to wreak maximum casualties at every turn. They have double tapped hospitals, murdered paramedics, issued orders for people to move to "safe zones" and murdered them on the way.

I cannot even with this fucking bullshit anymore. How anyone with eyes and a conscience can look at a fucking genocide and make excuses for it is beyond my comprehension. Over the past 2.5 years I have completely lost faith in humanity. I am truly disgusted.

If you look at the comparative numbers of combatants vs non-combatants amongst the dead, the stats speak for themselves.

The abuse of the word 'genocide' is outrageous, frankly, It's deliberately chosen to goad Jewish people who were, only just over 80 years ago, the victims of the genocide that resulted in the term being coined. To use the word 'genocide' of vicious urban warfare in Gaza (which Hamas could have ended at any time), with c 70k dead in two years is completely disingenuous - particularly when most of those dead (given Hamas's stats for widows and orphans pensions) were combatants.

And @Frequency to talk about mass starvation when we know that Hamas was raiding food aid and then selling it on... Who exactly might be to blame?

Every single person who chooses to let Hamas off the hook and monster Israel instead bears responsibility for the rise in antisemitism in the past couple of years. The dead Jews in Manchester and on Bondi beach...They'd probably be alive if the reporting and the thinking on this topic had been more even-handed.

And this thread was meant to be about Iran - but as I said upthread, No Jews, no news....

To be pedantic, the man who coined the term was first interested in (and used it towards)
the Armenian genocide.

^This.

70,000 dead and 170,000 injured, from a military with one of the world's most elite intelligence forces, is not an accident. Nor is mass starvation.

I have no issue with the Jewish people or the Israeli people; I don't even blame the Israeli people who support the actions of their government, but what the Israeli government is doing in Palestine is genocide. There is no justification for genocide.

This is nonsense. There was no mass starvation - that is just categorially untrue. And many many more would gave been killed if Israel hadn't deliberately taken steps to avoid mass casualties. You seem to have no understanding of the environment in Gaza.
