What does this star symbol mean in his garden?

I cant take a photo because the owner sits in the bay window staring at people. I cant find an image online.

A man has renovated his front yard. He has paved it all. In the middle of the pavers is a star symbol. Sort of like this picture but maybe with a different number of points.

Below the star is a series of symbols. Maybe 5. Some of them look like bits cut off the star eg the top point but others dont. It looks especially made.

As far as I'm aware it doesnt relate to anything local.

What does it mean? 🤣 If it's an elaborate prank to frustrate passer-bys, it's working!

It’s a compass, surely?

It’s a compass, surely?

I dont think so. If it is, what are the smaller symbols below it?

Sundial?

Stuckstuckstuckfuck · 15/02/2026 18:09

Also, I dont think it has the right number of points for a compass.

There is a strong fishing history here so nautical wouldnt be completely out there.

Sundial?

It's flat with nothing to make a shadow.
How would the symbols relate to it?

my mum has one a bit like this - it's a compass. (it shows NSEW and the inbetween ones)

TheGoldenApplesOfTheSun · 15/02/2026 18:13

He's clearly a wizard.

HappyToSmile · 15/02/2026 18:14

You need to get a photo or draw us what the other symbols are, because this definitely looks like a compass. If it has more "points", they could be NNE etc..

Coffeetimes3 · 15/02/2026 18:14

If you Google compass pavers you'll see it could definitely be a compass. Other than that does it have to mean anything? Maybe he just likes how it looks?

Clementine12 · 15/02/2026 18:15

Have you Google images nautical compass? Looks like that to me. With I assume some other nautical symbols? Do you know this person? Could you strike up a conversation and ask?

NotTheMrMenAgain · 15/02/2026 18:15

I think it’s just a nice decorative pattern he likes, perhaps it has a nautical theme - certainly looks it. Why, does it bother you in some way? I mean, I don’t think it signifies he’s a worshipper of Satan or anything. Are you worried you’ll glance out of the window and spot him naked, sacrificing chickens at the centre of the star at midnight, or something?

PineappleMelon · 15/02/2026 18:15

Ask him? If he’s always sat looking out he might like a chat.

MargeryBargery · 15/02/2026 18:17

I live by the sea.
Strong fishing community.
There's a few like that around here.

It's a nautical compass.

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 15/02/2026 18:17

Devil worshipper. They're big on decorative paving.

Nourishinghandcream · 15/02/2026 18:19

It is a compass.
Have you checked if it aligns correctly?
The intermediate points are NE, SE,
SW & NW.

Did wonder if it was NATO but a quick check confirmed that symbol does not have the intermediate points.

Stuckstuckstuckfuck · 15/02/2026 18:21

I think I've emphasised the wrong thing. It's the symbols under it that are more curious than the star although clearly related. Thinking about it, I think it's a 5 pointed star so not obviously nautical.

It's a row of 5 or 6 symbols. Some of them look like bits of the star eg as if the top point had been cut off, or it was cut in half. Others are unrelated things like a triangle.

It obviously means sonething and I'm curious what.

Try offering him a goat to be sacrificed and see how he reacts.

Stuckstuckstuckfuck · 15/02/2026 18:24

All the devil worshipping jokes are so hilarious and unexpected.

Edited

If it's definitely 5 it may be "esoteric" symbolism of the five elements, the fifth being love or spirit.

Can you do a drawing ? 😊

raspberets · 15/02/2026 18:27

If it’s a five pointed star it’s a pentagram.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 15/02/2026 18:29

Pentagrams are often misunderstood. Hollywood has given them a bad rap. Looking at you, Mr La Vey 😂

custardlover · 15/02/2026 18:30

Just draw it

Thingsthatgo · 15/02/2026 18:31

Can you do a diagram?

C152 · 15/02/2026 18:36

Masonic symbol?
