Horrible

Not even saved by quality butter and peanut butter

Does everyone toast their HCBs like I do, or do most people eat them “raw”?

They need toasting for the butter to melt into them.

Best way is to give them 5 mins in a hot oven so they’re warm but still soft inside. Split then lavishly butter them. But I only do it like this on Easter morning as it’s a bit of a faff.

Usually split them in half and toast them, then lavishly butter them (extra wide slot toaster to allow this to happen without disaster, and wooden toaster tongs to extract them).

But if I’m treating them as emergency snack to take out and about, I’ll butter them if I’ve got time and eat them cold, or just munch on it whole like a bun. Delicious all ways.

If you hate sultanas currents and raisins you basically hate hot cross buns !

I like the taste of the spices in the buns. There's something about the texture of sultanas etc. that I don't like

I think Iceland is great.

Chocolate hot cross buns are all kinds of wrong though and it's not even Lent yet.

Correct. Hot cross buns should be the traditional kind only and never mucked about with.

Coop ones are fabulous

Co Op. They do a wide variety of flavours (you have been warned).

Thank you muchly, I fear an expedition is going to occur some time in the near future. We did have a Co-Op very near but it's been subject to one of those episodes of rapidly changing transitions where it doesn't know what it should be and is currently a Cost Cutter. (There was much discussion and heated debate about this in a typical small village style. I preferred the Co-Op myself, so officially disgruntled. I bet they don't have HCB in any format either.)
