To think male nursery workers should be banned for safety reasons?

I KNOW most men who work in them are fine but sexual abuse in nurseries is overwhelmingly committed by men. No more men, much less abuse risk.
Yes we need more CCTV etc to watch bad women but it cuts SA risk immeasurably.

We can still have male primary teachers etc kids are old enough to speak up then.

And yes, you can ban on the basis of sex for safety reasons. In women's refuges, eg.

And eliminate positive male role models from the lives of a large number of under 5s?

Yes if it reduces risk of SA

Let's ban leaving dads, grandads and uncles being alone with children. Many more of them sexually abuse than nursery workers. Let's keep all the women either in the home or in minimum wage caring jobs in case a man takes advantage.

It's about reducing risk where possible

There's do many cases of care workers sexually abusing vulnerable elderly. I think there is a strong case for that actually, especially for people with dementia.

'The problem of men using care careers in order to access and rape vulnerable women is so widespread that the Westminster government recognises it specifically in sexual offences legislation. '

So if we ban men from working in nurseries and in the care sector do we also give up on the gender pay gap?

We accept that in two large and low paid sectors only women are allowed to work so men will naturally on average earn more money.

I can't comment on schools but clearly the safeguarding policies in nurseries are not working that well if Vincent Chan & others were able to abuse without being caught by cameras or prevented by rules meaning no child is changed alone.

I'm also doubtful of how far a DBS check can weed out abusers.

I remember picking my daughter up from Nursery and being told that I could use that chair over there to Breastfeed her sister because that way I wouldn’t be on camera they shouldn’t know where the cameras are. And actually, they’re smart enough for these days to be able to put a camera in the baby changing room and have a square drawn out on the changing mat that you must put the child within the square and that would be blacked out on camera
But you could gauge from the person’s reactions and movements and specifically how quickly it’s taking place as to whether it’s a nappy change or something else

Ban all humans then. Would that make you happy? The babies can run the nursery.

I think morally and practically both of those sectors need some kind of wage increase & higher value. It's very hard as obviously we don't want people to be bankrupted by fees either...

But otoh it's completely wrong that caring for the most vulnerable in society is seen as a low-paid, low-skilled job. Wrong for the workers, wrong for babies, wrong for elderly. The government needs to do something.

Moreover, if the wages & value stay low, how will that improve the gender pay gap? If that happens, it will probably remain mostly female. Low wages & value are unlikely to attract more men into childcare.

Good point, that's worrying it could be subverted.

No of course not. You're being ridiculous now.
