I might take dd to the cinema to see and then to Nando’s and to a bakery for a cupcake. Will need to find a flower shop to buy her one red rose

I hate that it’s on a Saturday, I really don’t wanna see young teens out on dates while I’m chronically single 😂

will you do anything? No judgement if not, it’s just me and dd so I like to do this stuff

plus, when someone’s son decides to take her out when she’s older, she won’t be thrilled by literally the bare minimum!!

edit to see either Gaby’s dolls house, zootropolis 2 or The Goat (kids cartoon) - not sure which 🤷‍♀️

Perhaps a love heart shaped cookie to enjoy with a cup of tea certainly won't be going overboard.

Growuppeople · 11/02/2026 21:08

i just feel sad for you! Who even cares about valentines days unless you’re 12! Good god! think I live in a different planet to most these days 🙄

Omg hinge. Tried that once , lasted 5 ,minutes!!

TheFormidableMrsC · 11/02/2026 21:10

I’ve never done anything for my kids for Valentine’s Day. That’s just weird.

I always give each of my DC a little card telling them one particular thing I love about them…always something they may not think to love about themselves. It gives them a little boost!

And a little sweet treat too…chocolate hearts or a cupcake or a cookie or something!

I love that, ‘one thing I love about them’ xx

I’m 45. My mum still gets me and my sisters chocolates and a fun card.

No. couple thing. (I'm 50!)

Babysit for DS, so he and DDIL can go out! They don’t ask us to babysit for them very often. DH and I are going out for dinner with some friends tomorrow night, so we won’t feel the need to go out again two nights later!

Peridoteage · 11/02/2026 21:12

Nothing lol? Dh and i don't bother with valentines day. I want to be appreciated every day not just on 14th feb & he doesn't need to spend money to do it.

KevinsSignatureShortdeads · 11/02/2026 21:12

I’m also in the tragic camp and get my children a card each (usually a jokey tongue in cheek one), some M&S chocs and I’ll buy some novelty heart-shaped pancakes / waffles etc. It’s harmless fun that boosts an otherwise dreary February morning.

Lllma · 11/02/2026 21:13

Going to be leaving them
and enjoying a nice weekend away with my oh

I've got some tatt from the pound shop to decorate the table.. love heart napkins etc and usually get them something like a tiny box of chocolates or something silly and write a little love note for them 🥰
Any excuse to spark some joy.. why are people so against things like this?
Have a lovely day, OP.

Love this idea I’m stealing it!

wakeboarder · 11/02/2026 21:16

In Norfolk there is a tradition where Jack Valentine visits and leaves a small gift for children. A parent or other adult knocks on the front door (and then rushes round the house unnoticed and re-enters at the back door) when the children answer the door there is a small gift on the doorstep. I always remember one of my step children saying one year "we knew it was Nanny as saw her running down the road with her hat" Nearly as devastated as finding out about the non existence of the tooth fairy or Father Christmas!

I think it was ops comment that tarnished the thoughtfulness....
plus, when someone’s son decides to take her out when she’s older, she won’t be thrilled by literally the bare minimum!!

That is a very judgy comment. Who cares if people do the bare minimum? A woman's love language may not be gifts or quality time. It is ridiculous to think valentine's day has to set a bar.

The bare minimum depends on the person

but for me it’s not making an effort for the one you love

I’m actually meeting my son for lunch.

it was going to be dinner but I’d forgotten that t was Valentine’s Day and the bloody prices!

GingerKombucha · 11/02/2026 21:18

I fully agree Valentine's Day is marketing nonsense and there is no need to do anything for kids. But I'm so sick of the rain and dark so we're having a party - I've ordered red balloons, we're making a red velvet cake and will cover it in candles we'll all blow out. There will be steak and chips and music because I need something fun to happen this weekend. There will also be heart shaped pancakes and red berries for breakfast. Again because February is bloody grim.

Queenoftartts · 11/02/2026 21:18

Nothing just a normal Saturday for us it’s a Saturday so we might go to the pictures.

PeloMom · 11/02/2026 21:18

Nope. We do plenty as is.

Ahh that's nice. Used to get a box of Lindor and share between my two. But that was all I could afford, special treat.

grumpygrape · 11/02/2026 21:21

I’m old, a traditionalist, and I’m sure to many, boring, but to me this taking away from the meaning of the day/celebration (although I do acknowledge Jack Valentine in Norfolk).

Likewise, I’ve never got my head round the concept of giving the non-Birthday child a present. No, it’s not YOUR day; you will have your day on your birthday.

There are plenty of days to tell people who you aren’t in a romantic relationship with that you love them but why can’t we keep special days, special ?

Just because schools latch on to the idea of children making cards for their parents, mostly mothers, doesn’t make the day special for anyone other than sweethearts.

Consider me influenced

£8 something in Argos 😂

My husband gifted me Tweedy Pie Lego and 4 sets of Lego Flowers 😍😍😍
Last year we were coming back from our honeymoon and I was gifted Beats Headphones. The bizarre part is he never really bothered the first 8 valentines we had together. Apparently being married now means I get spoilt.

Fizbosshoes · 11/02/2026 21:22

Ive never heard of doing stuff with your kids for valentines, im actually going to a party with DH and leaving DS at home.
But i cant see why OP would be unreasonable to take her DD out for a treat!
