To be confused by 'high earners' complaining about taxes?

tutuland · 10/02/2026 18:25

So high earners pay lots of tax. The top 20% pay for 70% or whatever the numbers are.

But (beyond printing more money) isn't the money there high income people make just coming from the paying public? No matter who you work for, your company's profit is just an accumulation of normal people paying for things.

So ultimately, isn't it all our money anyway? Just beacuse the game is rigged and you get paid 400K for management whatever, it doesn't mean you're more deserving of that money than anyone.

London and Partners is not 'slop', it's a growth agency that works with the Mayor of London.

The key points are:

  • Half of start-ups are not paying the correct amount of tax
  • Many start-ups use legal means to lower their tax bill
  • Some are engaging in aggressive strategies and tax evasion, such as:
  • Profit Shifting - transferring profits to lower-tax jurisdictions.
  • Artificially declaring insolvency to avoid paying tax debts then reforming as the same company
  • Under declaring income

The question is how are you managing your tax payments? How do you ensure that you are not one of the start-ups avoiding tax?

You're trying to argue against the point that this post makes by making it about me. Even if I had my money in a tax haven, its doesn't mean my point is not valid.

It's pathetic that you think you're being clever. And the insidiousness of your mannerisms really makes my skin crawl.

The older I get and the way things seem to be going, I'm sure some people seem to think that those that work hard at school, graft and get a good job, shouldn't expect to have a lifestyle vastly different to those that don't. It should be worlds apart but it is getting less and less so. Be a lazy so and so but don't worry, those that work will prop your lifestyle up. I wish we could scrap the word 'free'. Someone, somewhere is paying for it - be it breakfast clubs, school meals etc.

What is slop is what you've copy pasted from chatgpt.

It was a Google AI summary of the article, I also posted the link.

It’s bizarre that as someone who runs a fin tech startup-up that you haven’t got to grips with the use of AI yet.

It’s very telling how defensive and enraged you get when asked about your own potential tax pitfalls.

I can just picture you sputtering with rage.

Do you think tax is just something salaried people should pay?

Oh no, I'm not enraged at all. I was finding you amusing but now its getting tedious if anything. I just don't want to help you understand difficult things by answering your questions. I'm sure you can find the answers you need on the internet xxx

They're all LLM and use the same mechanisms.

So you googled a response to what I said, and then pasted the AI response for me to read? You couldn't even condense your cheat sheet- so you presented me with a wall of text.

If you cant be bothered to think your own thoughts and structure them into sentences I don't want to engage with you.

Still watching this thread, that comment was nonsense. I think you DO know about AI and that's exactly why you didn't trust it! Honestly I despair at some people who are so loudly wrong

Why do you keep ignoring the linked article?

I've also summarised the contents in bullets for you but you clearly are unwilling to answer anything, which makes me think the fin tech start up doesn't actually exist.

You don't even understand how to run your own business so why would anyone expect you to explain anything?

You can't even answer basic questions about your business.

VAT is one part of the system. Income tax and National Insurance raise significantly more revenue. Ignoring them while claiming to discuss the ‘big picture’ is disingenuous.

The top 10% of income tax payers contribute around 60% of all income tax. The proportion of indirect tax a low earners pays is higher relative to their salary but they do not pay not pay more tax overall.

I never said they pay more tax overall, I’ve been explaining that they pay more proportionally. Perhaps you were misreading my comments which explains why we’ve been going around in circles.

Your original comment was “I have to pay more than double the amount proportionally that lower income workers pay?”

That’s what I’ve been arguing against. I’m glad to see that you’re no longer claiming this.

Yes and the irony is that posters on this thread who have been arguing this have simultaneously been arguing that they as high earners should be entitled to benefits. So simultaneously complaining about taxation whilst calling for far greater expenditure on benefits. They don’t want people poorer than them to be propped up. But they would like high earners to be propped up.

Calm down, I'm not 'afraid' of AI

I think it is appropriate for identifying trends in large data, for example. However I don't think it's a good source for learning information, for example summarising articles. It doesn't use logic; it's a language prediction algorithm, so often inaccurate. I prefer to use my own brain. Especially when trying to argue a point to someone.

This trump gotcha way of speaking is not a substitute for a lucid thought. Neither is AI.

Have you seen any of the congressional hearing in America this week? They think they're being quick witted, but they cant even see how remarkably stupid they come across.

I've learned some compelling things from some posters who've disagreed with me on this thread, but not this poster...

The irony of calling posters stupid and then accusing them of bullying you seems to escape you.

You also think it's fine for you to have a tax haven but still judge others for not wanting to pay ever increasing tax. Your views are harmful and need to be called out.

Don’t you think the European model, where workers get higher benefits when they for whatever reason cannot work (redundancy, sickness) to reflect the tax that they have paid in is a much better system than the current one where they get the same as the workshy? How about we motivate people to work by incentivising it? Showing that it pays off? Because we’re certainly not managing to incentivise people to work with our current strategy.

It's interesting how mainland Europe has experimented with their models, and come up with these variations. I would assume it would take a while to establish, and the current climate would only make this harder.
