Is Keir Starmer a misogynist?

Bertiebiscuit · 09/02/2026 13:30

Starmer seems endlessly surprised that anyone cares about girls being preyed on by grooming gangs, or women and girls being trafficked for sex by Epstein. He is the classic Lefty male for whom women's issues are always "jam tomorrow", who can't even bring himself to admit he knows what a woman even is, despite being married to one,the mother of his children.

These are very old. None of them are Starmer’s. The Tories put in just as much legislation that benefited women and girls.

Some old, some not so old, all within my lifetime and all made a transformative difference to womens lives then and every day since.

I'd be very interested to see the Tory list if you could provide one.

I have a feeling that much of this was achieved by Labour women tbh

Huge input and leadership from women undoubtedly. Thank God for them and for the men and women who pushed them through.

I’ll give you one. You can research the rest yourself.

Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992.

Why do you think he's surprised that people careOP? He doesn't sound surprised here.

Directly addressing Epstein's victims, (Starmer) said: "I am sorry, sorry for what was done to you, sorry that so many people with power failed you. Sorry for having believed Mandelson's lies and appointed him and sorry that even now you're forced to watch this story unfold in public once again."https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cp37v4kyv3eo

Ah, now he considers Epstein's victims, funny he didn't consider them before he appointed Mandelson to the plum job of UK Ambassador to Washington in the full knowledge that Mandelson had continued his relationship with Epstein AFTER Epstein was convicted.

Strange how a very capable and well respected woman, a woman who has never been sacked from a job let alone twice as Mandelson has and who had zero connection ever with Epstein unlike Mandeslon, was removed from her post in favour of Mandelson by Starmer. Yes, I'd say he has a problem with women unless of course they are those special 'women' (MEN) with penises.

ginasevern · 09/02/2026 16:03

Weren't the grooming gangs mostly under the Tories' watch. Ditto the rise of trans ideology. I didn't see them doing much (if anything) about any of it. I don't think Keir Starmer can be singled out for misogyny any more than any other male politican you care to name.

Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992.

One very good example.

MandingoAteMyBaby · 09/02/2026 16:06

After years / decades of Conservative inaction, Starmer has launched an inquiry into grooming gangs. It is headed by an all-female leadership team.

The Epstein files had some fascinating emails on the trans topic. How pitiful and ugly 'transmen' were (ie butch women) but how fragrant and feminine and attractive transwomen were and what great careers they could have in the sex industry. It certainly helped clarify some of the motivations and misogyny behind it.

He tried to nobble it!

Nope, he set it up. Labour MPs voted against the Conservative amendment because it would have derailed the Children’s Wellbeing And Schools act the Conservatives cynically attached it to and secondly, because the national audit - already in progress - wasn’t complete at the time.

Starmer set up an inquiry when the audit was completed.

JoyOfSpecs · 09/02/2026 16:04

One very good example.

Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994 which made marital rape illegal, following the precedent set in 1991.

Absolute bollocks.

Starmer resisted and sent his ministers - notably Jess Phillips - out to argue against. He caved in the end.

KTheGrey · 09/02/2026 17:29

I don’t think he believes he is. But he has the self-knowledge of a stick of broccoli.

And what they argued was “not now, not this way” - entirely consistent with what I wrote above.

Not shoehorned onto another priority and not before the end of the audit. Evidence-led
governance.

stringseleven · 09/02/2026 19:06

He will always be the PM who failed to act to get to the bottom of the horrific rape gang operations here in the UK. He apologised to Epstein's victims this week, but still, in the UK, he is unable / unwilling to conduct an enquiry into what happened so that it never happens again. Yes - I think this labour government has failed women again and again.

Before the tribal politics gaslighters come in and comment on who else was to blame or compare to previous governments, shame on you overlooking this gross neglect of duty. This is about what is right and what is decent. He is the person elected to be in charge right now and he has failed these poor young people. I don't believe he is a decent person anymore. I used to. But let's just think back to the Lord Ali donations, the faffing about with gender, the failure to vet illegal immigrants coming into this country and not even meeting with concerned families in towns were crimes have been committed by unvetted men placed in hotels within communities. Add to that the appointment of Mandelson who had been sacked twice previously and who he knew had a connection with Epstein. And his head-in-the-sand approach to the grooming gangs operating right here in the UK. .... how can anyone possibly defend him? Evidence-led governance? I'd settle for governance.

He. Has. Started. An. Inquiry.

Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs

Information about the establishment of the Independent Inquiry into Grooming Gangs announced by the Home Secretary on 9 December 2025.

stringseleven · 09/02/2026 19:25

He was pressured into calling for an enquiry in June 2025. It wasn't formally established until December 2025. Survivors who had agreed to be on the panel, and were therefore aware of how it was developing, have dropped out and publicly said that this will be a coverup, that there is no appetite to actually get to the bottom of what happened. If he wanted to, he could deal with this tomorrow - he's a fan of the fast-track when it suits him. It doesn't suit him to hold those who were at fault accountable and it doesn't suit him to make sure it doesn't happen again. I don't think that is the behaviour of a decent person elected to the highest public duty in the land.

He started the national audit in January 2025. After that concluded and delivered findings, he agreed to an inquiry in June which was put in motion and ready to kick off in December.

JaneVtwaddle · 09/02/2026 19:46

I'm not sure if he's a misogynist because I'm not sure he actually understands women's issues enough to actively care about them unless it's misogyny by ignorance and apathy.

Rosie duffield made some interesting remarks about the old boys club around him and he was astonished to be challenged.

threescoops · 09/02/2026 19:57

Just look at what Rosie Duffield and Joan Smith have said about this today on x about their experiences. And he tried to prevent an enquiry into the rape gangs (the hundreds of victims abused for years are currently giving harrowing testimony) saying that people asking for it were just jumping on a far right bandwagon. So yes he is

232 days after he caved into pressure it still has no start date set

Gahr · 09/02/2026 20:25

No. Not everything in life is about 'misogyny' FFS. I'm a woman and I'm sick of hearing women whine all the time about how awful men are and how hard done by we are. Change the record.

stringseleven · 09/02/2026 21:22

He's also such a mansplainer premising everything with - "I want to be very clear" and "this is very important". Do all MPs now take voice coaching these days? It gives me the creeps every time he makes a statement - almost like he is talking down to us all because he is somehow more educated and understands things better than the rest of us. I'm not sure to what degree that was designed by Morgan McSweeney - there is basically a massive underestimation of the electorate happening in politics right now.
