To ask for examples of the worst behaviour you've seen from an adult at a wedding?

Attended one yesterday as a bridesmaid. The brides cousin was also a bridesmaid, spent the whole morning clearly aggrieved that the day wasn't about her... smoked in the getting ready suite and had to be told to put it out, then lit up again and claimed she had forgotten when the bride told her and made a snarky comment..then presented her silver converse she had customised to wear with her dress as she "doesn't really do heels"... the bride ignored her and sweetly said "at this point I don't think I can stop you" as she knows what she's like then what do you know, she wears the heels! There were loads of instances like this all day and she is 28 but seemed to want to just be am inconvenience all day which I assume was jealousy...even little things like being late for photos and pretending not to hear when called over, pushing the food round her plate, really ungracious behaviour. The wedding was fantastic! She could have really enjoyed it much more. Not really an aibu but whats the worst behaviour youve seen like this?

At my first attempt at getting married my MIL to be declared that she didn't like me and I was only after DH to be for his money
I earned nearly double his wage and had my own house and he had a massive gambling debt that they knew of but had all kept from me
We didn't say "I do"

Sounds like she inadvertently did you a huge favour!

@SabrinaThwaite sorry it wasn't, was the notorious '5th Ave' in Manchester. I remember you used to pay £2 I think to get in, but you'd be given a drinks token on entry which would get you a cheap bottle of beer and a vk lemon and a plastic pint glass so you could start with a power shandy

There was a point when every town and city had at least one club like this, alas nearly all of them have gone.

Friend of the groom whipped his penis out, put it in a bread roll, buttered it and went round the tables offering it to old ladies.

Whaaaat??? Oh my! That’s comically bad. And horrifying.

They were 'the thing' a few years ago, Aldi even sold one I think, you had to assemble it yourself!

They were a staple challenge on the early series of "Bake Off" which is how they got popular in the UK.

You drank too much the night before, you nearly knocked over the bride, you left the church then came back in whilst the service was taking place, you cried through the reception then left it to go to your room, you left your children in other people's care, your ex had to miss his brother's speech to try and stop you being so dramatic, you think your mil's day wasn't affected by your behaviour and you think everyone else apart from you had a lovely day ...oh yeah, you're an absolute peach!

This was one time in my life !
I never said it didn’t affect my children’s grandmothers day .
My children were looked after by their father & grandmother .
This was over 20 years ago !!!!
And yes people did enjoy their day .
You’re just somebody who likes to give out .
Oh & for what it’s worth, My Ex Mil was very disappointed I separated from her son .
I’ve always been asked to every single family function they have had since .
His sister got married for a second time after we had separated ,I was invited because his brothers wedding was out of character for me , & they wanted me there because as I’ve said I AM NICE .
What is it that you called me “ A real Peach “🍑
Yip that’s me 😊

I had one as my 18th Birthday cake. I'm 52 now. It was in Australia though and they were a bit of a fashion back then as i recall.

My twins are 24 now , so no not recent events .
I too thought a light hearted thread , that’s why I wrote in with my story .
As I said I’m not someone who really drinks ever & that’s what led to the disastrous day !
There is always people on every thread who like to be miserable & give out 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Hope you feel better soon pp ☺️

Sorry, was it supposed to a funny story? Less funny for the bride I suppose…unless the rest of the story is how she laughs uproariously every time the story is retold and how it made her day! Not sure how anyone could be described as ‘miserable’ for finding this story anything but cringeworthy 🤷🏼‍♀️ still, we all have different standards I suppose….

Thank you! Flowers
Well we’ve all done daft things but the last thing anyone needs is someone trying to shame them 24 years later!
Id love to know about these people’s blameless lives. Or maybe I wouldn’t? If we want fiction we can pick up a book or watch the soaps.

Oh, he'd have had his reasons. It's just that the wider family have not been informed about it. Maybe the dad didn't even tell his daughter in case the reason was even more upsetting. Maybe he couldn't stand his new son-in-law, but kept his thoughts to himself and his daughter had no idea.

Maybe he has a secret health condition that he hasn't even told his daughter about, never mind the wider family. Or a secret alcohol problem.

Maybe he has severe anxiety and just had to run, and the daughter isn't aware of the extent of it because her dad doesn't want her to know, but he put himself through the main father of the bride duties for her sake.

Maybe his other half had just told him she wanted to split up or regretted marrying him (or whatever other awful revelations could prompt someone to just leave suddenly).

In families, you just never know what's going on in someone's life unless you're living in their home and witnessing the day to day goings on for yourself.

We all knew him. It was totally in character. He just didn't fancy it. He was renowned in the family for being miserable. But no one thought he would actually dip out of his daughter's wedding like that.

Not a problem at the reception and not randy like the other comments but....

My friends from high school were finally getting married. It was great on the lead up to the wedding which was delayed for 2 years because her grandmother and aunts needed to hand embroider the dress as her family was Ukrainian and very traditional. Despite this and getting married in the Eastern Orthodox Church (so very Catholic) it had been agreed that the service would be all in English as the groom wasn't Ukrainian or even Catholic. The priest would do one blessing in Ukrainian and then the standard English ceremony lasting about 15 minutes.

Come the day of the wedding the priest was called away to give last rites to some old boy and a different priest agreed to do the ceremony. Two hours worth of wailing and chanting in Ukrainian and Latin complete with waving incense about. We told our groom friend that we would vouch for him if he wanted an annulment on the basis that he didn't know what was happening throughout the ceremony as apparently the first part was baptising him as a Catholic.

I’m sorry but I am absolutely howling with laughter. I can’t believe they baptised him!!! 😂😂😂😂😂.

This is the best one for me. Brilliant!

My dh's cousin got married and her dad just went home after the meal - no incident of any sort had happened. He just decided to go home. It was a big, formal wedding and everyone was shocked. His cousin was so upset- her dad didn't even tell anyone, just walked out.

Had he made his speech by then ?

Yes. He left after the meal.

Rayburn · 11/02/2026 09:36

Before my time, but a local reluctant groom at a shotgun wedding, opened his speech with: “I’d like to thank you all for coming to this tragic affair.”

It wasn’t funny no , needless to say .
It was a long time ago now , & thankfully it never affected my relationship with anyone involved .
I’m still friends with Ex Sil , we don’t laugh about it obviously.
It’s just never brought up .

I suppose I didn’t expect lots of snidy remarks such as yours , “ still we all have different standards “ , when I wrote in ..
I guess that’s just your personality, you can’t help being you 🤷🏻‍♀️

To be fair, the bizarre sidetracking by a woman taking a dislike to another woman (just from a story on a forum!) is funny in its own way.

FFS give it a rest now . I’m sure the poster telling this story was quite aware she wasn’t covering herself in glory, and actually it was a brave thing to post.

You sound like great fun. Do you still do all those things at parties? 😃

Sadly not I’m old now and after a few glasses I’m in bed by 10

Namingbaba · 11/02/2026 11:05

Before my vows my sister did a little hand tie ceremony with me (bride) and groom. She’d given our dad her phone to video it. There was a miscommunication where she’d already clicked the record button but he didn’t understand and so he clicked it again, turning record off. When she got back to sit beside him she realised it hadn’t recorded and the two started bickering during my vows. At first I tried to ignore it but they kept going on! So I slightly turned and shushed them. Even register looked at them.
Sister apologised afterwards but dad didn’t as he probably didn’t realise that’s not how you behave.
It’s irritating to have that memory as the rest of the day was good. It was just a small ceremony of less than 20. If I were to marry again I’d just elope.
My husband doesn’t remember it. My mum when she brought it up just remembers it as a funny story about them miscommunicating over tech and doesn’t realise it was an issue for me.

To the pp poster who is having second thoughts about opening a wedding venue after reading this thread, definitely replace the high alcohol wines low alcohol and alcohol free versions!

Edited

I sent the link to this thread to DH last night.
He's still sitting in the corner sobbing and shaking😂

Seriously though this was one of two ideas we had to utilise land and outbuildings, the other idea being his but I think I was having romantic ideas of this beautiful setting being perfect for a wedding - which it is - and I won the conversation!!
However I am now reverting to the other plan. Must go and tell him and rescue him from his fear filled state.

I think it's horrifying. I'm sorry - I just think it crosses a line. Par for the course amongst horrible blokes in their own little bubble, but when a man starts exposing himself to women (esp elderly ones, and I expect there were children about) that is not funny in my book. It's indecent exposure, lewd behaviour and verging on a sexual assault.

Sorry - but this one really makes me angry. People stripping off is one thing - but he was actually offering a penis to strangers to touch...eeuuww. Seriously gross, perverted and borderline crimina.

Of course it is horrifying. And it crosses soo many different kinds of lines.

It‘s just so incredibly bad that it seems like a scene from a supposedly funny „comedy“. Hangover-type behaviour…

(offering the penis to touch or „just“ to look at? I didn’t quite get that touch was „on the table“ as well… but offering to look at would be more than worse enough alteady!)

This is one of the things I just don't get about men. They are so fascinated by their penises.

They really are not that interesting. And roughly half of the population have them. No-one else cares.
