Do you think she did it ? Watched the documentary and I’m not sure she should have been convicted

It seems that Lucy Letby waived privilege over defence files back in December, at the request of the CCRC. Perhaps this will reassure people who worried that Mark McDonald might not know enough about her case. Good to see them being transparent (I presume with her permission)

Interesting that they released a statement about what they received and when, I didn't think they would, but glad to see it.

It certainly feels quite pointed.

Are you suggesting the CCRC is releasing information in order to negatively influence perspection of Lucy Letby or her legal representatives? That would be quite extraordinary (and obviously highly inappropriate).

I think they’re pretty cheesed off by the narrative being spun in the media by her legal representatives so they are publicly setting them straight.

I don't think her legal representatives have criticised them? I think they are more likely feeling pressured over their past delays and failings, and reacting to (unsurprising) public and media assumptions.

The preliminary application went to the CCRC the day before the press conference, with the experts' first summary report. No reason not to get started them. That was public knowledge at the time.

I mean the MM show in Birmingham.

You mean when he was televised at the CCRC office in Birmingham? That was when he delivered the full reports (International Panel, UK experts, insulin) in April, not the first summary report from the International Panel in February.

Yes this was 3rd April. I think liz Hull even questioned him. But it was actually submitted 31st March.

Why? A media circus.

Oh I see. Yes, I'm sure there would also have been electronic copies. Obviously bringing paper copies with advance notice to the press was partly for media interest, as he said at the time. Can't really watch someone sending an email.

Don't agree with the media circus and I think it shows his true colours. He had already had his press conference. There was no need it's punishing the parents even more.

Likes the limelight does MM.

I don’t think even MM is stupid enough to overtly criticise them, but he has certainly been talking all over the shop about how his media circus is justified because it builds public awareness and therefore puts pressure on the system.

And sorry but no one is going to persuade me that this bit is anything other than downright snippy 💅🏼😂

15 August 2025 Further expert report received on a new topic (no submissions received)
2 September 2025 Advised that further submissions would follow on the last expert report and on an additional new topic
8 October 2025 Further submissions received (but not on either of the topics referred to on 2 September)

Pretty unprofessional of the CCRC if so, but I don't have strong opinions on their media strategy, so I'll just say as previously, that adding information incrementally is normal and that this case has seen developments (re Dr Bohin, Dr Evans and police leaks) since the application was opened. So, odd behaviour if we are meant to read it as a criticism of McDonald, or anyone, but I'm not too concerned. The information on the waiver was more interesting. It's hard to be too interested in the topics etc without knowing what they were.

He's explained his strategy - getting media attention to counteract police propaganda and tabloid rumours (though he put it more politely to Liz Hull!)

Lots of people seem to appreciate it; others, like you, not. How much it has done to bring further experts and witnesses forward and to encourage the leaks we've seen from police and hospital, we will never be in a position to know.

SpringTimeIsRingTime · 13/02/2026 22:36

Netflix is for entertainment first and foremost.
It is not a serious documentary and opinions based on it are based on a vehicle designed for entertainment and ratings.
They choose what evidence to focus on for the show and what evidence to leave out.

Doesn't really read as snippy to me, it might suggest it's a bit chaotic but that's not necessarily judgement of her legal team but recognition that it's a unique case in some ways because more and more people seem to be getting on board with her defence at different stages so there's lots of things on the go at once.

EyeLevelStick · 14/02/2026 07:18

I read it more as “stuff is still coming in, we don’t know whether there’s more to come, don’t expect anything from us soon because we’re still working through it all”.

I don't know much about MM but if LL is innocent then she is as much a victim as the parents are and it's his job to fight her case so he can't let concern for the parents stop him following what he believes to be the most effective strategy to have the case re-examined.

If a witch hunt and scapegoating can be proven then I hope all the people involved in destroying a young woman's life and adding to the distress of the bereaved parents will be held accountable.

The issue is though, what would it take to prove her guilt to those who have doubts, if she is to be retried, given the evidence cureently available? I believe there is a third retrial in question?

To prove her guilty beyond reasonable doubt they first need to prove that the babies were murdered, and then that she did it. If you don’t know why people believe those things aren’t currently the case, there is plenty of reading material easily accessible.

Evidence of murders or deliberate harm, and when we have that, evidence that Letby was responsible.

Let’s start with evidence of murders or deliberate harm. What is there that hasn’t been discredited?

So in the eyes of some people LL, should be set free? I wouldn't think there was any evidence that they haven't already used?
It is a very grey area, and a chilling thought of a potential serial killer being released. I feel the evidence all together is more incriminating than the other way, although I only see what I hear, and I'm sure that is just a mere snap shot.

Cases like this show that they need security cameras in SCBUs. My dcs were in there, so this story particularly resonated with me; I cannot imagine what the families are going through.

Edited

It's not a greyer area for me, if they can't prove that crimes were definitely committed and that this person definitely did it then they shouldn't be locked up. The standard for evidence shouldn't change.
