...to think Angela Rayner needs to wind her neck in?

Why is a FORMER deputy, who was binned in disgrace for being VERY NAUGHTY potentially in line to oust Keir Starmer as big boss?

I'd have sacked her completely, not just as deputy leader, for her prior misconduct. Surely the Labour party can't support ousting their leader and replacing him with a proven wrong'un? Is there nobody else decent? Has she no shame?

Fucking snakes, the lot of them. I thought we'd seen the back of that sort of barefaced bullshit with the downfall of boris.

This thread is awful. I know Angela well and like her a lot.
What’s up ladies? Did the teenager mum get above her station - and achieve much more than you could ever hope to? lol.

GasPanic · 06/02/2026 12:52

Not convinced Rayner can be the next PM.

Her politics are a lot different I think from Starmers, so the argument that she has no mandate has that much more weight.

The problem is great candidates aren't exactly queuing up.

Ok, I’ll swim against the tide.
I like Angela Rayner. I like her politics and I admire her as a working class woman who has battled her way up.
I want politicians who understand what real life is like for the majority of people, not Eton elites.
I think the issue with her tax has been overblown, many people have not fully grasped the complex circumstances and have simply decided it must be part of the widespread tax dodging we had become accustomed to, most particularly from the tory party and from the super rich in general.
I also think the old boys network and men in general delight at being able to squash someone who is not part of their club and there has therefore been huge power pitted against her.

I agree!

HRTQueen · 06/02/2026 12:56

Capillaryaction · 06/02/2026 09:46

I'm with sweetiedarling7
She was ADVISED to do that transaction by her financial advisor.
Then taken apart for it by the media, despite the fact the Tory financial violations (or Jeremy Hunt) were much worse.

She is a working class real woman, not a spoilt elite public school Tory-boy, and the papers took her down unfairly.
I think she has great leadership skill and was bullied out.

You have missed out the part where she was advised TWICE to gain further advice from a tax expert. She choose not to, maybe she didn't want to pay out for this who knows, but given her situation is complex and that she herself has very much built her career and reputation of rightly called out MP's and wealthy people who do not pay the correct tax/use tax schemes to their advantage she choose not to follow advice where she may of ended up paying more herself.

Of course the press called her out, we know she has been targeted by certain areas of the press but in this case she was a gift to the right wing press. She was rightly called out for hypocrisy

No doubt she will run for leadership, and no doubt once again the left of the Labour party will do their best to keep Labour back in opposition. Same old story they never learn

She is absolutely not PM material, hard working and ambitious yes, can hold her self in a debate or under scrutiny no. Being a northern working class woman has helped her rise in politics not held her back, she rose through the ranks very quickly when there are far more competent MP's around

She hides her good qualities well then. She seems to have been promoted well past her level of incompetence, probably to keep the far left unionists on side rather than her grasp of current issues and political skill.

As for your dig at the achievements of the rest of us - I have managed to get through life paying my taxes on time in full (not dodging it twice) , not been found to be a raging hypocrite, not using my powerful voice to support the decimation of women’s rights and have never called my work colleagues ’scum’, or been photographed vaping in my keks in a rubber dinghy.

In your opinion. I’ll base mine in the reality of what I see and know.

give us a shout when you’re deputy prime minister.

@Sweetiedarling7 The great difficulty with politicians isn’t what you describe. The big problem is they absolutely understand noisy constituents. They bow to them far too much.

What they do not understand is what to do about the issues they see other than expect more taxes to be paid. They don’t understand basic economics and certainly don’t understand how to run a company. They only listen to their own types and simply don’t have the intelligence to come up with the necessary policies. Rayner had some ideas about left wing policies which went against employers. They had to change but she didn’t see that in the first place. Therefore, she would be useless as PM. No critical thinking. Just noisy rhetoric! Not good enough to lead.

Buys an expensive house that she didn’t really need?
Are you aware of the complex situation with her disabled son and the trust set up for him?
This wasn’t your bog standard heated stables and duck house scenario.

But didn't he live in the north west and her and her husband live there alternatively...plus that house is in her constituency. The FLAT she bought was in hove, Sussex. Plus she had a house in London provided by us the tax payers.

Plus she kept the house in the north west as her registered address for council tax, elections etc

So yeah she didn't need a £800k flat miles from where she works

So you think that the privatisation of the previously nationalised water companies has been a complete success? Nothing spent on infrastructure and all the profits going to shareholders who fund absolutely nothing so the consumers pay through increased bills?

You are indoctrinated to believe that capitalism is always good when there is a massive amount of evidence that this isn't the case.

And British Leyland and British Rail and British Steel and Network Rail were/are such a success story

Maybe ask your good friend about the £40,000 she evaded and still owes in taxes. Signed, a “teenager mum” who had high hopes for Angela.

Bargepole45 · 06/02/2026 16:33

This would be so insanely undemocratic if the Labour party install her as leader and PM. Nobody votes for his. She will undoubtedly push the whole party to the left which again is completely undemocratic when we know that public sentiment has actually shifted towards the right if anything.

Rayner’s actions pale in comparison to Starmer’s appointment of a major ambassador tied to a known paedophile who took money and sent information.

She has the backing of many Labour MPs, she should go for it.

I somewhat agree, however, it’s telling that not a single news story at the time raised this as an issue about appointing him. Mandelson was problematic, sure, but if we are all only now hearing about the financial issues, is it fair to suggest Starmer could have known about them?

That’s not correct. Jim Pickard from the FT raised the Epstein connection with Starmer before the appointment. Starmer dismissed the issue and told his own party members who raised concerns to shut up.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 06/02/2026 21:47

Someone start another political party and stop this corrupt, inept, greedy, lot, from all parties, from stuffing up the UK! They all fail to care for those they are meant to serve, as they are far too focused on power and their own profit.

Lllma · 06/02/2026 21:53

Unfortunately it seems corruption is King right now. When politicians broke the rules in the past and were found out they resigned. These days there seems to be no accountability. She isn’t fit to lead and should have been sacked.

I hope people tread carefully here. I don’t think another GE right now where Reform get in is what we need….a British Trump! Where have all the decent leaders gone?

MissPobjoysPonies · 06/02/2026 22:05

I think she was unfairly treated by the press, she may well have not bothered, not thought about it, thought she would get away with it - whatever - many politicians have done worse and lasted.

However much I admire her drive and success, I don’t think she is what we need right now and I don’t think calling for a GE and reform getting their greedy hands involved on the prize is a good idea.

it pains me to say that I think with the current state of world politics we need either a super sharp, no nonsense woman (AR does show her emotions on her sleeve - this is not a criticism) who will shut the current world leaders down, or a man that they won’t fuck with because our current roll of male leaders around the world are unpleasant and egotistical.

Looking around the room on all sides I don’t hold out much hope.

If say to AR, hold back, come on strong at the next break point not right now, the chalice is poisoned so pass it on.

Arraminta · 06/02/2026 22:09

Oh dear God, please no!

The woman is inarticulate, doesn't have a single academic qualification to her name and was promoted purely to assuage the hard Left unionists.

(If you're reading by putting your finger under each word no doubt Angela, then assuage means 'to appease').

Katypp · 06/02/2026 22:15

YesSirICanNameChange · 06/02/2026 09:23

I think people deliberately have very short term memories about the scandal after scandal we put up with from the Tories on back handed deals and slimy actions, but lose their minds over this because - one can only assume - AR is left wing, female, was a teenage mum and is therefore the right sort of person to target for this behaviour that wouldn't even have made the news if she was just another Tory "playing the game".

People need to read outside of the Daily Mail.

No it's because after years of carping from the other side of the house about Tory Sleaze and winning the election promising to clean up politics, they have been exposed as just as bad and hypocrites into the bargain.
Nothing to do with being a woman, Northern or working class but everything to do with being a hypocrite.
Can you honestly say you would be absolutely fine with Boris Johnson appointing someone with Mandelson's background who ended up leaking Government information to a paedophile?
If you would be, fine. If not, you're a hypocrite too.

The trouble is that Rayner is to the left of the labour party. She has come through the union movement and is indoctrinated with that capitalism is bad mentally and distain to anyone who thinks differently... remember her Tory Scum comment. Then she buys an expensive house that she didn't really need and fails to get proper tax advice.

So we could end up with a pm who is too stupid to get proper advice, hated by the opposition who won't work with her, be completely anti any from of capitalism so increasing the tax burden, I believe she's in favour of nationalisation and we know how well that worked last time.

I mean capitalism isn’t proving very fucking effective for anyone other than the rich elite right now is it?!

BernardButlersBra · 06/02/2026 22:23

Followed by Wes Streeting and Ed fucking milliband.

Actually, yes that's true. I suspect that when Starmer walks into a room it immediately feels emptier.
