So had a review with UC today phone call she stated she would up date the journal with what I need to provide.
A full length photo of myself standing outside my front door with the key in the lock!?
Then a letter from the children's school & nursery saying they attend there
A letter from the children's gp
Passport photos
Child benefit award letter
Birth certificates (they have had birth certificates before )

This isn't a new claim either I dont understand why gp letters are needed they want one for me and my partner too.

Also on the phone call asked who I use for my gas and electricity
Ive never been asked these things before seems strange to ask?
Anyone else had a review lately what did they ask for.

Partner works full time if that matters.

I'm on UC and have never been asked anything like this (also work, with DP who works). Is this written as a message in your journal?!

Sally20099 · 06/02/2026 18:04

With the amount of tax some of us pay to cover UC and PIP I’m encouraged at this post OP. Anything to prevent fraud. The money you receive is not from “the state” - it’s money out of the pockets of others mums on this forum an beyond. Please remember that.

ByRedBee · 06/02/2026 18:08

I had a review recently wouldn’t accept my ID they eventually did a month later I got a phone call for a hour questioning a lot of transactions on my statements that were totally normal

Hockorydickerydock · 06/02/2026 18:08

I swear some of these work coaches/ decision makers are taken the piss

Beggars can’t be choosers OP.

As others say, it’d be easy to get around with AI but I guess they’re at least trying to reduce benefit fraud.

Beggers can't be choosers? Have you any idea how offensive that is? So people claiming benefits are begging? The op has said her partner works, what do you call employers who don't pay a living wage?

Onbdy · 06/02/2026 18:23

ForWittyTealOP · 06/02/2026 17:23

I have, I've seen quite a few. And one thing they seem to have in common is that they're aimed at people who don't have traditionally UK surnames. But of course the DWP would never profile like that, right?

Yes of course that’s what happening! 🙄

That’s got to be annoying for schools and doctors. Also how long would it even take to get a child benefit letter. You only get one when you apply. Would be over 9 years out of date now and wrong address.

You get an entitlement letter via your government gateway app

Those telephone reviews are wild. And before anyone tells me not to claim if I fly like them, that's not what I'm saying. But honestly.

I had one a couple of years ago. First thing they did was ask me to confirm that my landlord was Mr J Bloggs and that my rent was £x per calendar month.
Next question was "so on Aug 1st you sent a payment of £x to Mr J Bloggs. Can you tell me what that was for please?"

You are giving that poster exactly the reaction he wanted when he used that language.

It’s also money out of OP’s DH's pocket as he works full time. It could also be from the tax and NI contributions OP has made if she has worked, or is working. Please remember that. If there are wages coming into the household that aren’t enough to make ends meet and necessitate top ups at the tax payers expense, that’s more of a concern in my view.

Rituelec · 06/02/2026 18:42

We didnt have to do any of that

DotAndCarryOne2 · 06/02/2026 18:45

Crochetandtea · 06/02/2026 16:27

You’re absolutely correct. Thats a huge saving for the taxpayer if we stopped housing benefit.
People should pay their own rent and the market will settle to affordable levels as landlords will only be able to charge what people can afford to pay from their own wages.

Which won’t be much until we do the same thing to greedy employers expecting the tax payer to supplement their wage bills via UC.

It sounds like someone has reported you for benefit fraud? Are you getting disability element for disabled children? Maybe that’s why they are asking for gp records

That's daft and emotive. There are other ways of raising revenue than income tax. And one day you might be a net contributor, the next your life blows up. Nne of us should be feeling ever so humble like that. It's not how life works.

My partner is the children's dad so its not that im not sure why they want it all. I dont mind providing things but so annoying when its things that are not easy to get like gp letters and letters from the school and nursery.

GP is likely to want paying for a letter, but I guess you could submit a screenshot from your NHS app.

Jane143 · 06/02/2026 19:02

Could someone have maliciously reported you for benefits fraud?? It just sounds excessive

Marzipanandpuffpaste · 06/02/2026 19:03

ChristmasTime2023 · 05/02/2026 18:36

I have no idea how I get one I dont remember even having one but my eldest is 14 so if you only get one once I probably wouldn't have it now

You should get a letter in February/March each year showing how much the increase will be in April.

TheLovelinessOfDemons · 06/02/2026 19:04

It's a random fraud check, they stopped my claim for months then I got a back payment of £2500

Mickey540 · 06/02/2026 19:10

@ChristmasTime2023 my friend works in fraud for universal credit they have to check you live where you say because she investigates people and does street view to check the house they ask all sorts of questions like your nearest shops etc, it’s to catch fraidsters😬

LilyBunch25 · 06/02/2026 19:13

IncessantNameChanger · 06/02/2026 16:36

I don't think it was enough of a pay out. Looks like they want to see two months clear of zero wage. Which is fun when you need to pay the rent.

Thats not usually how it works- your friend should speak to a benefits adviser, CA or other local advice service. I deal with the surplus earnings rule a lot in my job, zero earnings is not a requirement for the claim to go into payment.

You dont need a diagnosis for disibility benefits
