No one wants Thames Water-a literal shit show.

I am actually NOT Nancy Mitford. Or am I???

TakeTheCuntingQuichePatricia · 01/02/2026 18:19

Mummyof2andthatsenough · 01/02/2026 18:11

I remember your post! About the office worker who was upset you took your own quiche right? What ended up happening?😂

It wasn't my post. I have no idea. I love quiche though.

Shitmonger · 01/02/2026 18:20

I cannot believe that no one has included Jack Mehoff in these discussions.

AngelpoiseLabel · 01/02/2026 18:20

Theeyeballsinthesky · 01/02/2026 18:01

Yep! There's been a plague of AI generated threads started to which the "OP" never returns

Absolutely, usually controversial topics that get everyone frothing.

I have started checking the OP’s posts before I engage. If they don’t engage more than a first post, I’m certainly not going to waste my time.

Boiledbeetle · 01/02/2026 18:20

All I'm going to say is:

I AM a beetle.

Mumsnet to be sold
PassTheHanky · 01/02/2026 18:21

I only found Mumsnet last year and really love the Feminism board because none of my family or friends want to hear about GC subjects.

Where will I go to hear all the GC info, like the blow by blow court cases and the really useful interpretations of what the issues really are.

Definitely need to Pass me a Hanky

PrincessScarlett · 01/02/2026 17:44

How do they know how old everyone is? From the threads I am on the age limit is not 45.

Literally a limit? I had no idea.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 01/02/2026 18:22

Would be good if the changes included some decent moderation and less blatantly made up attention seeking threads. And the laugh emoji back.

Also I would like an alpaca. For Christmas preferably but will also accept Easter, Birthday or Pancake day because Santa always seems to be a tight fucker where I'm concerned.

MidnightPatrol · 01/02/2026 18:23

Well fair enough - what’s the point of owning something like this if not to make some money from what you’ve built.

I think as a user id be wondering ‘how might they try to monetise their audience to keep growing’ - which is yes how might your data be used / the site start trying to get you to subscribe etc

Appalonia · 01/02/2026 18:23

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 01/02/2026 18:17

I’m here mostly to confirm that I am not Sir Samuel, nor have I ever been a blackboard monitor sufficient enough for it to be titular.

I’ll miss MN if it changes. There are not many spaces for middle aged women to feel they can talk in and be listened to.

Gransnet? I'm assuming that wouldn't be bought, unless it's part of a package deal?

lazybone1 · 01/02/2026 18:23

How do they know how old everyone is? From the threads I am on the age limit is not 45.

25-45 is more exciting and can grow with the brand. 60 not so much but I think the average user is 55 plus as i’ve said numerous times.

AngelpoiseLabel · 01/02/2026 18:24

Chenecinquantecinq · 01/02/2026 18:04

That old valuation trick eh 😂I will now get banned as I have mentioned this previously and been given a warning. Don't really care it is so obvious!

Oh!
I have started writing on the thread words to the effect of ‘don’t bother, poster hasn’t returned after the first post’ … I will be in trouble too.

(not the posters ever seem to read back!).

outerspacepotato · 01/02/2026 18:24

I neither confirm nor deny being a potato from space.

MO0N · 01/02/2026 18:25

Monty34 · 01/02/2026 17:25

If American, the interest may well be significantly political. Socials like this are sought after for the ability to influence and change or seek to change views.
Making money might be an element. But fundamentally, the personal data, the views expressed, that info is what is wanted.

I agree with this.

Tableforjoan · 01/02/2026 18:26

outerspacepotato · 01/02/2026 18:24

I neither confirm nor deny being a potato from space.

I would like to place an order for one potato please 🥔

Gransnet? I'm assuming that wouldn't be bought, unless it's part of a package deal?

Looking at teenage DS I’m a few years off the gransnet demographic, but they are more likely my people than not 😉. Although I’d assume the were part of the same package sadly.

Appalonia · 01/02/2026 18:23

Gransnet? I'm assuming that wouldn't be bought, unless it's part of a package deal?

I am way past what is supposedly the MN age demographic, but no way am I prepared to self-exile to Gulag Gransnet!

Coffeeandbooks88 · 01/02/2026 18:30

Any message boards I have been on that have had a change of ownership have tended to go to shit fairly soon after.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 01/02/2026 18:30

Mikehunt2018 · 01/02/2026 17:39

If it goes Stateside, I can imagine that will happen here.

They'll pull the plug at the first suggestion that a woman in an abusive relationship doesn't have to return to her husband because she's found out that she's pregnant following his most recent rape of her.

The AI will also be trawling through the pages in search of identifiable information regarding all women's fertility/if they might have been pregnant and aren't any more - and whether there is a possibility that she might be of interest to ICE and can be triangulated for that purpose, obviously.

Private Equity is usually the kiss of death to a company. Shops being bought by private Equity companies end up shutting a year or two later because they're not making a profit (because PE have hiked their prices up).

Shops are normally a land grab.

Lots of times the money is in the older shops which own inner city lots in prime development locations

ilovesooty · 01/02/2026 18:32

Chenecinquantecinq · 01/02/2026 17:50

Good hopefully the next lot won't be such woke communists!

Oh dear.

AnAlpacaForChristmasPleaseSanta · 01/02/2026 18:32

All of the forms I used to go on have either evaporated or have tumbleweed going through them. Handbag, Digital Spy (except the Strictly board) and some that I can't even remember.

MyThreeWords · 01/02/2026 18:34

Yuck at the international aspirations. The whole flipping internet is American and I'm already pissed off by the American presence in what has been a more localised, British, site. (Nothing against Americans, but surely there is value in localism and difference, rather than a homogenised global internet.)

And clearly private equity aren't interested in it as a talk forum. They are interested in it as a data mining and advertising resource. That's clearly what it has always been, as a business, but it's only going to get worse as a result of the ownership change. It has already been shocking to see how nakedly MN monetised the slackness in regulation of advertising prescription medications (WLI). We'll have to stop pretending that it is less exploitative than other parts of the advertising industry.

I’m back on my own terms though - I don’t pay and don’t see any ads!

Edited

Same here. I don't know how I managed it, tbh, but I see no ads even though i ticked the "Oh alright show the flipping ads if it means so much to you" button.
