Yuck at the international aspirations. The whole flipping internet is American and I'm already pissed off by the American presence in what has been a more localised, British, site. (Nothing against Americans, but surely there is value in localism and difference, rather than a homogenised global internet.)
And clearly private equity aren't interested in it as a talk forum. They are interested in it as a data mining and advertising resource. That's clearly what it has always been, as a business, but it's only going to get worse as a result of the ownership change. It has already been shocking to see how nakedly MN monetised the slackness in regulation of advertising prescription medications (WLI). We'll have to stop pretending that it is less exploitative than other parts of the advertising industry.
