To not get the visceral levels of hatred people have for Keir Starmer

1000 replies

LastChristmasigaveyousomesocks · 29/01/2026 19:58

I’m not suggesting he’s the greatest prime minister ever. I’m not even suggesting he’s good at all. But some people really, really passionately hate him.

He is a bit insipid and doesn’t have much charisma but overall he seems like a decent enough bloke who perhaps lacks the political skill and acumen he needs. He’s out of his depth basically.

But that’s not a reason to actually despise someone is it?

When did we get to a point where we can’t just disagree without painting the other person as the devil incarnate?

Not only the hatred from right wing media but just ignoring any good stuff. I am not a Labour voter but this is worth a look. So far, I like the workers' rights and the increased protection for renters.

This is what Keir Starmer has done for you so far

Which have lead to increased youth unemployment and the coming decimation of the rental sector.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 30/01/2026 08:31

BIossomtoes · 30/01/2026 08:29

It doesn’t but then you’ve repeatedly shown quite clearly that you subscribe to ridiculous conspiracy theories and wouldn’t credit Starmer if he single handedly achieved global peace, delivered a booming economy and handed every voter a gold ingot. I think we can safely discount your posts and the loads of absolute bollocks you’re defending.

Go on. Go through the list and provide cogent rebuttal for each point. Otherwise why bother replying?

Pineneedlesincarpet · 30/01/2026 08:26

I suspected that may have been your reply.

I think your list still stands for the moment, @Sparron

To your edited point. Did you ask a meaningful question that required a response? If so please specify. Or were they just rhetorical to add to your wild comments.

Edited

It was a genuine question. But you have answered it indirectly now in any case. It's clear what you're here for, so there is little point in serious posters engaging.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 30/01/2026 08:23

The most unpopular PM of all time. Most people can see something is not quite right with him.

Man of the people Sir Keir thinks a person can actually change sex. Deranged thinking. We have a PM who thinks some women have a penis. He might as well try and convince us that 2+2=63. We have this person in charge of the UK. If that doesn’t scare the beejesus out of you I don’t know what would. What other incoherent things does he think?

If you would be kind enough to repeat which question you would like a reply to that would be a start. Because you asked a few but none seemed to require a substantive answer.

I’m not going to waste my time doing that. Or indeed in engaging with you any further. It’s the absolute epitome of pointlessness.

5128gap · 30/01/2026 08:35

In many cases, its simply pique because they didn't want a Labour government. And because they can't articulate why the government is worse than the last one, or why Reform is a preferable to them, emotion replaces objectivity. They are the toddlers screeching 'I hate you mummy' because they didnt want to leave soft play.

The problem is that you can't. None of you can. And that's the trouble the country faces; that those points are all true.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 30/01/2026 08:36

Many of the comments on this thread are unreal.

Starmer’s a quiet, solid, serious man is he? He led a party that made no promises before it took power? He’s improving the nation?

Jeez, all I see is a grabby loser who’s terrified of his own shadow. He’s craven in the face of his backbenches. He’s so limp. He makes John Major look like a dashing cavalier. Plus he’s the most casuistic PM of the last 50 years.

He and his party made all sorts of promises in opposition, like smashing the gangs, all their economic policies being fully costed, and how more teachers and police would be recruited. All of them have been broken.

The hypocrisy of the government Starmer leads just adds to the contempt people feel about him. (A good example is Labour spitting outrage at the Tories supposedly considering cuts to WFA, then immediately cutting it themselves, then running scared and backtracking. What a hypocritical shambles.)

Some of what’s said about Starmer and Labour is untrue, sure. But if you spend five years lying about the last government, suck it up when it happens to you.

We understand that you want people to engage in a debate, because you believe that repeating your lies over and over will be enough to sow seeds of doubt in some people reading the thread. Even when you aren't able to provide a shred of evidence to back up what you're saying.

We don't have to play that game.

If you really want to know what is true and what isn't, then perhaps you could learn how to do some independent research and how to interrogate information sources more intelligently.

I havent repeated any points. Reread my posts. I just wanted you to say on what basis you disagree with them. Which you can't seem to do for some reason.

You are repeatedly implying that the points stated by the previous poster are valid.

I've already explained why I'm not interested in getting into a debate about them.

Fair enough. You obviously didnt want to know the answer to whatever mysterious question you say you asked me. Probably because it was a silly question? And you have now made the answer up in your head to boot.

This is mumsnet where a lot of posters are on six figure salaries and have DC in private education.

Our labour MP is brilliant and is really involved in the local community. She grew up here, went to school here and understands the local issues and is addressing them. She very much engages with her constituents, unlike our previous, Tory, incumbent.

ETA that I note that you didn't answer my question, so I will draw my own conclusions from that.

I dislike him and have zero respect for him because he has no conviction and will destroy the country to save his political skin.

the ever increasing cost of employing people has destroyed the job market, particularly for young people. It will only get worse with the union appeasing employment rights act.

his total failure to grip welfare spending

he had to be forced into an public inquiry into grooming gangs and it still hasn’t happened

completely failed to get a grip on immigration

He has totalitarian instincts - when asked about the statement “only women have a cervix” he said it wasn’t right and was something “that shouldn’t be said”. Also obviously his government’s complete refusal to accept the EHRC guidance on the Supreme Court decision - total misogyny.

now I look at the list, perhaps I do hate him!

I think everyone was so fed up and were expecting miracles overnight. Which is never going to happen regardless of who is in charge.

This. Coupled with Labour not being great at shouting about the good things they’ve done, and lots of loud voices telling the public Labour have caused our current ills and that they’re not an inevitable effect of the previous 14 years

iloveecats · 30/01/2026 08:45

Fascinating. None of the Starmer lovers (…) can actually rebut the issues listed by PP. On the basis they can’t be bothered, it seems. Closing debate down. That’s the tactic of people who can’t respond with anything reasonable. It’s what the gender wang looney tunes do when they’re asked to demonstrate how biological sex can be changed. They can’t answer so shut people down. It’s what the Labour lovers are doing on this thread. As I said, fascinating.

Well, of course, people can draw whatever conclusions they like.

Hopefully, some will engage their brains before doing so.

I have already explained why I'm not willing to engage in a debate about deliberate disinformation. I'm not going to be goaded into changing that stance.
