To not get the visceral levels of hatred people have for Keir Starmer

I’m not suggesting he’s the greatest prime minister ever. I’m not even suggesting he’s good at all. But some people really, really passionately hate him.

He is a bit insipid and doesn’t have much charisma but overall he seems like a decent enough bloke who perhaps lacks the political skill and acumen he needs. He’s out of his depth basically.

But that’s not a reason to actually despise someone is it?

When did we get to a point where we can’t just disagree without painting the other person as the devil incarnate?

I wish it were true about the Telegraph, but sadly no..
What were your views on if past views should impact everyone's position as PM? Or does that only apply to KS?

Which media do you look to / read etc?

OonaStubbs · 30/01/2026 17:32

Labour needs to prioritise hard-working British people. Not non-working people, and not immigrants.

TessSaysYes · 30/01/2026 17:37

He seems to have found some balls vis à vis Trump in the last week or so...to his credit 😄

Thats probably going to backfire too, knowing Keir Starmer's luck.

I think the main thing (that no parties will do) is leave echr, scrap hra and just don't allow them in. The US does this now and just refused to hear claims. We need to step up and protect the border and just not let them in.

What would happen to the boats (or rather the people in them) that would come here but be blocked from landing ?

Even with publicity, many people would still get in the boats, not believing we wouldn't let them land.

Would it be fair on the people charged with stopping them to watch men women and children drown (Yes some are women and children)

You keep banging on about on-line services and wind energy..... i asked specifically about public services....

If you want to be taken seriously, why are you coming out with the somewhat misogynist remark "Rachel from Accounts" what are you trying to achieve with this?
Just makes you look childish.

What happens usually when someone is trying to break in somewhere? If we can't stop them we don't have effective borders. Which we clearly don't and that is the current problem we face.

What did Australia do to solve this problem? Offshore processing. Its a shame Labour cancelled Rwanda without a replacement solution and without seeing if the deterrent worked. Virtue signalling was more pressing in July 2024 I suppose.

Been done to death but again, Rwanda had the means to accept 300 people in the first year.
It was never going to work and according to Jenrick, the cabinet at the time agreed this too....
271 migrants have been sent back to France under Labours scheme in a few months, it hasn't stopped arrivals.

Australia had a ready made Island nearby and a host country will to lock them up in camps, Nauru and PNG are very heavily reliant on Australia economically.

If you can come up with a similar Island nation, willing to take back migrants in the '000s, i'm all ears, as would be Starmer, it would seal the 2029 election for him.

BUT i agree we don't have effective borders, the question really is, are you prepared to murder people to stop them coming here?

What happens to them is not our priority. I'd suggest once they land, refusing asylum application and just sending them back to their home country. They cannot stay here. They do not benefit us one bit.

Rwanda was already acting as a deterrent as migrants were aiming for Ireland instead. Shame.

Deport to where? Most countries will not accept them back, the countries are war zones with no means to fly in or require payment eg Afghanistan - do you want to give money to the Taliban who killed 457 uk soldiers, i dont.

I dont really know that Alexandra. Patterns were clearly changing. There just wasnt enough time unfortunately before the election. Its a "what if"...

No foreign aid to countries that wont accept their own failed asylum seekers.

WalkingOnMarshmallows77 · 30/01/2026 18:07

I think Starmer is the best thing that ever happened to the UK. People who dislike him just don’t understand the law, nor how politics work. Change takes time and we couldn’t have a better person in the front seat.

bozzabollix · 30/01/2026 18:07

In comparison to what’s come immediately before he’s great. But the right wing press have demonised him so much and what do people do? Unquestioningly follow.

It did move people there voluntarily which is the cost free way to do it.

Labour are doing that, 2 countries accepted, Angola did not.

I don't think many countries want back people who have left and it also means sending back kids and women to regimes like Iran, Afghanistan etc

WalkingOnMarshmallows77 · 30/01/2026 18:13

@Pineneedlesincarpethaha I’m just a very ordinary citizen - just because I support Starmer surely doesn’t have to mean I’m either of those? Seems to be a trend on here that if you support someone you’re somehow their wife or even themselves in disguise 🥸

So they dont get our cash then. Good. Thats some small silver lining.

We aren't responsible for the lives of all the women of the world who live in bad countries. We just aren't. However sympathetic we are.

Unless you re a Kemi fan, in which case its all perfectly normal.

My cousin, used to be a Tory party member, really rates Starmer, way above KB or NF who she says is a timeshare salesman... she is a former Barrister, so that might be it?

Well you were just being a bit fan girl there which aroused my suspicions. Apologies if you genuinely feel that about KS. You are a rare breed and we should cherish you.

Well yes, as i asked up thread "Are we prepared to murder?"

Which is what you may well be doing by sending back people to Sudan, Afghan, Iran.... sending someone to their probable death is no different from punting then back out to sea at Dover.... they might make it back to france... might not...
