To ask you to help me find the perfect travel coffee cup?

(Shamelessly here for traffic)

i’m looking for a travel coffee cup with quite specific criteria… please help!

no handle
Dishwasher safe
Actually keeps coffee hot
totally leakproof
Fits a regular sort of size latte from a coffee shop – not too massive
Here’s the tricky one – I want the mouthpiece to be covered so that I can check it in my bag without it getting all dirty and germy where I then put my mouth

any ideas please? I ordered a Contigo but it’s just arrived and I hadn’t realised that the clippy bit isn’t actually where you put your mouth and that part is actually exposed!

Ion8 are the only water bottles/travel mugs that absolutely do not leak.

I’ve just treated myself to the Stanley aero light 480ml one (I think that’s the right size) I always fill it with boiling water for a few minutes and then empty just before I add my coffee and keeps my drink piping hot for a few hours

I had the Stanley aero light one but sold it as I struggled with drinking out of it. I had to tilt my head right back to get a mouthful of coffee.

BamberGirl · 30/01/2026 21:51

@isitmytimeill second the aero light!
I’ve been on a quest for years for the perfect coffee cup and this is it!
I cycle to work and this withstands being bumped along in my basket, no spillage at all and keeps coffee hot for hours if unopened.

germs in bag…not really a concern scientifically so not sure what exactly you mean here?

I have the other Stanley mug - Cafe to Go.

Screw top double lid so mouthpiece completely covered and totally leak proof. I have the smaller 0.23 l one which is quite small but also handy when I don’t want to lug a big bag around. I’ll probably get the larger one too at some point.

really easy to drink out of. If you remove both layers of the lid it’s an open beaker, should you want that.

it does take two hands to open it, it’s not a flip top. But it’s really easy to open.

I use it all the time. Feels like it will last a life time.

Doh!! The Stanley aero light has arrived but the flippy cover bit only covers part of the bit you put your mouth on… not the side/front bit!

it’s very pretty though and close so might keep it…

Bog standard thermos.

Practically indestructible and meets all your requirements.

I want to find one that doesn’t taste weird. I feel like I’ve tried loads and they all taste weird and plasticky and I can’t get past it.

ThisIsAGlobalPlayerOriginalPodcast · 02/02/2026 22:43

like I can’t drink tea from a travel mug it’s like the milk and the plastic make a really weird smell/taste
