Wtf, techbros, the hover technology surely exists now

It would have to be in the form of a humanoid robot so it could move ornaments etc.

No I reckon it could be like a dragonfly with arms?

If you get an air purifier with a hepa filter it reduces the build up of dust, it might tide you over until you get your dragonfly dusting robot 😁

GallonHat · 29/01/2026 13:07

I'm thinking some kind of gadget to reverse polarity in your house so that dust doesn't settle in the first place but just flies out the window.

Yeah, come on, geeks! Do something useful for once instead of wasting your time on sexy robots.

Oh this is a good idea!

Is there a risk this would turn the occupants inside out or sthg though?

I understand the sentiment. I'm still sore that I still don't have a Rosey robot from the Jetsons to keep house for me.

So you would have a robot fluttering about your house ? What if it decided you were dusty it would be carnage !

InMySpareTime · 29/01/2026 13:12

I imagine it like a microfibre mop under a drone, like floaty jellyfish catching dust and pulling the microfibre tentacles into a central dust-catchy wiper section so it keeps the ability to dust effectively.
Possibly with a couple of antennae to dust horizontally too, able to pull in like shrimp antennae.
somebody make this please.
I may have overthought this already.

DollopOfFun · 29/01/2026 13:12

I will pay many English pounds when a stairs robovac becomes available. Apparently prototypes are there now.

I can attest to this.

I bought one knowing this but also hoping that it would reduce existing dust but unfortunately it didn't

That's true but it's a risk I'm willing to take.

Brave 😀

DeanStockwell · 29/01/2026 13:40

There is talk about building robot bees to collect pollen so surely they can be adapted to collet dust too.
But I would not like the ones I in the show I listened to a few days ago . . . .
Hang on a minute I will try to find it . .

DeanStockwell · 29/01/2026 13:47

Phooy I can't find it , but it's on bbc sounds somewhere.

I also want a robot vac for the stairs, something like a slinky but that can suck at both ends

Redpeach · 29/01/2026 13:49

Or hire a cleaner?

We can’t have a slinky robot vac because men are gross. The words “can suck at both ends” 🤢

That sounds excellent and highly workable, though my first thought on reading your OP was a humming bird design -- which might have more precision and a much greater storage capacity.

MyThreeWords · 29/01/2026 14:00

Oh, and a gecko design for dealing with ceiling cobwebs, cos they have those suctiony feet that can walk upside down.

Sahara123 · 29/01/2026 14:02

Off at a slight tangent here but today I had an email recommending robot window cleaners, does anyone have any idea if these are any good because I would absolutely love one !

I hoovered (hand held)my ceiling cobwebs im tiny so my duster doesn't reach, the bin from the hoover fell out on my face, i just thought what has my life become! I would welcome duster gecko

Agreed. Worst job there is! I can’t imagine how it’d work though.
I’m thinking maybe the stairs will have to be like an escalator and there is some sort of cleaning going on while they're out of sight? Or maybe houses will have lifts instead of stairs in the future and the normal robot will let himself in and out a couple of times a day!

I think some sort of air cleaning device is probably the answer to dust, eliminate it at source!

Nabannas · 29/01/2026 14:07

I’m imagining a big spider-y sort of thing climbing the walls and I’d rather live with the dust thanks.

FartyAnimal · 29/01/2026 14:08

I bloody hate dust. Particularly bathroom dust!
