To think judging political views is like racism

I’ve noticed when someone states their pootical views it becomes oh I bet they vote for X Y or Z and they prejudice them on that. When often they’re wrong?

Maybe you are drawing artificial boundaries around what you think does and doesn’t constitute a political view? Pretty much everything from potholes to primary school homework is political tbh. It always bemuses me when people say they don’t care about politics. It’s like saying you don’t care about any of the things that make up your daily life, or the world outside.

Good god, this is possibly one of the thickest things I’ve read on here.

How can you possibly compare one’s opinion - which they can change at any time they wish - to racism, which is rooted in immutable characteristics, historical oppression, and entrenched systems of power?

Racism isn’t “someone made an assumption about me and I didn’t like it.” It’s centuries of structural disadvantage, discrimination enforced by institutions, and real-world consequences for people who never got a choice in the matter.

If having your political stance judged feels remotely comparable to racism, that doesn’t mean you’ve uncovered some brave new insight — it means you fundamentally don’t understand what racism is. And maybe you should learn that before trying to redefine it on the internet.

Thrre are some very dismissive replies that don't recognise that political beliefs are hugely intertwined with the culture we have grown up in, and form an important part of identity. We aren't blank slates who just inform ourselves perfectly.

I actually think political views have become unhealthily tied to identity and being part of the right group of late, in a way that's unhelpful for both social cohesion and actually fixing the many problems we face. Dismissing an idea because the wrong person has put it forward isn't good, but it's the sort of thing we do. And assuming that someone who thinks X will necessarily feel Y. Sometimes those things are associated, but we shouldn't write people off.

This is such a nonsensical point.

Politics itself is judging people based on their choices and predicted choices.

And obviously someone's political beliefs are a reflection of their character and principles. It's complete and utter stupidity to think it even equates to judging someone based on the colour of their skin.

I think it’s far to say that a person’s political views tend to align with the party that they vote for. That wouldn’t bean unreasonable assumption to make.

Do you work for GB news? Are you employed in a union Jack factory? Are you a Reform/Tory MP?

Your political views literally reflect your values, thing you choose to have. Its nothing like racism.
