To think judging political views is like racism

I’ve noticed when someone states their pootical views it becomes oh I bet they vote for X Y or Z and they prejudice them on that. When often they’re wrong?

It’s like a form of racism because they’re judging based on politic views?

Philosophical beliefs are covered under the equality act. Political views are not because they are changeable and would probably create clashes with other protected characteristics. How do you protect reform voters and also protect people from racism in one act?

Of course you can judge (by which I mean, form an opinion which may well be negative) people based on the views they hold. The views someone has is basically the best thing to judge them on.

ETA - I don’t mean refuse to hire them or anything. Just a personal judgement of them.

I'll reiterate my point. Political views are opinions which are subject to, and reflective of, a person's intelligence, character curiosity, kindness, willingness to learn, ability to listen etc. They are not immutable. For example a person who becomes more interested in the world, reads a book on the history of anything, spends time with people who are different from themselves, etc might very well change their political views.

If a person remained stuck with a carbon copy of the political views handed down to them from their parents I would judge their lack of thought, curiosity, etc and potentially also their political views. Since if you're going to hold opinions on politics (and we all should) you should understand the implications of your views and be able to explain why you hold them.

But what I am saying is that when on a thread

someone will say ‘ OH you must be a shch and shch voter’ when I am NOT

so thAt is prejudging like raisin?

If someone tells me they're voting for Reform, I do judge them as being racist and a bit thick. I am not sorry.

Is your hobby hanging flags? Because that seems like a very odd assumption.

Sorry, I'd judge someone even more harshly for getting to voting age and espousing opinions that are not actually their own, but those of their family.

If you can't form your own opinions and do your own research, I judge you as, at best, a bit of a pillock.

I don't have a guess at who someone votes for, but if you tell me, yes I will form opinions based on that information.

You seem to be conflating two different things OP. Judging someone for their political views is not the same as pre-judging someone for what you assume their political views are. Though I suspect in most cases, a comment like “bet you vote Reform” is precipitated by some sort of racist or bigoted remark.

I think I'm going to need more context for your scenario. Are you talking about a racist poster being told they must vote for reform for example? Can you give an example of a thread where this happened?

The thing is, some hobbies can point to a person's character and can be indicative of their political leanings - hunting, for example.

I do see what you're saying but the crucial distinction is that with racism, a person could look at another individual, not hear them speak a word, not know a thing about them yet still have prejudices against them based purely on what they see.

When someone is being judgemental due to political orientation, they do at least have some knowledge of what that person's opinions and attitudes may be because we all chose certain parties for a reason. They may not be accurate and being unfairly judgemental but they are forming an opinion based on some degree of knowledge about that person. It is not comparable to racism.
