I like a March 1st start, I'm useless in winter, need the spring to get me going on new starts!

Daytimenighttime · 28/01/2026 20:58

That sounds like a great idea OP.
January has been pretty rubbish so far.

Wildbushlady · 28/01/2026 21:01

Absolutely.

Feels like I've been unwell since Christmas Eve. Flu, then a chest infection, then a diagnosis of asthma and steroids!

All the resolutions wen't out of the window.

MissyB1 · 28/01/2026 21:01

I’ve had a really stressful January, had to work really long hours whilst having some work done on the house. House should be more or less finished by next week, and I will have a lot more free time. So yes it starts in February for me!

raspberrieswithchocolate · 28/01/2026 21:04

I was just thinking about half an hour ago that it's nearly the 1st of February and I've made a complete hash of my new year's resolutions so far, so I was planning to start afresh on Sunday.

namechangeformeeee · 28/01/2026 21:04

Yes me please! I’ve made a complete hash of all resolutions so need to start again

Agree with everyone, Sunday it is

sorry you’ve been ill this whole time 💐 - I feel like this is a hard January for some reason, the air just feels thick almost 😒

Yes, horrible January - steroids, antibiotics, two lots of blood tests and a chest x-ray. It's been a crap start to the year. Oh and black eye from getting hit in the face by a recycling bin that blew down the road in the high winds on Monday. So feel like a gremlin and now also look like a gremlin. Luckily I am cat sitting tomorrow in a really gorgeous house so will get lots of floofy cuddles and can float around the kitchen pretending that it's mine so that's something! Sending 'Fantastic February' vibes to everyone. Also it had better be fantastic, it's my bloody birthday!!!

ParkingNightmares · 28/01/2026 21:18

Yep, it's my birthday and a big number :-)

Knackeredmommy · 28/01/2026 21:21

My new year always starts on the 1st of March, January is not the month to start anything, it’s cold, dark and wet. Im still in hibernation mode.

Duckishness · 28/01/2026 21:24

Way too much pressure to start the NY on 1st Jan.

1st Feb much more civilised, you gotta ease into it.

I agree with this.

SkyrAddict · 28/01/2026 22:08

Oh I like this. 01 Feb it is.

I had a shitty Q4 last year and vowed it wouldn’t flow into 2026. Well so far it’s stayed mega stressful!

I might have to wait till 01 March as my Feb is looking like a shit fest.

Branleuse · 28/01/2026 22:20

I think Chinese new year is a better time for it.

Teenagerantruns · 28/01/2026 22:25

Yep. We literally had this conversation today. Dry January and healthy eating got lost. We will try again next month, at least its a short month

DramaAlpaca · 28/01/2026 22:33

I like the idea of a 1st February New Year. January is a month that I endure rather than enjoy, so I'm in! I'll do Dry February to start with, I think.

I'm in Ireland and here 1st February is generally considered to be the first day of Spring, so it feels like a good time for a new start.

LollyWillow · 28/01/2026 22:38

My New Year starts on the first Monday in March, or thereabouts. Until the calendars changed in 1752 New Year's Day was celebrated on Lady Day, 25th March. For me, around the equinox is the best time for change. I can stick to resolutions made in Spring and Autumn but January resolutions are a complete waste of time.

BethBynnag86 · 28/01/2026 22:51

Oh absolutely.January has been totally and utterly rubbish, what with various family illnesses, expensive things breaking, arrangements messed around and cancelled, losing about 50% of my hearing for two weeks- and so little sunshine!

Snowdrops in the garden today though,so a sign of hope ...

purpleflowersfordays · 28/01/2026 23:05

I never make an effort to start anything in the new year, it’s depressing enough as it is, but then I tend to go with the flow anyway with these kinds of things.

I have made some changes already this year but not in resolutions kind of way, more in the it just kind of made sense to do it now.

i think the best time to start is when it suits you instead of tying yourself to a date.

WildFlowerBees · 28/01/2026 23:11

I’m still wintering, I like to go with the seasons. I have never understood why New Year’s resolutions exist, in the depths of winter with dark mornings and early nights people pledge to be better versions of themselves. Do it when it’s warmer when it feels like the right time not because the calendar dictates it. Jan 1st is just another day like any other just a different digit at the end of the year.

mumofoneAloneandwell · 28/01/2026 23:14

IVe gained so much weight so I have to start in Feb but I completely understand waiting until the spring
