Oh I like this. 01 Feb it is.

I had a shitty Q4 last year and vowed it wouldn’t flow into 2026. Well so far it’s stayed mega stressful!

I might have to wait till 01 March as my Feb is looking like a shit fest.

Just whenever you can girl, let this be the last of the unhappiness and stress for us

There’s no point doing New Year’s resolutions on Jan 1st when the house is still full of nice food and drink.

BreakingBroken · 29/01/2026 02:20

For several years now I’ve embraced Lunar New Year as my “New Year” start date.
I find Christmas exhausting.

I have found my tribe ! Amen to a deferred NY - and like pp's, I feel I am in hibernation mode.
@WildFlowerBees @purpleflowersfordays yes ! resonates with my inner sense of the seasons. We cannot impose on them. It's almost as if I have winter in my bones even tho' I am not living it.
@DramaAlpaca I'm in !
It's funny (or co-inky dink ?) today I got an Amazon delivery of a heaping amount of fake daffodils - there are many amazing flowers here, absolutely blooming startling and gorgeous, but nothing like a tender daff. So they are dotted all about and make me smile.
@BethBynnag86 you have had a rotten time of it, thank goodness for snowdrops cheering you 💐

oo how old will you turn? 🥰

The big 60 :-) Had a rough year last year so i'm hoping things will start to turn a corner this year.

SliceofTosst · 29/01/2026 20:00

I am. We had so much chocolate and party food in the freezer we knew we had to eat it now or we'd never be able to just have a bit.

Also a lot of house admin so not really feeling up for it. Also both a bit under the weather.

Chinese New Year will probably be the start (after celebrating with Chinese food!😂)

I like the idea of a 1st February New Year. January is a month that I endure rather than enjoy, so I'm in! I'll do Dry February to start with, I think.

I'm in Ireland and here 1st February is generally considered to be the first day of Spring, so it feels like a good time for a new start.

I was about to say this. Imbolc and St Brigid’s Day feel like special markers for women, plus as you say, since Spring iz sprung on Feb 1, you feel like green shoots are the general vibe.
(Every year at this time, without fail, I automatically turn away from wintery scents, anything ambery, and yearn for fresh rose, and green notes like lily of the valley, orange blossom, herbs and so on. It’s a flipping nuisance!)

ThePieceHall · 31/01/2026 19:58

It’s my younger daughter’s birthday on February 3rd so we have held over a chocolate advent calendar for her to start on 1.2.26, plus a cookie advent calendar that I bought for 70 per cent off in the John Lewis sale. I’m opening my M&S beauty advent calendar that has been put away since before Christmas. Our January has been challenging so we need all the treats we can get. OP, you can decide that your personal new year is starting on Candlemas, which I believe is February 2.

DramaAlpaca · 31/01/2026 20:52

@Millytante I'm with you on the fresher, greener fragrances for spring. It feels like the perfect time to bring out my Versace Versense, Prada Iris and my all time favourite freshie Chanel No. 19.

Oh, and I think I'll finally take down the last of the Christmas fairy lights this weekend. I've enjoyed them this January.

fivetriangulartrees · 31/01/2026 20:59

I used to have resolutions that started on the first day of the year that the temperature reached 18 degrees. That always feels like an optimistic day and had the advantage of taking you by surprise. Sometimes it wasn't until mid-April though.

Now I want to start sooner, so I go for the first day of the year that the sun is up by 7am, which this year appears to be 22nd February. Everything feels better in daylight. So I have another three weeks of wallowing and then - happy new year!

👀👀 thank you for these recommendations

I was planning to pop to Selfridges on payday as I just need to smell ‘fresh’ and sexy

I think it should be 25 March again

mumofoneAloneandwell · 28/01/2026 22:04

omg @Arlanymor !!

sorry you’ve been ill - hit by a flying bin though girl, omg - at least it’ll be a funny story once the eye goes down 💐🥰

housesitting with a big kitchen and a cat sounds lovely - wanna share how old you’ll be?

Sorry I missed this when you posted it! Thanks for the sympathy, people have been really nice as I have't even attempted to disguise it and it's been a bit of a conversation starter in shops and the like! I keep saying that I need to invent a more exotic story than 'binface'!

I will be 47 years young! Only 25 days to go now that we're officially into the first day of the month. Happy February!

Good morning everyone, happy St Bridget's day and Happy New Year!
Here's to a fresh start, hope everyone is successful in achieving their goals.
It's a beautiful, very sunny day where I am, there's definitely a Spring feel in the air. What a lovely day to begin anew 🙂
