Victoria Beckham used to be so different

I like her and think Brooklyn’s recent posts are awful.

I was looking on YouTube today and a video came up of her over the years, mainly with the spice girls and when younger. She was so funny, so cheeky and seemed so strong & confident. She did full, proper smiles and laughs, so nice to see.
Totally different to now, is it just age and we were all probably more like that in our youth?

I feel like she seems desperate to prove herself.

She was pretty average at singing and dancing, but was ambitious and had the right look for spice girls. That didnt translate to a solo career so she moved on to fashion. It seems she skipped the hard yards where you learn to draw/design/create/sew etc, and went straight into it...but the losses and the stuff she details in the documentary, suggests she didnt have much idea about the business side either. (No shame in that, but no idea why you wouldnt pay someone who did know what they were doing....)

They've probably made enough money to live quietly and not do anything again but she seems desperate for approval, and validation that she made a success of something. Also agree despite her talking as if its behind her that she's had an eating disorder for decades , probably not helped by working in the fashion industry

Someone said they didn’t think VB had much to do with the fashion brand. Just finished a book by Alexandra Shulman, former Vogue editor. In it she said she was of the opinion that VB was a figurehead but after working with her - they sat on judging panels together for young designers and she said she was so knowledgeable about the fashion business and was all across her brand.

Yes...this review of VB's autobiography does suggest she wanted to give that impression..

Ouch. That’s quite a review. I think VB has proved Burchill wrong, her ambition has ALWAYS been a substitute for talent & that in itself, actually a rare gift.

VB’s ‘bitchiness’ will have helped her navigate some very tough situations. She’s no sap.

Interestingly it sounds like all the Spice girls had unusual drive hence the fate of the unfortunate Michelle.

Fashion clearly a passion for VB & she’s learnt a lot over time. So, is Alexandra saying VB has very good business sense re: marketing etc? Knowing her brand inside out, nous for what will sell?

VB gets a lot of stick for not learning to pattern cut etc & work practically from ground up. That’s not what she’s known & winning awards for though (?)

I think money a key driver too, for both of them. It’s a trap as with furious ambition & drive you never stop, as someone else always has more.

Did you miss the plug for Burchill's own bitchy book about the Beckhams at the end of her hatchet job?

I love Julie Burchill - and am sure she'd agree that no-one would ever commission her to write an approving review of anybody!

Yes. She’s very talented. A reviewer of her book on Bs said DB reminded her of proud working class men of childhood “paragons of generosity, industry & chastity’”.

I do wonder if VB might have been happier with her own successful dress shop? Happily married to the electrician, great kids & lording it over the local plebs as Queen of Herts (?)

IMO the ‘inauthentic relationships’ BB was talking about more likely refer to Romeo & Cruz’s girlfriends who are def useful to the brand.

I feel the examples re: DB were much more specific in the past.

That’s a strrrrreeetttch - just to cover up for the sexually incontinent slag that is DB? How on earth would these unknown GFs add to the brand - unless one of them got pregnant ahead of N PB and D&V ransacked the next generation of babies to pump up their brand?

Is it? I give you: Jackie A an accomplished poet, pianist (for 28 years), music producer, song writer & absolutely beautiful too. 30 years old, mature, cultured & intelligent…No value add here. At all…Where is it where Cruz wants to focus again?

Clearly she hasn’t a clue about the fashion business or even her own brand as claimed as she has been unable to make a £ in decades - DB was bunging her tens of millions of £ to fund her fake fantasy vanity project. Only turned a corner when they got a significant professional in recently - and that was after she tried to drain tax payers money from the furlough scheme to fund her fake fantasy vanity job.

Others, that know more than we do, clearly respect her & she’s very confident she’s earned her place at the table. It’s a notoriously tough industry to turn a profit as you’ll know NB: the tragic L’Wren Scott.

She might need to learn to cut back on the pot plants though :) but it’s a learning curve.

It's pathetic ridiculous hilarious stupid sweet that BB feels he's the arbiter of relationship authenticity. Leaving aside the maelstrom of sycophancy surrounding his entire life to date, which led him to become a photographer/bartender/chef with no thought of needing to train for these professions, he's now chosen to ditch his 'inauthentic' birth family in favour of the family of a despotic corporate raider, who sues anyone he suspects of not admiring him sufficiently.

The penny hasn’t dropped yet. Let’s hope there are no strings…

I think he sees it as the equivalent of buying himself out of the RAF. No more anxiety you see, he’s FREE.

You can like VB as much as you like but she and her husband chose to make money out of her children from the moment they were concieved. Its gross behaviour that she would treat her children as commodities.

She is now reaping what she sowed. The wedding was the tip of the iceberg.

I hope BB gets some support to manage the emotions that come up from growing in such a comercialised existance and can move on.

How did they make money out of their children?

They're not family influencers, who literally build their careers on pictures & videos of their children's daily lives. They were celebs who had children, so had to manage the media interest in them as best they could.

Have you seen the Beckhams posting daily shorts of their kids falling into puddles, trying on a dozen outfits, stuffing their faces at Disneyworld, etc, with little disclaimers that 'this post was sponsored by [Brand]'?

BB was born in 1999, no cameraphones, largely paper based media. They were so young & fame & £ were intoxicating & addictive. They were ambitious, there was no calculated plan afoot at that stage.

‘As best they could’

There are many, many celebrities who have managed to keep their children entirely out of the spotlight. Have you ever seen Cheryl Cole’s child, for example?
There are pap photos of David Beckham walking round a city centre holding a Tiffany bag in one hand and an almost newborn Brooklyn in another (no pram, sling etc, just holding him in one arm with his shopping bag in the other). Pictures of Victoria holding toddler Brooklyn by the hand while walking through a busy airport, when of course they could have used the VIP entrance for privacy.
They intentionally used their children to court media attention. Still do.

But there is a difference between making money out if your children and courting media attention. The media don’t pay them.

there are suggestions that photos of the family are essential for brand Beckham. Personally I think that’s exaggerated; if you read Tom bowers book he does an excellent forensic breakdown of where their money came from

Itsmetheflamingo · 30/01/2026 07:02

Meant to add back in the day yes, they directly made mine from the kids- Brooklyns baby photos were sold to ok for a fortune- they haven’t done it for decades and the revenue stream no longer exists.

Then if it wasn’t essential, why did they do it? They could have done the same as many, many other celebrities and kept their children’s faces out of the media.

They can just be attention seeking? Proud of their family?

Originally she didn’t smile much as she had backward facing top teeth. By the time she got them straightened the image of posh spice had already been formed and she played up to it. She has sacrificed her own well-being to be with this beautiful but philandering husband and her mental health is shot. I have never seen her look relaxed or healthy. She could do with a private life. God knows they have the money, it’s bizarre. Now Brooklyn is married to an uber thin ( see latest photos)woman too. The cycle continues.

Am sure she has a private life too. DB, I can’t see that he’s gorgeous. He had a pretty period in the 90s but IMO there’s nothing much else going on there…
