Post bills/house etc?
For a brilliant quality of life?

Perfect week stuff as in fun activities, no budget. Food shopping throwing everything in the trolley - lots of easy food. Being able to order Ubereats whenever you fancy ?

I didn't factor in pension contributions so maybe add another 15% ..... 253

Yikes - you save 94,000 per year?

we lived very frugally and it led me to so much stress I ahd a catastrophic breakdwon that nearly killed me and changed ours ives irrevocably.

you may drop down dead tomorrow and thee are no pockets in a shroud

I'm so sorry that happened to you. I'm luckily not burning out as I'm only working 08:00-16:30 4-5 days a week (with a little bit of admin maybe one evening a week) so it's not as Intense as some jobs, and it's only for the short-term until we buy our next house, when I'll drop down to 4 days.

That’s an average week for most…

yes - I get that!

KayMarie121 · 29/01/2026 09:03

I’d be overweight and unhealthy if I spent that much weekly. If I had such money I’d probably buy a plot of land and look after flowers and animals, and take a good few short breaks a year. Pubs and treats would not thrill me for long. The cost of living is so high that it’s about £400 per month just to feed myself & hubby and pooch.

TheIcyAquaFawn · 26/01/2026 22:50

but that’s the joy of it / unmeaningful spending. Just treats, takeaways, coggies etc

how can any activity that has no meaning bring about joy? OP sorry, you really live in cloud cuckoo land if you think that money brings you happiness. Having studied economics I agree with the law of diminishing utility, i.e. for every extra unit consumed, satisfaction will decrease.

So you find no satisfaction in anything?

No worries, I thought I was missing something 😂

Ok fun task.

500 in m&s on shopping.
120 on a box of 200 ciggies
380 on Uber eats etc

350 on clothes shopping
200 on scratch cards
100 give money to friends
300 make up or house stuff
50 savings

Why would you insult your friends by giving them money? Ciggies and scratch cards - seriously ?????????

Meadowfinch · 29/01/2026 12:46

Ordering UberEats whenever you want ....!

Your inner organs are very grateful you can't, OP. You'd end up the size of a house and poorly.

Earning that and spending it on cigarettes, 'easy' food and unlimited UberEats?

Exactly what I thought. Hilarious that the post started with stress on a ‘brilliant quality of life’.

takealettermsjones · 26/01/2026 22:37

I mean it sounds great, sign me up...

But seriously? £285 per day? I can't imagine I'd even have enough time to spend that every day.

That’s what online shopping is for 😂

Not clearest picture even when it comes through but this is in same vein, essentially once you are able to cover basic physical needs and build a bit of security people generally then need relationships and to do something meaningful to feel a sense of satisfaction. Just acquiring more and more stuff (or money) doesn’t improve most people’s lives or at least doesn’t make them any happier/more content past a certain point

Different strokes for different folks then.
When the post arrives and I’m tearing open parcels like an Alsatian on speed, it definitely feels satisfying.

I get great satisfaction that does not involve spending money probably more from activities that require some degree of effort be it mental or physical. I love being around certain family members and my cats are a great source of joy and satisfaction. Spending money cannot not fill an emotional void. Also remember a lot of high earners, spend a lot of time working to accrue that income at very stressful jobs. I guess one obvious benefit the very best therapists is affordable.

How long do you feel satisfied for before you want to buy more stuff?

A few days. But I still admire and love my previous purchases.

You must have a humungous house to keep it all in!

BambinaCucina · 29/01/2026 17:16

I think even I would struggle to spend that sort of money every week. I'd be looking for stuff to buy, and shopping has never been a hobby of mine, although my card would take a bit of a hammering in Potters cookshop 😂. With that sort of money AFTER bills, we'd be having weekends away regularly, going out for Sunday roasts. We'd be on holiday every half term. We'd have pensions/ISAs/whatever maxed out.

We'd be members of the nicest local gyms.

Basically, we'd have upgrades of a lot of the stuff we already have. Would it make me happier? Sure, I'd get a kick out of not having to cook a Sunday dinner every week. But, ultimately, I'd rather not sacrifice time with my family for more work to make it.

lilkitten · 30/01/2026 13:09

I run a business with my DP, we pay ourselves £1k a week (to cover both of us). It's ample to cover necessities and luxuries, I don't spend anywhere near that amount - 10% goes into savings, and my current account has a few £k surplus. We have 2 DC. Times have been hard in the past, and we lived on a fraction of this, but it seems like a luxurious amount to me now.
