To reckon that Reform will win the next election, and to be utterly terrified about it? 😪

i am a leftie

I think they’ll win

If don’t, they’ll have the majority in a hung parliament and govern as a minority party before joining with the Tories.

i’m going to tighten my belt re running my home and prepare for onslaught as the country becomes unrecognisable

There is a long way to go before the next election and a lot can change. Reform have not announced any policies and on areas such as the NHS, where Farage would look at a potential move to insurance, Reform are vulnerable. However, Farage is also persuasive and they do now have the infrastructure to deliver a very credible campaign. There is therefore a significant risk that they could do well. That being said, I do not think that Reform have any solutions that will leave the UK better off- just more divided and poorer in all senses.

BusyExpert · 27/01/2026 18:48

I am terrified that they won’t. I think they are our last hope. I am not sure they will succeed but they cannot be worse that the current shit show.

I'm a leftie too but I think even Reform voters will be put off reform at this rate. I think many people voted reform because they were sick or the tories, but now many tories are joining reform! I don't know who they'll vote for instead though

Possibly the new centre-right movement spear-headed by Ruth Davidson. It's very early days though. The centre must make a comeback.

BurntBroccoli · 27/01/2026 01:01

Er… yes they very much can and they are now formed with Tory rejects.

Really , Tory rejects. You mean the MPs that didn't agree with the majority Tory wets? I think the same things were said across the pond before the orange man got into power but at least they have a booming economy and feck all immigration

Reform voters who are paying attention are increasingly disgusting with them. Even the far right are saying Labour are looking a better option

dh280125 · 27/01/2026 18:51

There is no chance Starmer will lead Labour at the next election, so they might regain ground. It will be hard. I'm a lifelong Labour voter but no way would I vote for them as they are now.

I think the reason why reform will get power is the inability of people to have a sensible grown up political debate without getting offended.

the cancel culture and the blanket labelling of voters as racist or extremist won’t change their votes or engage them it just pushes them further in that parties direction

people should be able to disagree about politics and still be friends - civil.

the minute you label someone wrongly you lose credibility with them

I'm a bit tired of always being blamed for how someone else votes.

If someone wants to vote Reform, they should own it, and not do it because they are called racist by someone on Mumsnet. They should look at and support the policies because they are the most suited to them.

I don't think they will win. They have plenty of supporters but not enough spread through enough constituencies to win them all. And that's assuming an election now, who knows where Farage will be in a couple of years!

SparklyPyjamas · 27/01/2026 18:54

researchers3 · 27/01/2026 09:25

How do you not think Reform will be a disaster?

They might be but let's wait until they get into power before judging, they won't be any worse than the other to showers of shite

A lot of (quite) right wing influencers are extremely disparaging. I don't want to share particulars publicly

They are not our last hope. They've ALREADY made our lives worse through Brexit! Our growth has been anaemic (why are we not in the Customs Union and the Single Market?!), too much red tape for trade with Europe (unnecessary bullshit we needed like a hole in the head), young and dynamic immigration (thanks to Freedom of Movement) replaced by long term immigration of families with dependents in tow (nothing to do with origins here, I mean that the nature of immigration has changed thanks to Home Office bureaucracy and the new hoops to jump through)... and the small boats? Also the gift of Brexit disruption. I don't want to list the whole sorry mess but really, NF has already proven that the populist Reform/UKIP whatever you call them do not serve ordinary working people or the nation's interests. Why would anyone fall for their lies AGAIN?

I absolutely do own having voted for Reform previously, I'm not embarrassed about it. And I can sincerely say it was my experience in a uni humanities department that shook me from my mainstrain/default liberalism drove me onto other platforms where I was exposed to very compelling ideas that the left have disasterously failed to grapple with let alone offer any challenge to.

Well as long as you're not going round telling people they're fascists or racists or islamophobes for voting differently than you, I wouldn't worry about it.

bigdecisionstomake · 27/01/2026 18:58

@Playingvideogames

Banned no-fault evictions and introduced new protections for renters.

The latter part of this is just untrue. The whole point of banning no-fault evictions and making sure that landlords now have to give a reason for evicting tenants is to reduce the burden on social housing. All those people who were evicted for 'no fault' because it was so much easier and cheaper for landlords up until now often had to be housed by the council.

They will now be intentionally homeless (rent arrears, anti-social behaviour etc... and the council will be able to waive any responsibility for them. Alternative private landlords will also not take them as they will no longer be able to hide the reason they were evicted.

Anyone that thinks the Renters' Rights Act brings new protections for tenants is deluded, it will just become harder and harder for people to secure rented accommodation and homeless numbers will rocket. Increased regulatory burden brings increased costs and puts rents up. I work in this sector and the number of applicants for every property is the highest it has ever been.

My eldest DS rents and I really fear for him now. The irony is he has always voted labour (as have I).

The big problem Reform has is finding quality candidates. The have to find thousands for local elections in May as well as for the two national elections. So far, no Reform candidates have been announced for the Senedd, not sure about Scotland.

I don't think we should be complacent, though. Tactical voting might be needed in the next GE.

Quality candidates?? Hasn't stopped the other parties!

None of them could organise a piss up in a brewery, the whole system needs an overhaul, need to get rid of career politicians, leading departments they have no knowledge or expertise in.

TabathaRose · 27/01/2026 19:01

I’ve seen the repercussions in the US. I have two sons over there. How anyone could have overlooked all of Trumps stupidness and reelected him is beyond me and when I hear Farage it reminds me of that orange idiot over the pond.

FlorianTV · 27/01/2026 19:04

I’m terrified for woman’s rights, and what they’ll do to the nhs. I can’t afford a private healthcare system. The poorest will suffer.

I will be voting to get Labour out, whether that means Reform or Tory

I will too!! .. who the hell would be pleased they voted Labour in! Not exactly going well is it!

Heygal · 27/01/2026 19:10

They’ll win perhaps not with a majority so may be a hung parliament but I think this will flip politics as we know it on the head!

They can trash the economy very fast by being incompetent and corrupt. Look how much harm Liz Truss did and she was in for less than the shelf life of a lettuce.

Even if they don’t manage to succeed at ICE type stuff and destroying the NHS they will likely make us all a lot poorer.

Destroy the NHS ? The last government's have already destroyed the NHS beyond recognition and continue to do so. The N H S for most people is not fit for purpose and on its knees. So if Reform can do any better (which wouldn't be too difficult) then I say give them a chance.

whereHeroesAremade · 27/01/2026 19:14

Couldnt care less. I am EU and never purchased a British passport despite having the right to so ages ago. Let them chuck me out because I am fed up with so many things here, anyway

Well good for you. In the meantime, those who care will try and stop that shower of shite.

Talkinpeace · 27/01/2026 19:20

If Starmer was clever (which he isn't)
he would rapidly push through PR
(not in the manifesto but that has not stopped him so far)
as then EVERY vote would count
and lots of the people who do not currently vote would have a reason to do so.

It would also get rid of "protest votes" as voters would know that they would turn into seats.

Reform are strong only so long as Nige gets his way.
His trail of destroyed parties is impressive

Mrsgreen100 · 27/01/2026 19:30

Also terrified, the thought of Nigel Farage running our country is almost as bad as Donald Trump, labour of screw is conservative of screw us, please God Green) party Darne your sweaters cut your hair,
And get your shit together because you’re the only choice left, the thought of reform makes me want to immigrate anywhere, but the UK is bad enough now
