Easter

Couple sitting on the bus with an Easter egg they're giving to "our Dexter" and they have to write on the label. The husband asks his wife when to give it to him. She says she doesn't know but it's early this year she thinks it's March and "it's the one that changes every year".

AIBU to think everyone should know when it is if only for the opportunity to scoff chocolate eggs? I was obsessed with Easter immediately New Year was over!

I hope they don't get the munchies and it lasts for the next 10 weeks!

I don't know when Easter is this year.
I could look at a calendar but I know it's not going to be in the next 6 weeks or so so I am not thinking about it yet.
🤔

5 April.

Nabannas · 25/01/2026 16:09

Pancake Tuesday sneaks up on me every year, when I’ve run out of either eggs, flour or milk. Then I know when Easter is - up to then it’s too far away to think about.

ZenNudist · 25/01/2026 16:12

I've said YABU. Lots of people have their eye on easter as the next big school holiday (depends if you holiday in the Feb half term). But unless you are religious or fitting in to school holidays then you wouldn't be too alert to when easter is

She's right it moves around every year.

The bigger question is why are they are writing on gift labels on easter eggs on the bus in January.

HeadyLamarr · 25/01/2026 16:21

I only knew when we had school aged children because of the school holidays.

It can range from March 22nd to April 25th, so it's a pretty broad range. Sunday after the first full moon following the verbal equinox, I think.

But not necessarily the real full moon, the ecclesiastical full moon. Which can be different because, well, some arcane rules.

Blimey, the things people think to start a thread about 😳

And I hope 'Dexter' was a name you made up otherwise they're going to be really creeped out about the stranger on the bus, starting a public thread about them.

Not unreasonable not to know exactly when Easter is this year, but buying an Easter egg in January is unreasonable!

Bonkers1966 · 25/01/2026 17:00

Made me smile 😁. Thanks 👍

bowda · 25/01/2026 17:08

I have no idea when Easter is, I have no reason to

Pancake day always crepes up on me too…

MissyB1 · 25/01/2026 17:12

There’s no way they are saving that egg for Dexter, I bet it’s been eaten already!

I've bought selection boxes for my nieces and eaten them well before Christmas.

I have no idea when Easter is either

Dontcallmescarface · 25/01/2026 17:36

I've not got a clue when Easter is. As for it being too early to eat Easter eggs, I've just polished off 1 that DD gave me last weekend.

Pinkelefant · 25/01/2026 17:39

Good Friday is BH and then there is BH Easter Monday and I have both off as a default which gives me 4 days off so yes!I am very interested in knowing when Easter is 🙂

sweeneytoddsrazor · 25/01/2026 17:42

Never to early for Easter eggs. If you have a lot to buy for it makes sense to buy one a week although you then miss out on the 3 for £12 offers

Jk987 · 25/01/2026 17:43

No one has the dates in their head. I have to check the calendar to know.

Pineapplewaves · 25/01/2026 20:13

This year pancake day has returned to February and Mother’s Day is earlier than last year so I know that Easter is at the beginning of April but I didn’t know the date until pp said.

WildCherryBlossom · 27/01/2026 07:42

I nearly bought an Easter egg last week. I saw one that was perfect for one of my DDs, related to an interest / hobby of hers. I did stop myself as January seems way too early.

Why? If it a bit niche just buy it when you see it & put it away. It'll be made at the same time as one on the shelf (if there are any left) in a few weeks time.

you may miss out on a 'special offer' but if it's niche & perfect what's more important you??

Do you think the same way about Christmas stuff?

Yup. I might do some Christmas shopping in November but absolutely no decorations until December.

Chemenger · 27/01/2026 09:10

I have no idea when Easter is this or any other year. It has no impact at all on me now that I don’t have children in school and I’m retired. I worked in a university that had a fixed spring break and didn’t have public holidays so usually worked on Easter Monday and Good Friday. I don’t think Good Friday is a holiday in Scotland anyway (could be wrong about that).
